Let’s see if the lads on the pitch and Arena finally can cobble together something that appears to be something like professional quality soccer play...

More of the same so far. Lot's of passes completed to the other team. McNamara looks like the best of the potential #10's so far. Agree with Brad on his NBA comment. VAR must've been asleep -- that shorts grab on Farrell was a classic case for using VAR and awarding the pen.

McNamara was good. They might have had another goal if Bou had given him the ball in a 3 v 2 situation back in the first half.

That was better, but LOTS of coordinated play development needed. Congrats on the 3. Now it’s on to Philli!

They got the result. Teal MOTM. Good grind-it-out win from a team that badly needed one.

Better an ugly win than a beautiful loss. We won't beat a good team with the game we played tonight, though.

    • For the record, we didn't deserve to win that game. Bunbury's blootazo was a wonderful break that was against the run of play, and could not have been more perfect. This was the ultimate Bunbury game. Poor Bobby S. was still muttering after the game, and looking PTSD-ish.

    • I'm not sure I can figure out BA's approach. It seems like a combination of ongoing tryout and load management. There has been nothing like a consistent line-up, other than keeper and D. The D on the other hand seems to be settling in. Bye, Kessler, Farrell, and Büttner seem to have their starting places sewn up. Again, Delamea and Mancienne are awfully expensive to be watching fro the sideline.

    • Agree that Macnamara impressed. He and Polster bring the same kind of game. Diego had nothing to offer. Penilla, Buksa, and Rowe both seemed to benefit from having been benched.

    • Did Chicago underperform? They seem to have a lot of talent, but didn't get much done. I didn't get a good feel for what they might be capable of.

I think Arena has had enough of both Delemea and Mancienne. I know I have. Delemea got the hook very early. Unless he's hurt... there's a message there. Arena still needs to hire better help. Getting rid of the two mentioned would give him more money to hire people that can actually be used. And whats with Buksa? We cannot have a lone forward that never scores ..... or even gets shots

Delamea is coming off an injury. I think subbing him and TMac off were both managing the player more than the game. I think TMac is not full match fit and Arena is building him back up. The same may be true with Polster.

Buksa created the first goal. His lay-off header sent TMac in on the break. I am still optimistic about Buksa. This league can take a while to learn.

I mean I think we mostly won because they were even worse than us plus a little luck but I'l take it?

Anyone think the rebranded Fire actually look more like some kind of Revs kit than The fire?

Its exactly the kind of play I've been saying Buksa can make, and should be his most effective use. He is Oliver Giroud. Without players who can get him the ball in dangerous places to score, the revs will benefit most from having Buksa be a target making plays to wingers running off him. He did it with his head on that goal, but he can be equally effective doing it with his feet.

Finally, a Charlie Brown reference that doesn't involve Lucy pulling the ball away at the last second!:D

Wow, we could have given up 3 goals easily in the first 25 minutes. After that we settled down quite a bit.

Opportunistic goals from Teal - nice management of the break by McNamara on one. The other :p. I scored a goal exactly like that once - perfect cross ... er, shot.

We got too defensive after our first goal - and sitting back almost cost us. I could see why Arena was fuming at halftime.

OTOH, I think we killed off the end of the game quite well. We packed it in and defended, but did it effectively. Chicago got no dangerous chances in the late going.

I scored one just like that in college. Problem was that it was an own goal.

Bunbury has 15 shots this season. Only 4 have been on goal, but all 4 have gone in the net. He now leads the 2020 Revs in scoring.

Only 3 Revs players have found the net in 10 games now (not including MIB QF).

Of the 13-non scorers who have taken at least one shot:
    Code:
    Player Shots/SOG
    Penilla .14/2
    Buchanan 8/1
    Fagundez 8/1
    Rowe ....6/2
    Bye .....6/1
    Buttner .6/1
    Gil .....4/1
    Kessler .4/0
    Rennicks.2/0
    Jones ...2/1
    McNamara 1/0
    Zahibo ..1/0
    Caldwell 1/0
    TOTAL....63/10 (15.9%)

I thought the Fire created the better chances; we were fortunate not to lose, let alone get three points. But that's MLS -- always some randomness.

RE: Buksa -- it seems to me his runs are always very vertical and right up the middle. I feel like sometimes Bou in particular (but also Penilla) is expecting him to make more of a peeling / curling run.

To my eyes, he is so consistent with that "put pressure right up the middle" run that I feel it must be how he is being coached to play. Hope to see something better synched going forward....

Any win over Shitcargo is welcome, especially in this awful year.

Bunbury's goal was not lucky. He could have kicked it 10 yards over the crossbar.

    3 points and carry on.
