Actually after watching it again with my glasses on this time, I actually got Dier and Toby mixed up but to blame Dier for that is incredibly harsh imo, like I said previously, you should give credit for the delivery and the header because there ain’t many defenders stopping that imo with DCL in full flight and having the advantage of the run up.

He was playing CB and in the exact right place but didn’t get off the ground .. that was his only job in that situation.

I’m just agreeing with what Gary Neville pointed out ..

Nobody even mentioned Ferguson, and Jock Stein played at centre-half before the centre-back position existed - it was the closest thing that existed at the time. Others who played at centre-back or centre-half include Rijkaard, Happel, Beckenbauer, Herrera, Buckingham etc., and that's without really trying. Whatever point you were trying to make about defensive players being unable to coach attacking teams is a nonsense.

Ok so that’s 7 possibles out of what .. a few thousand managers over the years ...

( and the only Buckingham I know was in Fleetwood Mac)

Anyways, It was simply a notion , a thought , a feeling .. an hypothesis that maybe , just MAYBE ... players that were CBs grew into defensively minded managers .

It was not something I stated as a FACT .

Surely an online footie forum is the place to sensibly discuss the ‘idea’ ??

I’ve no idea why some of you are taking it all so seriously .

It does go someways to explaining why forums are dying on their feet , though .

Hope White gets called up in October or November. He oozes class.

All of a sudden our dearth of centrebacks is looking better. Coady was excellent last week, white is looking good. Maguire, gomez, stones.

There’s something missing with him for me at the moment, he just doesn’t seem to be running at the defenders as much as he was so not sure what’s quite going on there. He seems to do a lot of step overs etc and then passes it when he would normally be having a go.

RLC on the other hand has struggled yet again unfortunately and is now just a shadow of what he once was! Looks like another one we can scrub off the list like Wilshere.

I think James is very close to being in the next squad. Kyle walker looks like he's done with England. Love to see him awb and trent as our right backs over the next 10 years

If Southgate is going to persist with three central defenders then Walker might be persevered with, he's already shown he can play right center back at the highest level of International football.

Ross Barkley looked so far ahead of him as a player when he replaced him it was actually quite sad to see.

Stats make for even grimmer reading for RLC. 67% pass accuracy, just 18 passes, zero key passes, zero dribbles, zero shots, zero defensive contributions.

Very sad. He was outstanding in midfield before his injury. Had everything. Chelseas fault for their stupid greed.

Problem is that he can’t afford to play like that because he won’t get many second chances in that side.

I think he has to be in the conversation plus he gives a real threat from the air. Abraham is going to be a bench player this season for Chelsea I would imagine as Giroud is probably ahead of him. To be honest, he’s another one that could with either being loaned out or sold.

Don't understand the hype over werner. Is Abraham really that inferior. Hes scored double figures last season in a harder league.
