It could have been as simple as improperly stretching before making a run as fast as you possibly can to put ball in net now! I do agree though we will see in hopefully a few weeks as opposed to months.
Pulisic should have passed the ball at the moment he felt the tear in his hamstring and gone to ground. By continuing towards goal at near full speed he undoubtedly caused more harm to himself. Not smart.
Sure. But way easier to say than to do. Chelsea was fighting to stay in UCL position. Chelsea had a shot at the FA Cup. Chelsea was clearly better with Pulisic on the field than not. Not sure what I would have done differently from what Lampard did. AND that is making a huge assumption that had Pulisic been rested more that this injury wouldn't have occurred. We simply do not know if that's the case or not.
The issue is more that an unusual number of players under Lampard have picked up muscle injuries - he's going to have to work on that. He appears to favor a LOT of running in training, which worked for him as a player, but likely won't work for a lot of his current players. That's the issue, not just "rest". What works for Mason Mount and Willian is clearly not going to work for Pulisic and Kante. As far as rotation, bringing in Ziyech, Werner and potentially Havertz solves that. Given the tight schedule for the coming season, the assumption from some posters that he wouldn't start was moot - there will be so many games, players will get injured, etc. Also, bear in mind, Ziyech is already 27; he's not the "future". Pulisic will play plenty, there are now other options, though.
Maybe he didn't need to shoot (the strength of it was more like a pass though, which you wanted him to do), but you don't just stop on a dime when your hamstring goes out. You can see he's limping. He took two steps when it went out and then "shot." Have you ever seen someone pull a hamstring? There's usually a couple of limp steps before the stop/ walk or fall. The only extra thing he did was kick the ball.
And the mind was dealing with goal #2 and it immediately switched over to 'oh crap that sucks and hurts like crap'. So the remnants of 'goal #2' were still there.
New managers/coaches tend to over exert their players. When you are insecure about your ability to do your job, making sure your players are in shape is the easiest way to feel like you are mitigating your lack of knowledge and/or experience in tactics and in-game situations. But the injuries eventually pile up and you end up worse off than if you had Clint Mathis as strength and conditioning coach.
This one is for the ladies. You're welcome. Most patriotic tattoo of any USMNTer ever? Downtime. 😎📸 @TammyAbraham pic.twitter.com/m7muT13yAC— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) August 10, 2020
I've had to suffer through pages and pages of posters blaming Lampard for every crime imaginable for not having played CP 90' every game and now we will have to suffer thru pages of blaming Lampard for having played Pulisic too much.
Thanks for recognizing my M.D. degree. How did you know? I was a Pediatric Neurologist, not an Orthopedist, but know something about a lot in Medicine. Anyhow, we need Pulisic very badly and I hope he makes a speedy recovery to be in top form when qualifiers roll around.
I did tear a hamstring once and fell like I'd been shot. but... I did it launching a goal kick... as keeper. damndest thing ever.
I tore my (planted) calf punting as a keeper. Same sensation. Heard a pop and though it was my Achillese, but when I found I could put weight on it, knew it wasn't thankfully. Much to the point of recent posts here: it had felt tight in the moments leading up to the kick, but as a player I convinced myself it was just a little knock and I could shake it with a few steps. Nope.
I thought I'd look up young MLS home- grown players wearing 22. Chicago - Mauricio Pineda Colorado - Sebastian Anderson Dallas - Ema Twumasi DC United - Griffin Yow Philadelphia - Brenden Aaronson Salt Lake - Aaron Herrera Cade Cowell at San Jose wears 44 as Tommy Thompson already wears 22.
Yes, that's true, but it's still early. He's so quick that most can't touch him. This will play out over years.
