I’m just picking your post at random as representative of others in this thread, but why do so many posters keep labeling discussions of race or racism as political in nature? I mean I understand there is a nexus, but that nexus seems to be present with nearly everything. To me, the issue of racism is a moral, rather than political issue.

As for the poster he was referring to, I’ll just say there are inferences that I drew from that person’s posts.

Probably you are right, then he should go to morals forum.

Guy goes to OF "calm discussion of how will sectarianism affect him?"
Guy goes to TJ/Mex/CA/Sinaloa "calm discussion of how will narco-terror affect him?"
Guy goes to Israel/Turkey "not-so-calm discussion how will Syria/Palestinian/Lebanese/Israel/Israeli arab tensions affect him?"
Guy goes to Juvi "Don't talk about racism, it makes me uncomfortable!!!!!"

I missed the article where Mckennie has been subject to racism in his short stay..

please link it, as that would be relevant.

    Thanks in advance.

    This is total BS.

Did you come on the Edu to Rangers thread or the Reyna to Rangers thread or the Boca to Rangers or Beasley to Ranger thread and when someone posted "Hey, I wonder if the sectarian (or, to be honest with Edu and Bease also racism) will affect our guy?" and throw a hissy fit because "it hadn't happened yet?"

Or did you come on the Rubin threads when he went to TJ and then Dorados and folks mentioned the narco violence and require a quote to an article where Rubin was affect by narco-violence?

It's a completely arbitrary line. 'We can't talk about how snow in Munich might affect Wood coming from Irvine until it actually snows on one of his games!" is something no one ever wrote on BS.

I'm sorry it makes you uncomfortable. I'm sorry you can't leave it alone. But racism at Juvi and in Italian football is a verified fact. It may be less. I may be gone completely. Wes many never experience it.

But it is an observed fact, like sectarian violence, narco-terror, Kurdish/Turkish strife, snow in Munich. It's simply arbitrary that one of those things can't be discussed because it makes some folks inexplicably uncomfortable.

Both sides seem a little touchy here folks:

This is a soccer forum, let’s talk about one of our best current yanks playing alongside a freaking legend and hanging tough in his first game! Great job Weston!

This same legend in the making (I am an optimist) is also black and playing in a country that can be on the overt racist side of things. This is relevant and not only part of the sports aspect but likely a great opportunity to practice empathy and putting yourself in someone’s shoes, or boots in this case.

    As Freís would say:

Pro Tip - block the persons that may offend you or not stay on your idea of topic and/or do not comment. This will free up space for better discussion than back and forth between folks that are not going to change their viewpoints.

    Go Weston!

OT, but I think Adams is the captain of the future for the US. I think his brain and communication ability are off the charts and he has the chops on the field as well. I think Tyler will be positioned a little deeper than Wes, and that will help him control the field more, making him a better captain. However, it’s all just speculation. I’m starting to forget what national Team games are anyway. We are going so long without the US playing.

not if CP cannot stay healthy.

It is kind of important for our captain to reliably be healthy and on the pitch.

I would rather have Weston anyways ...

Good morning--if indeed it is morning where you are--folks.

I've used the logic "when there's news about it, it belongs in the thread" on certain topics before. The discussion of racism is more complicated, however. The idea that it comes and goes and there should be places protected from having to talk about it is unrealistic. It's everywhere and as such we should be able to address it competently. (My first thought when I saw where Weston was going was to the frequency with which we see news of Italian club supporters engaging in racist harassment of Black players and to wonder whether that had been among the things he considered when making the choice. And I guess--have no doubt, alas--that if he did he consulted his own personal history of racist experiences to determine that he could manage it.)

Anyway. I don't think the questions raised in this thread about racism are remotely illegitimate, but perhaps for the moment we can consider them asked and answered?

So... Juve play Roma tomorrow. Any word on whether Wes will be on the field for a big game?

Of the 3, Weston seems to get his injuries from really throwing his body around and sometimes giving perhaps too much. That's part of his game I'm hoping he'll refine -- not put yourself in spots where you're likely to come out injured. His last (?) injury with Schalke comes to mind where he kind jumped/dove into a guy for a header, got bumped midair and landed awkwardly.
Tyler is showing perhaps he's fully recovered and I think his hip injury, while major, was his first major injury? Time will tell for him.
CP on the other hand...I think he gets injured making his morning coffee. I think he gets injured getting out of bed. I think he gets injured helping an old lady cross a street. He has a lot of work to do, perhaps in vain, to prevent future injuries.
