If we'redoing it then FSG has the money for it and financial loans aren't being taken against the club.
We've structured payments such that there are no big outlays in the first year for Thiago and Jota - which means if we can do Sarr in a similar style (Watford have big parachute payments the first two years out of the PL) and we are giving them big money in years 3 & 4 to potentially support their existence in the Championship then this makes a lot of sense. It may mean we don't make any moves next summer, but with the depth this would build in our squad no further (big) additions would be necessary next summer.

Watford played in the Carabao Cup tonight - Sarr not in the squad.

    (Newport won 3-1)

The term hire-purchase comes to mind. See also lay-away plan.

We are effectively leasing Thiago and Jota as the payments are spread out over the length of their respective contracts. Kostas' price was covered by the sale of Lovren. Our net cash out the door this year on transfers is probably close to zero - 5mm (Thiago) + something like 4mm (Jota) - Whatever we get of the 9mm for Ki-Jana.

Timo was a release clause - payable in cash up-front. Timo's salary was going to be large and we'd be paying for his learning curve. While Thiago's salary is large his learning curve looks to be pretty small.

Liverpool are in talks with Burnley over a deal for Harry Wilson. No fee agreed yet but the Reds are looking for around £20m for the Wales international (echo)

Report: Liverpool are looking to pip Manchester City to the signature of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly
According to Le Parisien (via GFFN), Liverpool are looking to pip Manchester City to the signature of Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly and have asked his Senegalese teammate Sadio Mane to help convince him about moving to Anfield.

The 29-year-old is keen to join Man City and has agreed personal term and already reached a provisional contract agreement with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Unless Brewster and Origi are on their way out, does it make sense to get Sarr. Especially considering we picked up Jota. Adding Thiago even with all the midfielder we have makes sense because of his quality and he gives us a different dimension at midfield. Would Sarr do the same?

I don't see the need for Sarr anymore.

Even if Brewster and Origi left, still have the following who can play in the front 3 (or 4):

    Salah
    Mane
    Firmino
    Minamino
    Jota
    Shaqiri
    Jones
    OxC
    Elliot
    Keita
    Milner
    Wijnaldum

I would think give the extra minutes to Jota and see how he goes.

Can look to add another younger option over the next 12 months (and possibly take advantage of any bargains/opportunities in the market).

One of the stories is that Liverpool had targeted Jota and failing that, Sarr. Sarr was seen as a very acceptable second choice. But it was supposedly, Jota or Sarr, not both.

The article writer basically should have written something like “I’ve clearly got no idea about Liverpool’s recruitment strategy the last 5 years, nor do I understands statistics, or mentality. On that basis - I believe Liverpool paid too much.”

Last season he was their most 11th most played player in the Wolves squad and their 2nd top scorer, the season before their 10th most played player and their 2nd top scorer.

We spent on a player who is 23 (younger than Adama), a consistent scorer in the Premier League and one who can play on both wings, and through the middle, will not be used in next year's AFC and was actually available.

We may have overspent, but not by much and Wolves fans are rewriting history to say he was their 4th or 5th choice.

I'm not saying you won't be good for us I'm just saying the peaceful choice on the wolves we seem to be paying a premium. Part of that maybe that the term schools are giving us allow us to basically by him now the pay for him later when hopefully finances will be better

we definitely did pay a touch more - but the original deal was mooted at 35m + add ons.

we paid 41m plus add ons....but effectively something like 4.5m for a loan for this year and then 37m obligation to buy next season.

with the fans being kept out of the season until what looks like 2021 - I think we did it right.

Brewster update from the Echo ...

In the meantime, a big update on Rhian Brewster's future courtesy of Yorkshire Live.
They claim Sheffield United have been told they can have Rhian Brewster, but the Blades are understood to be stalling.

United have submitted an offer for a season-long loan, however, Liverpool are not keen on that and, instead, have instructed the Bramall Lane hierarchy to make a permanent bid.

thinking of Origi's goal last night - an excellent strike - and the stories that he and Brewster are on the way out.

they seem to have something in common -- both are excellent chance-takers, but are not chance-makers. it may well be that Klopp wants both qualities in his strikers, and that's what he gets from Mane, Bobby, Mo, Mini and now Jota.

other teams will not be so fussy and will jump at the chance to sign such excellent strikers.

There were also reports that Wolves would have accepted an offer of 30-35 million. Liverpool were willing to pay more in order for Wolves to structure the deal the way they did. We owe them very little up front and will pay the fee over the length of the contract. This suited Liverpool’s current financial situation perfectly.

Origi got an assist last night, Jota didn't and they both got the same amount of assists in the league last season. I realize I'm cherry picking stats here to make a point, I realize on the whole Jota does create more chances but that has been largely because of his role for Wolves vs Origi's more direct role for us.

I don't think Klopp is looking to get rid of Origi, but he also won't stand in his way if he wants to leave. The addition of Jota, in my opinion, was not down to the manager being unhappy with Origi but the combination of the AFC (though it has now been delayed) and the huge fixture congestion that is going to happen this season. Also a greater danger of players missing some games due to Corvid so a larger squad a necessity.

And I also suspect that the club are well aware of the striker panic buying that will go on next summer. Messi, Aguero, Benzema and Ronaldo are all coming to the end. Salah and Mane are going to be attracting serious offers, probably would have done so this summer if it was not for Corvid. Bringing in Jota early is a practical move.

Brewster, possibly, seems to be getting the Wilson treatment. His valuation has surpassed what the club think his ceiling is so are willing to cash in now, and probably invest that money on Doku.

The club is getting a squad that should be a serious challenger for both CL and the Prem this season and next, even if we lose one of Mane or Salah next summer.

The other advantage of Jota is that his style of play suits the way we play more than Origi’s. This is the first time we have a player who can come off the bench and do similar things to front 3. All of the people who work with stats are saying that the positions that Jota took up for Wolves are super similar to Mane’s at Liverpool. Jota can sub on for Mane, and Liverpool won’t need to change their approach. I don’t think the same could be said for Origi. It didn’t quite work for him on the left wing last season, and he can’t replicate what Firmino does through the middle.

If we play more 4-2-3-1 like we did last night, Origi might get more opportunities to play as a centerforward.
