No. I know he won't be in but I would take him even just for experience

In all fairness though I recall someone saying that Hoddle was demonstrating the free kicks and Beckham couldn’t match him ..

To be fair to Beckham he was a far better player for England than Hoddle.

He was a better player than Hoddle full stop.

Hoddle was a fantastic player. Criminally underused in his prime

Surprised there hasn't been any inkling from the press about who is going to be in Southgate's squad. Usually 1 or 2 names

Maybe more effective for England as Hoddle was criminally underused by England managers ..

Ability-wise ... plus passing with either foot I can’t think of anyone before or after who matched Hoddle’s passing ability .

Sure but football isn’t just about passing with two feet.

Hoddle played over 50 times for England. Hoddles one of them players the longer hes retired the better people seem to think he was. Scholes is another one,

Only that the new call ups will be used again as well as the returning regulars. Therefore expecting a larger than normal squad which makes sense considering we have three games.

Na ... he should have got well over 100 caps ... I recall a couple of other international managers ( France for one ) saying that they’d have built their team AROUND Hoddle ..

Only if we can get clearance for James Rodríguez to swap from Colombia as DCL needs loads of chances :)

    Largely disappointing though imho
Mount had a good game although he messed up that easy through ball just then to seal the victory.

I'm pretty sure trent grealish etc can supply the chances

Southgate isn't stupid enough to leave grealish out. Hes playing well and there was enough of a furer last time he was omitted plus he made an impact when he came on

    3 PL games
    10 shots
    7 on target
    5 goals
    xG 3.65

    Pretty wild

This may sound harsh but I find Mount to be a low IQ footballer. I wouldn't want him in a tournament squad unless we were struggling for fit players. Same as Walker or someone like Harvey Barnes.

Hes an off-the-cuff type player. If he needs time to think hes not as effective.

Its very concerning that walker's inclusion will be based on 'because he stuck around the team hotel' Players should be picked on form and as good as walker was towards the end of last season his form over the last few weeks for club and Country has been questionable. On form lamptey should be ahead of him. If I was England manager I would be all over these young players (ie saka lamptey james) there can't be any harm in having them in the squad. It did odoi no harm in fact he took to it like a duck to water. France brought in 17 year old camavinga Spain capped fati after only a few games and he was excellent. Southgate's loyalty is his undoing sometimes. If he's not in this squad the way he's playing in sure lamptey will be in November's squad. With trent as first choice at rightback there could be no harm giving him a twenty minute run out against wales

He missed the target loads of times in those games plus one of the goals went I off the back of his head/neck and another one was completely fluffed by the keeper

According to the stats that AJ has provided, he only missed the target 3 times so it isn’t load of times is it? 10 shots and 5 goals is a very good return regardless of how they go in. As a striker you couldn’t care less if it goes in off your arse, shoulder, neck or bollocks, so basically anything else that’s legal as long as it goes in as being in the right place at the right time is what counts.
