He used the wrong foot as well the GK has to call him off as mentioned correctly by announcers. In general you do not want to hit the ball when facing your own goal but sometimes it’s necessary
The disappointing thing is that we were clearly the better team in the first half. They just came out and punched us in the face in the second, and because no one's done that to us this season, we had no answer. I think I have to say this: Greg Vanney is good. That was exactly what happened to us when we played them in the playoffs last time. We were actually the better team in the first half of the second leg, and they just came out in the second half and took over. Same as tonight. Vanney is very good at making tweaks and pushing buttons.

injuries take depth and our midfield didn’t look great defensively allowing those shots at top of box . Valenzuela & Jimenez and entire team could not stop Laryea ( however you spell it) he totally broke us down . We needed to be more tenacious and foul him sooner force him out of box instead of allowing him to make us look stupid
My German club lost points last season twice due to a play like that which went from a yellow to a red for just that kind of thing. Same player too, as I recall. Kicker's quote was their dependable "Harsh but defendable". Cost them third place and perhaps second.
I do recall one of my old coaches telling me "you're not a real defender until you've had an own goal". Sad to day that was the only offense of note for the team. However, I'm not too worried on the basis of one game. Even Bayern got beat worse over the weekend. Good teams blow it from time to time. Mind you, that was the worst I've seen from us in quite some time.
I did find her making her first big boo-boo. She said Afful was a great passer. He promptly continued to be the Afful we know and love by missing badly on two crosses (one to Zardes running behind the defender in which he hit a line-drive 5 feet tall straight to the defender in front of Zardes) and made a leading pass for Artur straight to a TFC defender.
Was this before or after Sika said that Afful is having a "career year?" Jordan has called out Afful's mistakes more than once this season, which I appreciate. But, in reality, Afful is a very weak link on an otherwise pretty damn good team.
Borderline yellow? That's as clear a yellow as I've seen in any other game except in the one this moron decided to ref. And it did give Altidore another chance. And he buried it.
I was going to say that. We actually had a very good first half but you only remember the crap we put out there in the second half. Credit to Vanney for the adjustment he made. He probably noticed that our defense was running deep to keep the two attackers (A & A) in check and the midfield pairing of Artur and Berhalter were too high so he left Altidore in that pocket of space. We only adjusted after Pozuelo repeated the feat.
Over the weekend, some of the greatest teams in the world lost. Dortmund against Augsburg 1-0. Bayern got destroyed by the plastic team from Hoffenheim by 4-1. Man City lost 5-2 against Leicester. And the biggest of all, the Crew, lost and against the Syrup Chuggers from Connecticut.
Meh. The contact wasn’t as high or as severe as Diaz (was it Diaz? I don’t remember) made it look, and it wasn’t in a dangerous enough spot on the field to land into automatic professional foul territory. If he’s not already sitting on a yellow, it probably is one. But regardless of what the Laws say, you don’t typically get a first half red card for that. If Pedro Santos had gotten sent off for being in that exact same situation, I’d be furious that he got a second yellow and not a verbal warning.
Elbow to the face is not a yellow? I've seen red cards given for a slight push to the face. I've seen this card given hundreds of time. The difference between yellow and red is the only question.
What got me was the kicking the ball away after the call.... I'll be interested if that gets a second look from the league (not expecting one, though). As I noted it cost my German team major points this season when the red was given in a similar circumstance. Still, it's different leagues (the German refs association had recommended a crackdown on dissent after the winter break, and our guy was the first one caught).
I saw it go right into the neck area, maybe even grazed the chin. That's all considered part of the head and should have been carded.
I just dont get what Cadden did that made everybody over there get all hot in the shorts for him. He's comparatively slow, does not consistently make good decisions and has some trouble accurately passing the ball. I know he's very young but he's not going to grow into a totally different guy
Well, going back to the game, for what it's worth. First of all, the field and the ref were equally bad for both teams. I have never seen so many people on both sides slip so much. And the ref let some hacking go on both sides and then called stupid stuff on the other. The missed takedown on Afful early and letting Altidore play the second half was bad. Room (7) - probably the best player out there. Nothing to do on the first two goals, nutmegged from, what, three yards out for the last one. No fault on the scoreline. Mensah and Williams (4) - didn't mark the top of the box on either chance and had trouble playing out of pressure in the second half. Afful (5) - very good in the first half but should have done a better job on closing down Altidore for the first goal. Jimenez (4) and Valenzuela (3) - the weakest links in the second half. TFC's MOTM had a field day with both of them in the second half once TFC decided to switch the attack to the right side. Artur (5) and Berhalter (4) - caught too far upfield and TFC took advantage not once, but twice for easy shots from 20 yards out. Santos (5) - a couple of good crosses early including the one that was converted by Own Goal, disappeared for most of the second half. Too much dribbling against pressure in the second half. Diaz (6) - probably the most intimidating guy on offense which resulted in Piatti, their defense and Altidore knocking him down a few times. Zelayaran (5) - sweet shot just over the bar but had no answers the few times we got the ball to him in the second half. Got himself a frustration yellow card late in the game. Zardes (6) - did his usual defending, running into space, and had a good chance early that forced a great save. Some say he should have headed it first time but the ball was lofted over to him and had no pace so he did the right thing in putting it on his foot. Mohktar (6) - an improvement over Santos in the last few minutes of the game. Created a good chance to a cutting Zelayaran and should have had a corner as well. Cadden (4), Etienne (4) and Morris (3) - were they even on the field? Porter (5) - no answer to the tactical adjustment from Vanney in the second half. Oh how we needed Nagbe in this one.
Toronto clearly was the better team in the second half. We really need Nagbe when we play a good team .he Crew looked tired and slow to me. Very slow to react and slow to think.
