Oh yeah. I remember the parents could move because of tech but didn't know it was Google. I'm just curious if they'd want to move back. Spending all of that time in Europe just to eventually come back to square 1.

I just don't rate him at all. Don't think he will even be a good MLS player. I'm more than happy to be wrong-- especially if it happens in San Jose.

She only recently went to Google (thank you, LinkedIn). She was at SAP a long time. He's 18 now, so he's legit to stay in Europe as long as he can get a work permit.

  3. Wouldnot know why he can't.

This kid has had an incredible journey even though he's yet to turn pro. Madrid, Ajax. The next logical step of course would be the Colorado Rapids.

According to transfermarkt, he'll be out of contract July 1. I know nothing.

My uniformed guess is that he lacks the requisite physical ability to play professionally.

He always seemed supremely gifted technically. Like, Sergino Dest level technical ability, maybe even superior a few years ago around U16 age. In recent years around U19 age he looked like a very very skilful player but not a serious prospect.

Sometimes there's a false idea put out there that certain baseline physical attributes (speed, strength, power) aren't needed to make it as a pro as long as you can compensate with superior skill and soccer IQ but it's not true.

The jump in an athleticism from youth amateur to pro is a beast that eats sporting souls and if a talented player is struggling in that area, going down the division ladder usually isn't a solution

edit: So I'm getting caught up on this thread particularly the last year and I had no idea he had made the jump to Jong Ajax last fall? Watching some of the video clips that were posted and he looks fast. He looks quick. Against grown men.

Anybody have his contact? I would like to get in touch. :ROFLMAO:

I have seen many of these types of players, top of their class from U10 thru U15, then the game got too fast/physical and they ended leaving the game because they couldn't bare being just an average player.

Not gonna lie, I wish I'd made it to Jong Ajax before somebody told me I wasn't gonna be more than an average player!

Its the expectation of the player and even their families, at first they blame the coach, then the players then reality hits and they have to come to the realization they are not as good as they thought they were. At the pro level, they may come back to MLS after bouncing at the 2rd division or lower. Nowadays MLS is paying enough for players to continue to chase the dream.

He played for Jong Ajax in situations where they had no one due to youth NT, YCL, CL, Ajax 1 match, etc.

He's a really good dribbler and.... nothing else. I wouldn't really call him gifted technically.

I absolutely would. His dribbling and dexterity with the ball are excellent. He's a very skilled player even if one dimensional.

Would really like to know what happened with him. One thing to be let go by Ajax, another to seemingly vanish from the footy world. Wasn't too long ago he was being featured in an Ajax video. His skills on the ball seemed sublime. There something else at work here, I suspect. Hope things work out for him. From that video, seemed like a nice kid...

Could be completely irrelevant but I remember his mom being a C-suite level business woman for a large silicon valley company.

He might just want to do something else.

Maybe....but he made a huge investment into soccer. He has a skill set he should be able to parlay into...something...The pro game didn't seem by any means out of the question

Maybe they could make a virtual reality scenario where you thought you made it to be a football star, when you didn't in reality. Perception is virtual reality.

That's true but the jump to the pro game is a beast, particularly the jump to the lower levels of the pro game, and it's not all that glamorous for 9/10 young players.

Also, he's not a guy who uprooted and moved abroad to play for Real Madrid or Ajax, he left the Bay Area because his parents were working for international firms.

Obviously we're just speculating, but there is a reason why he's not with a team.

Oh I agree-- his dribbling was out of this world. But I wouldn't call him technical because he showed zero ability to pass or shoot.

I bet it's a combination of things. Maybe he's burned out. Maybe no big clubs have much interest. Maybe he loves Amsterdam and his friends there and doesn't want to travel again for soccer.

Circumstantial evidence points to him getting accepted at Real Madrid before they decided to move to Spain. I think that's what triggered the move to Ajax in 2015. RM was under investigation for other underage players from outside the EU and his mom could find her new job internally *before* making the move.
