Yes, so 5 points from 10 games even before that humiliating almost record setting loss.

The other Fisher team seems to be doing just fine almost every year on a limited budget... unfortunately the two teams couldn’t be further apart when it comes to the front offices and coaching.

And that’s in MLB, where making the playoffs (at least for now) actually means something, not like MLS where over half the teams get in...

In all my years of watching San Jose in MLS , I never remember this many blowouts in a season.

San Jose Earthquakes 2–5 Minnesota United FC

San Jose Earthquakes 1–4 Minnesota United

Los Angeles FC 5–1 San Jose Earthquakes

Sounders FC 7–1 San Jose Earthquakes

San Jose Earthquakes 1–6 Portland Timbers

30 teams and 16 make the playoffs this year. Most likely a one off. I think the plan was 10 or 12 this year originally.

That is a problem of a high pressure, tight man-marking defense. If you are tired or have not practiced much or have key injuries you are very susceptible to blow outs. The team needs more depth and probably more quality players who will buy in to the system.

If we were a real team, we wouldn’t have put up with Doyle’s ineptitude, we would have kept Geo, we’d have sacked Frank much sooner, we’d have sacked Stahre after eight to ten games, we’d have sacked Jesse long ago, or maybe simply not have signed him in the first place. We’d have signed better players starting in ‘08. Were we a real team, we would not have been such a complete cluster all these years.

But we’re a pretend team, only pretending to compete.

    Go Quakes!!
    Go Quakesfans!!
    FU Fisher!!

I’m oversimplifying, but the business of baseball isn’t exactly a direct comparison to soccer, would you agree? That is, baseball is generally a closed system, predominant the US, when contrasted with soccer?

Same as Handegg (i.e. American football). It's much easier to find players when the pool is limited (in the case of handegg to the US and baseball to the US and parts of the Caribbean and Central/South America.)

It's because this build up to blowing has finally happened. The Bash Bros and the Goonies cannot be milked to death anymore. At some point a crappy foundation will finally crack. It has. Sell the team. The Quakes do not spend to win. Then you cannot play to win. At least now the team can't be moved. This resurrection of the team has been all smoke.

No but they could contract the team if are so inept to MLS Standard, and if attendance is abysmal... we may get Chivas USA'd. However this time San Jose Earthquakes will not be coming back.

Well as its been said there's a plethora of teams who spend less then us and they regularly contend. Like Philly and Dallas.

One thing Fisher is probably loving is that there is no relegation.

This team isn't even playing at 3rd or 4th level.

    No, and no.
You are living back in MLS 1.0. There is a $100 million stadium that would need to be taken into consideration.

That was only because they pushed Vergara out for making racial statements. Also, they lined up other investors and bought him Jorge and his ex wife Angelica out. .

Exactly. Chivas USA was on its last leg with no fan base, no stadium and no enthusiasm.

Interestingly , they beat the Quakes in their last professional game...

Can you even imagine a reality where the Quakes hired a director of scouting that worked for the Qataris and brought Virgil van Dijk to Celtic... or where the Quakes director of scouting was being pursued by Manchester United... and this guy is currently in MLS with the freaking Columbus Crew not LAFC or Atlanta or NYCFC!

    Head of Scouting
Bruno Costa is the Head of Scouting for the San Jose Earthquakes. Costa joins the Quakes with extensive scouting experience, spending almost two decades in the Brazilian top flight (Série A) and with the Brazilian Football Confederation.

    CONTACT BRUNO COSTA

    Email: bcosta@sjearthquakes.com

During his time with the confederation, Costa helped scout and recruit some of the biggest names in modern soccer, including Neymar Jr. (PSG), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) and Willian (Chelsea) to the Brazilian Youth National Teams.

Costa joined the Brazilian Football Confederation, BFC, in 2001 as the team manager for the Brazilian Youth National Teams where he assisted in scouting efforts. During his time there, the Brazilian Youth National Teams won 14 trophies, including the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship (U-20) and the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship, making Brazil the first and only nation to win both tournaments in the same year. The U-17s were also the runners up in the 2005 U-17 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, Costa served as the general manager for the 2008 Beijing Olympics qualifying squad.

Following his first stint with the BFC, Costa went to Fluminense Football Club of Série A in 2007 where he remained until 2011 as the general manager of the youth academy and assistant general manager for the first team. During his time with Fluminense, the club won more than 30 trophies, including the 2007 Brazilian Cup for the first time in club history and the 2010 Brazilian National Championship. Fluminense were also the runners up in the 2008 Copa Libertadores.

Costa then spent a year as the general manager of the youth academy and assistant general manager for the first team at Figueirense Football Club, also of Série A, helping the youth squads win six trophies before he returned to the BFC in 2012.

In his second stint with the BFC, Costa served as the head scout for the Brazilian Men’s Youth National Teams and as a scout for the Men’s National Team. During this time, he worked extensively in scouting and recruiting players for the 2016 Olympic squad that went on to win Brazil’s first gold medal in the sport.

In 2015, Costa decided to return to the United States, where between 1995-2000 he attended high school and played soccer at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and later played Division I soccer at Florida International University. Costa served as the assistant general manager and head of scouting for the NASL’s Fort Lauderdale Strikers from December 2015 until joining the Quakes in April of 2017. With Costa on staff in 2016, Fort Lauderdale progressed to the Round of 8 in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time in club history, the only non-MLS team to make it to the final rounds of the tournament.

amazing! luckily he has through the end of October to scout and recruit some of the biggest names in modern soccer to the San Jose Earthquakes! If there was ever a time when we needed his expertise and some reinforcements, its now!! We're in rock-bottom desperation mode!

Gooooo Bruno Costa, a deflated, disenchanted, disgusted Bay Area soccer community eagerly awaits the benefits of your expertise!

don't mind being fact checked, all part of the learning process. and, I'm genuinely surprised we have a scouting director, if there was ever a time we needed some serious scouting and player procurement, it is right now...that part is not sarcastic. the sarcasm is based around the likelihood that we will use the impressive expertise of the guy who "helped scout and recruit some of the biggest names in modern soccer, including Neymar Jr. (PSG), Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool), Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City) and Willian (Chelsea) to the Brazilian Youth National Teams"...

...to do anything to improve our side, as we face the darkest hour in our club's history.
