Doesn't really matter if we keep on missing on CL. We're still paying 40-50mil. extra on salaries without getting the so needed benefits from spending 100+mil. on salaries every year. Right now we lack any real depth in talent in comparison with direct opponents, while still spending as much as many, and much more than some of them, which is bad the longer we're out of CL, as this is pure loss of over-all team value each season.

Yes, I feel the same way about Scammaca.

So far I think we've had an excellent mercato - assuming Dzeko and Perrotti leave and Milik arrives, particularly when you consider the circumstances: logistical and financial problems caused by the pandemic, DS leaving in the summer and still having to move on several of Monchi's poor investments.

As @Michael Berk says I'm viewing this as a true rebuilding year so in that view here is what I'd do given our financial constraints, some may be out there.

    - Sell Olsen for whatever you can get to get his salary off the books. Out there, I know, but it would be great
    - Cancel Pastore's contract. Again easier said than done.
    - Keep Fazio instead of signing Smalling. We have 3 good young CB to build on and Fazio is pretty good in the back 3. Fazio only has 1 year left and we should have a good idea of the 3 CB by then. If we have to get a veteran next year at CB
    - Use the Smalling money to buy Torreira. He give us a great balance and depth in a young MF.

ah, the annual Nacho rumors. Seems like every year we are rumored to sign him except he won't leave RM. Jovic... hard to get excited. He'll either be a bust or he'll be great and RM will exercise their ridiculously low buyback clause.

Hard to see us getting another big name striker (and by big name I mean someone who isn’t a literal nobody).

I’d love nacho if we can’t get Smalling though. It’s weird to me that we aren’t linked to anyone in midfield as we have very little proven quality of one of our starters go down. I think Villar will turn into a great player but I’d be surprised if the coach trusts him already.

I'm ok with offloading Fazio if we get in Smalling. However, wish this rumor was JJ.

I think that this year, especially with Nico going down is the transitional year that we've been pretending about for the last few. Didn't sell off all the bad contracts, but finally a massive step in the right direction. I have zero problem taking a step backwards, to build culture and chemistry, then start to fill in the gaps when we have a better feel of what they are.[/QUOTE]

We know where they are. It's been here for over a year. The pellegrini problem will continue to stall our attack. Everything on the pitch basically remains the same in terms of starting quality across the pitch. Assuming Dzekos loss isn't to hard on the team. We might also do better with the formation change from the off so there are some glimmers. Yes we've sorted contracts but I'll wait and see if the new owners understand the right approach to building a winning culture. It was a fantasy I've given up on under Jimmy's ownership.

Yes, I didn't add him as I think unless Roma progress, within a couple of years he may have out grown us and want to move.

At this point he maybe also have just a lot more experience than Mert. We'll see how he fairs this year to know better but I think he's a top player potential.

This is a big year for Mancini, IMO. At his age and his experience he needs to make huge progress this year and prove he's a top flight CB. I think he has it in him, he just needs to cut down on the mistakes

Well, lets see how it works out first. He has the talent but many times it's not about talent.

I just wanted to remind him when I said don't be surprised to see Rick back next year and he said there's zero chance of ever seeing him in a Roma shirt again ;)

ah yea. I have to admit I'm shocked he is. Hoping for the best though because he and Calafiori could represent the future at positions we have struggled at
