And that’s leaving out our captain who was in the PFA team of the year.

It doesn’t really matter what our first choice midfield is with the amount of games we are going to play. Klopp has the midfielders do all the running and that’s where the rotation occurs. It also allows Trent, Robbo, and the front 3 to play most matches.

Great to have Thiago - that Fab-Thiago pairing does have the look of Xabi-Masch to it. But, above all else, keep GW. He's a big part of the success equation in MF imo.

that's how I think it will play out as well. Matip has - what? - one more year left I'd guess? he'll be a great bench CB but as you say I think Fab will see more starts at CB as the season moves along. (IIRC Fab started as a defender (RB) and has played for Brazil in that position.)

add to all that is the icing on the cake -- the solid financial aspect, we pay as our revenues gt back to normal, another super deal by Edwards and his team.

This makes me feel better because this is at least a plausible blocker to getting Werner done.

I've been ignoring these rumours about selling Brewster, but .... ??

Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster has liked a post on Instagram suggesting he could join
Sheffield United in a £25m move. The Blades have been heavily linked with Brewster and the post in question read: "Rhian Brewster will possibly leave Liverpool to join Sheffield Utd for £25m."

we might not be able to stop him and he does NEED the playing time
as long as he has a clause in his contract for Liverpool to buy him back for £25+5 in couple years... it might work out for all involved

I like Brewster a lot and have high hopes for him but its possible that he's not the type of striker Klopp's wants . At the same time Brewster is a hot commodity who can bring in needed cash to sign a Sarr or Doku.

    agree to both.

my main concern - like most of us I guess - is the lack of top-level options off the bench for the front 3. Brewster may grow into that but needs a lot of playing time to prove it, or as speke says maybe Klopp's concluded we need a different style.

either way, needs to be resolved. we talk about how a bad injury to Mane or Mo (Mini is cover for Bobby) could hurt us ... what if both of them went down for a while?

Liverpool have enquired about Ismail Sarr and discussed his situation. No bid had been made but he is being seriously considered as a back up option for the front three. Watford would want £36m -Dominic King

tough call for Norwich, they really need him if they want to bounce back up.

even if we did an instalment deal again, I can't see us going near that kind of money for Sarr.

Thiago and Sarr in. Tsimikas already signed.

Two or three from Wilson/Grujic/Shaqiri/Origi/Brewster* out. Lovren already sold.

New 3 year deal for Wijnaldum.

Would be a very good window.

    * Brewster must have buy back clause.

That's a solid B, for me. Good enough. That presumes they get an attacking target.

Wonder if Ox is considered wide backup by Klopp now, considering the makeup of CM.

He's also going to a thoroughly likeable manager, if he does go, in Wilder.

Certainly great news to wake up to.

Will be interesting to see how he beds in to the team. I doubt he walks straight in next week, but he gives us so many different options. Mostly allows Klopp to save Hendo and Gini's legs.

As noted, Ox is likely to be the most impacted by this, but I expect he'll still get minutes in the front line.

While I still think its short sighted, for him and the club, to sell Brewster now, considering the he seemingly can't displace Origi to Shaq as depth in the front 3, perhaps he's just not the type of player Klopp wants.

Issue with bringing in Sarr or Doku, as well as Thiago is we don't have enough international slots in the team for them. Assuming Karius goes or isn't included on the roster, that covers Thiago, but still need one of Shaq, Origi or Grugic need to go to make room. Selling Brewster to fund another forward is great, but it still means someone else needs to go.

I agree. He walks into about 10 midfields in the PL. Just a matter of getting the right value for him, but we are the profit at like 10m, so you'd think something can get done.

Werner aside, what would make this an A grade for you Hobo?

As for the transfer news, Tiago will have great impact and I hope Gini stays as well. I look forward to a Tiago + Keita midfield. So many options now in terms of how we can lineup in midfield.

Not sure what to think about the Brewster news. Would love him to challenge for a place in the squad, but the coaching staff obviously see something Brewster’s missing.

Personally I think an A grade would be bringing in a younger "big" signing which had the potential to grow and be a larger force in the future, when Hendo and even Gini or the front three could be gone. Would also verge toward a B+ or so if they had a better/clearer plan for CB (don't like Fabinho there), or if they'd gotten the 1st choice LB backup (minor difference). I'd also consider the grade improved if they'd move on some of their not-good-enough/not-the-right-fit talent for decent prices, as they did with the likes of Solanke, Ward, and Ings recently. So getting decent prices for Grujic, Brewster, Wilson right now would IMO be really good business and bump them a bit higher.

I think the short answer is, it's pretty hard to get an A in a covid window! Chelsea get an A+ (or close to it) due to a number of factors which were sort of flukey. Other than that LFC, assuming they get an attacker in and move on one or two, have done well. Not amazing, considering Werner wanted to come... but well.

I think Thiago is a good signing all things considered.

Cheers. I think the above is the context by which we should assess the window. I firmly believe that we’d have both Werner and Thiago had a pandemic not impacted our plans.

If supporters are allowed back in full force at some point over the season, I think you’ll get your wish of a young forward next summer. I wouldn’t discount Sancho if I’m honest. CB will be one of the Dutch kids or Billy.

COVID has also impacted outgoings, but I’d agree that we need to trim some of the squad, but Edwards still has a few weeks to work his magic.

I think one of the biggest problems Brewster faced this summer was the lack of outgoings. If not for a pandemic, we likely would have sold Origi and Shaqiri. Even more funds would be raised by selling Wilson and Grujic who were not part of last season’s squad. We would have signed a new wide forward to replace Shaqiri’s place in the squad (maybe Werner), and Klopp might have been happy to give Origi’s place in the squad to Brewster.

Instead, we are receiving no offers for any of those players. Klopp is happy enough to keep Origi and Shaqiri, and probably can’t envision a scenario where he will use Brewster when he has the others as options. In the meantime, the only player that we are being offered money for is Brewster.

If we sell for 25 million with an option to buy back for 35 million, I think that makes sense. 25 million during a pandemic may be worth more than 35 million in a non pandemic. We get cash, Brewster gets experience, the buying club takes on all the risk, and if he lights it up we can get him back.

Real Madrid just sold Reguilón to Spurs with a buy back clause. They do this type of thing all the time. Sometimes they will buy back the player only to sell him again for more money.

I don't mind him going, with.a buyback is all upside for LFC. Wonder where they are in negotiating that deal... ~25M in this market feels damn good to me, if that's indeed true.

Apparently we are selling Hoever to Wolves for 10m!

(may be a buy back clause in there)
