I'll take it. Even though I thought that once the Fire moved away from Bridgeview, we'd be done getting 2-2 ties against them.
Dang. Good fightback, but a poor performance overall. Get well soon Darlington. Might be willing to see Cadden/Keita/Jimenez get some time next game.
Good fight back tie. But you know what my biggest complaint about this match is: F*cking Jacob getting blindsided by the injury report. Like, bro, what else are you working on? You need to know this Crew squad frontwards, backwards, and sideways. I know you were a hotshot beat scribe for the Lantern - be a hotshot MLS beat scribe. Oh, and, well, let's not forget all the people that pay a double-digit percentage of their yearly income to be season-ticket holders that had to watch this match on f*cking Twitter. Clownshoes, I say. God. Damn. Clown. Shoes. I hope the 2022 MLS broadcast roadmap is more robust than this shit.
Well, if nothing else, Zardes showed up when it counted. "Assisted" on the first goal, and got the equalizer. That goal come off a lucky bounce, but the moment it landed on his foot, I knew it was going to be a goal. There's absolutely no way in the world that Gyasi was going to miss that opportunity from that spot with the form he's been in. To quote some famous homer announcer, that's why he's here. 2-2 is absolutely a fair result, because frankly -- neither one of these teams deserved three. Etienne could have scored all the way back in the first minute, Valenzuela had a look in the box that should have at a minimum forced a save, and Mensah should have flushed that header. On the other side, Chicago made a mess of that chip shot, and that play in our six-yard box where the guy had a wide open net and basically aimed at Room is one of the worst misses you're likely to see all season. I think this game illustrated just how much Nagbe has done in terms of stabilizing our defensive side of the ball in front of the back four. It's not a coincidence (I think) that with him out, suddenly a bad team like Chicago is finding room to play. So, not the result we expected to get when the day started, but anytime you're down two at halftime on the road and get a point, it's an accomplishment. We've had plenty of times over the years where we've played well and still gotten hammered, so I'm glad when we can find ways to muck out a result like this.
Look, I don't want to be the stereotypical elder-millennial dickhead here, but: If a person can't figure out how to pause their TV to be in sync with the radio audio feed that you're listening to then you deserve everything you get.
Thanks for the advice stereotypical elder-millennial dickhead, we did what you suggested, before you suggested it.
If nothing else, this game really showed how much more important to the side Nagbe is than Zelerayan. We thumped FCKY with Nagbe and barely squeaked out a tie without him against Shitcago.
It was shocking to see us go down two early in the match, our defense was very unorganized, with a lot of unmarked Fire players in the penalty area. Its tough to play a team that is in last place if they are pissed off about their situation, which you could see in the Fire's play early on. Our two goals were so ugly, but beautiful at the same time. We didn't give up, made our chances count, and left with one point. Hope to see Lucas and Nagbe in the lineup next week!
For a moment, it looked like it was going to be the complete opposite. If Etienne doesn't catch that shot at the :45 mark with a little bit of the outside of his boot, it's 1-0 in the 1st and Chicago is on their way to getting San Jose-d. Which is what I thought was going to happen. I saw us get a shot off that quickly with relative ease and thought "here we go."
I don't think it's on Williams. It was a communication breakdown. He watches the guy with the ball and steps up to leave his man offside just before the pass but Mensah has made a deep run with another attacker.
Both of those goals also involved Crew players losing track of/getting beat by runners. Afful got beat to the spot on the first goal, Mensah on the second.
Every good team leaves points in the wrong places at times. I've seen plenty of the Real Madrid, Barca, Juve, Liverpool, Bayern, and teams like that lose, not tie, against teams in the relegation zone. In anticipation of the DFB Cup that started this weekend, they had the worst upsets and Bayern Munich made the list three times by losing against teams in the 3rd and 4th Divisions. One of them came after winning the double the year before. And they were fielding starters not a B-team (which still should pull out a win against someone 2/3 divisions down).
I have an honest, non-gin fueled question: Do you all think that every Crew team should go undefeated on their quest for the Cup and anything less than that is a failure?
