2020 was also a stroke of luck the like of which had never been seen before. How many games were won or drawn in added time? That's not something that can ever be reliably duplicated.
As well as 2010, Chris Wondolowski's breakout season and one where the team was literally one game away from that season's MLS Cup final. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Yes, but I’m 2010 we finished sixth of eight teams in the Western Conference, so other than an improbable playoff run, it wasn’t really a banner year...
The thing with 2010 is that we went on a pretty decent run at the end of the season. We got Geo right at the end of the season, and Edmundo (not that Edmundo) got healthy enough to actually play. So we actually looked good. And Convey wasn’t yet completely in the doghouse, just partly there. And we got knocked out narrowly by the eventual Cup Winners — The Colorado Rapids! Colorado had a pretty good season that year. Like us, they finished on 1.53 PPG, which is respectable. This season, we suck and they are ... mediocre. The Crapids could get much better when they stomp on us. I’m betting three or four to one in favor of Colorado. Go Quakes!! Go Quakesfans!! Fisher OUT!!! - Mark
It was also the Earthquakes' first playoff appearance in five years and its first in the post-Golden Age. Not to mention The Scarving. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Yes, but two successful seasons out of a dozen (particularly considering the minimal level of success required for making the playoffs in MLS) is pretty pathetic. We have been bottom feeders and essentially the perennial expansion team of MLS since Fisher decided to take advantage of the el cheapo bargain basement franchise fee and was able to start on a shoestring...
The only Edmundo I remember was Edmundo Zura, a complete bust who was let go after two weeks in 2011. Nobody by that name contributed to the 2010 playoff run.
No, we meant Eduardo (not that Eduardo). And he barely played but he was in fact on the team in 2010.
Oh duh! Thanks. And when we had Not That Eduardo and Geo, Frank refused to play them both at the same time. And while Not That Eduardo wasn’t great, but he at least drew opposing teams interest, creating space for Wondo and others. AND, if we were a real team, we wouldn’t have signed him in the first place. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Thanks fans, I'm trying to stockpile smiles today as an antidote against the mauling tonight. If only it worked that way.
"MATCH PREVIEW: Earthquakes head to Colorado for midweek matchup" (SJEarthquakes.com - Tuesday, 9/22/20) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
4 center backs listed out on the injury report. At least Hoesen is not on the list. Does that mean that Judson will be playing sweeper back again? Should be a huge hole in the middle of the field for Colorado to exploit.
I’m starting to feel real sorry for Beason right now. On short rest he has to play at high altitude the whole game. Poor guy is going to be like Andrew Tarbell in 2018, the whipping boy for poor performances. He’s gonna need therapy for PTSD after the season....
Poor guy may not even have a job next year. But yes... he's gonna be clowned pretty hard on this forum.
