If anyone's bored and wants to compare Mapfre views to those at the new stadium, I found a convenient page from 2017 season ticket sales. Mapfre Stadium seat viewer New Crew Stadium renderings These are just renderings after all, but you can really see how much better the new stadium will be when you look at areas like the endzones or upper corners, it becomes clear just how much closer you'll be at the new stadium.
Mapfre view finder? Why did I just learn of this??? I hope they keep this up for many years to come. So many memories...
Y'all over here guesstimating about seats none of us will never get to without a phone call from JW (not that JW will never call any of us) and I'm just happy to be looking at sideline seats in 2022. I just want a place sit my fat ass down and enjoy a night out. I don't need a damn fireplace or my toes in the grass - though you better believe that if JW ever calls and I get a chance to get my feet on the field my shoes are coming off. I think I've been barefoot on the grass in the House that Lamar Built as much as not. I'll never forget the look on some dude's face at this past Nordecke Cup when I kicked my Nikes off and walked out to midfield like I was walking into Valhalla. Walking on that turf is a special experience.
Y'all can thank my wife for this internet find: https://www.tenfoldbrand.com/portfolio/columbuscrew-experiencecenter
I thank her tremendous efforts. Of course it leads to questions like: "The Columbus Crew Experience Center in the Short North is designed as the epicenter of excitement for the new downtown stadium, opening Fall 2021." Does this mean the Experience Center is opening in the fall of 2021 or the stadium? All communication for the stadium is July of course. Just want to make sure I am reading this correctly.
Playing on it even more so. One of the highlights of my career was scoring two goals in about 5 minutes there (when they used to do the jersey auction game--full field)--and getting applauded by a couple of KC players on the second. It is a very, very fast field.
Looking through the East Field Club piece, which are the seats on the field in red, they have an entrance through the little lounge in white which includes the fireplace towards the clubs. One thing of note is that the club inside has stairs which seems to indicate that the East Concourse Club in orange on top connects to it.
With no games being played, I unplugged from sports for a while. I have a serious habit of lurking without logging in or posting much. With games having restarted and lots of progress being made on the new stadium, it's been fun to be able to follow the Crew again.
Looks like we get Black and Gold seats in the new stadium. @ColumbusCrewSC's new stadium is rising in vibrant downtown Columbus! The dramatic design by @hntbarch will keep fans connected to the action from every point in the venue. Over 20,000 @IrwinSeatingCo chairs in black & gold are coming soon! #Crew96 #irwinsports #MLSUSA pic.twitter.com/CbDDRctVJw— Irwin (@IrwinSeatingCo) September 3, 2020
That’s awesome! Frankly, as randomized as those look, that should help the stadium look “fuller” on TV than it actually is.
I'm fine with getting the seats from Irwin seating as long as they don't get the closets from Closets, Closets, Closets, Closets.
Was reading this article about the Rams Stadium and now I think I understand why Haslam was willing to pump so much money in the stadium and go over the original $300mil budget. The NFL actually appreciated that the Rams owner didn't cut corners when the stadium price ballooned. https://www.latimes.com/sports/stor...-chargers?_amp=true&__twitter_impression=true
And I keep reminding myself about what GC96 posted about the things that Nationwide wouldn't let them do at Crew II. He strongly implied that there was some really cool stuff that got nixed.
Similar feeling, if somewhat different experience. When August Busch III was running Anheuser-Busch, the brewery on Busch Blvd had three soccer fields. The middle field, with seating for about twenty, was kept in pristine condition. Every Sunday in the spring and fall I would get to play on that field a number of times. I'd played on fields just as nice or nicer, in bigger stadiums, in front of a lot more people; but, for some reason I always got more excited to play on that field than any other I'd played on. Weird. Of course, could have been the ever-present scent of hops in the air. Or maybe the fact that anyone playing or watching games there on Sundays could pull up a cooler and drink to their heart's content, as long as they were drinking Anheuser-Busch products.
This does not surprise me. Working in the midwest parking industry for 15 years, Nationwide Ins. and its influence in the Nationwide Blvd. area is the only place/group I've ever had serious issues/interactions with pompous assholes at street level while simply parking some cars or running lots. That said, I have also met some pretty cool people who ran/run Nationwide Ins. Still, there must be some people inside that company that are serious douche bags.
I played up there a couple of times in Corporate Challenge. We'd hit the hospitality room at the brewery (the one at the end to the "tour") after the game. But as I really, all of that is long gone--though they still have a decent one at the main brewery in St. Louis.
I played there in HS for a season. Fields were beautiful. There is still a park on that property and the last time I was going from 71S - 270W there were goals sitting under a few trees on the edge of the park.
Well after a shit ton of rain last night, it seems the field area is rather dry today. The secant wall must be working. That's good, sure suck if it didn't.
