Didn’t see all the game as had other chores to do but from what I did see, Sterling was poor and had a game to forget. Also I’m guessing it’s Foden you’re referring to? I wish Pep would stop playing him out wide, he’s a midfielder and that’s where you are going to get the best out of him, not out wide imo.
As well as callum Wilson has started at Newcastle I wouldn’t want him ahead of players like dcl Abraham Greenwood
He may well be but he said he’ll only return if England have an injury crisis and really need him. With Kane, DCL, Ings, Abraham and maybe Bamford available it seems unlikely that we could call him.
Saka offers versatility and pace/technique he’s shown to be a good passer as well as dribbler and quick
There could be a lot of new faces in this squad. The sides that were involved in the European last eight games have really struggled at the start of this season. Only 13 wins out of 33 matches across Europe. There are some serious fitness issues for some teams and players, even PSG have lost two their first two games! There could be a lot of withdrawals and injuries. With the crazy schedule over the next year or two England really should pick a big squad and seriously rotate for these three games. Southgate would be well advised to pick players that have had the best pre-seasons and are in form like DCL, Grealish, Lamptey etc
Love to see all those guy in as well as maddison but we know southgate is very conservative at times in squad selection and we would be more likely to see an out of form kyle walker than lamptey for example. Love to see more young blood brought through but unfortunately I can't see it
I would have thought we would have heard a bit more information about when the squad is named? It’s been very quiet with regard to the upcoming Internationals.
Yeah, I know that but usually you see a few articles knocking about usually the press speculating about who might get called up etc. Not heard a peep about anything much really.
Is Lamptey really in the frame? Even excluding Walker, I would have thought TAA, Trippier, James, AWB are ahead of him, and there's Walker-Peters playing well also. It's a pretty tough position to break through at.
I would say as good as trippier and walker have been its time to look to the future. Who knows whether walker and trippier will retire after the euros then we are left with trent awb james and lamptey. I would take lamptey and James ahead of awb. Do I think james or lamptey will be in the next squad? No. Also I just want to stick it to the Ghanaians who are mouthing off that he is 'Ghanaian' and he will play for them. Arrogant sods.
I don't see AWB as anywhere near the squad. Southgate doesn't fancy him and he's been well of the ball since restart. We're not going to learn anything with Trippier in the squad either. James has been very good at the start of the season though. And you were doing so well for about a day there.
I think you sometimes have a tendency to overstate the case for the younger players always looking to the future (which for some of them may never come) whereas Trippier is in his prime, playing for a top team in La Liga and has been excellent for England. That might change in the next couple of years, but for now he should be nailed on for the squad.
