So no peer reviewed papers then, just a bunch of youtubers? Think I'll give them a miss, thanks anyway. I've got Death in Paradise lined up on the TV for some more genuinely open minded investigative entertainment.

I don't see any way herd immunity would be reached before a vaccine is found, especially if they're saying a vaccine is set to be out by years end. Herd immunity would take years. I can say being in the US there are very very few places here that would impose another lock down, no matter how bad the spread got.

The piece doesn't talk about total herd immunity, just that we could get to a stage where if growing immunity goes along with behavioural precautions like social distancing etc and stomping on local outbreaks, it would be possible to pretty well open up normal life without deaths and intense medical intervention. Mask wearing and social distancing has already brought down the average viral load of people who are unlucky enough to get infected, so few cases now are reaching hospital. That's what I think they mean anyway, I'm no scientist.

okay, if these conclusions are right, then in Sweden there should be MASSIVE 2nd wave coming, right? Just watch and enjoy being played.

All I can say is be happy with your washed out brain and grip that confirmation bias in stead of learning and opening your eyes up. I am done in this topic.

That's an optimistic article, but not an argument to stop easy precautions like social distancing, wearing face masks when appropriate and frequent handwashing to reduce the death toll of a virus that has killed nearly a million people and counting.

P.S. It's a bit of journalism, not scientific investigation, and the author has some previous in making judgements on stuff he's not qualified to talk about, which has made him very popular amongst the more gullible in the anti-vaxxer community.

BTW UEFA Supercup got sold out only by Emails (no open sale) for 20 000 fans. And right now in Hungary there are 1000 cases per day (10 million population)...

Hungary have pretty well sealed their borders apart from this, my mate had to postpone his wedding to his Hungarian fiance because he and the guests wouldn't be allowed in. The rules are a bit strict even for this, here's what came with my invitation to apply for a ticket.

My main concern (as of now and could change when it gets closer depending on the virus) for the Euros is not necessarily me being able to get into a match, but being able to move between countries. I have tickets for Budapest, Amsterdam, Dublin, London, and Copenhagen while hoping to buy one for Bucharest as well, if they ever go back on sale, and could see getting in and out of countries being a major issue. I know the UK (I haven't looked into any other country at this point) has a two week quarantine for people from certain countries, which would basically ruin me from going to London, at minimum. Also, if I have to get a negative test to move to another country, that could get expensive and/or be a hassle. I mean, I get why those things would have to happen, but I wonder how UEFA would react if that is still the case in spring 2021.

It's not a huge concern in September for me, but it is giving me pause on doing the same amount of planning and purchasing as I did in 2019 at this stage.

I will say though that I think it is a semi-good sign that they are allowing that many supporters in at this point. Granted, I say that in terms of the Euros, but it may not be good for virus spread. I guess we will see about that.

Holy sh*%! I'd defintely try to resell my tickets if similar measures are put in place for the Euros.

Why write one sentence when you can present chart that takes-up an entire page? The title says "deaths" and the legend at the bottom says "mentions". What is this chart showing?

I was at the supercup yesterday.

The E-Ticket system is just perfect. Really safe and there were not any tauts at all near the stadium.

They checked body temperature at the entry which was, again, flawless. They social distancing was facilitated by the following: You could not even open the seats which were not in use so there was no possibility of sitting closer to each other. It was 4 empty seats between and then 2 occupied seats next to each other.

It seems like a really plausible approach for the Euros as well.

Its a plausible approach if the Euros were held in one country. UEFA should seriously consider giving up on having this tournament being played in a dozen countries spread out over thousands of miles. Its just not the time for that. There are obvious risks but perhaps more importantly the benefits are minuscule if only ~10k people can attend anyway.

I am not sure why is it better to hold it in one country? If local people can attand anyway (i highly doubt it though) at least more part pf EU can experience the tournament.

If its about more people across the EU experiencing the Euros then simply save this 12 host country idea for a future Euro (either 2028 or arrange a swap with Germany for 2024). Then really more people across the EU will experience the tournament because you'll be able to fill big stadiums to their capacity.

Why is it better to have it in 1 country? Simply look at the list of things fans travelling to Budapest had to do to attend the super cup. No big deal if I am travelling to, say, Germany to attend 3 or 4 matches. It becomes a pretty big hassle though if I am hopping across 3-4 countries to attend one match in each of them and have to arrange for multiple COVID tests in foreign countries.

While I personally love the twelve country concept because it will allow me to see some countries I have not been and may not have gone right away, I tend to agree that they should figure out a way to pivot to a one or two country setup for 2021. I think if they don't, they'll even lose more money than expected because they won't fill matches at whatever capacity they decide for ones that do not involve host countries or aren't big matches. Some matches may be downright embarrassing for attendance unless they paper the hell out of the stadium to get local fans in there.

I do wonder if that is something UEFA is thinking about and willing to do or if it is too far down the line for them to change it. The issue may also be that their options may be limited in terms of who can host. I can't imagine they would want to go back to France because of 2016 and they won't want to go Germany because of 2024. They may also not want to go to the UK for the whole tournament because of the Women's Euro going there in 2022. So, they could basically be tied down to Spain/Portugal and Italy in terms of countries that can host it right away. Spain is one of the worst countries currently with the virus too.

If they don't want to pivot, maybe they will just go with the tactic of trying to convince the governments to let ticket holders in. Especially if the virus is receding in like March/April 2021. Who knows? I find the whole thing kinda fascinating on how they will handle it and what their contingency plans are because you know they will do everything in their power to have them happen next summer.

I guess UEFA could also set up places to get tests while in the countries to help facilitate movement and safety. Not that they would pay for tests, mind you, but make it easy for you to get tested. Of course, they would then have to handle the issue of people not being able to use their tickets because they were positive for the virus.

Makes sense. But they still need to follow the restrictions that apply in the individual countries, so we can expect empty stadiums in many countries for a while yet (England, Spain, etc.).

That's just another reason to hold Euro 2021 in 1 (or at most 2) country. Pick a country that is doing quite well in keeping COVID under control and has looser restrictions on mass gatherings.

I wonder what deadline has UEFA fixed to decide on number of fans allowed in the stadiums (30%, 50% or 100%...)
For organisation and logistics, it should be decided on the 1st of March as the latest. Honestly, will we have a clear idea about vaccins efficiency and virus evolutiin by then ? Not too sure
