And 39 goals in 62 games with Olimpia since 2018, according to Wikipedia!

He came to MLS from Denmark. His career was blunted by not being more successful in Germany or England.

R.I.P. John. I had just mentioned him in another thread, where he was in the Revs first-ever victory vs the MetroStars.

I only met him once, when he was playing for Kansas City . He was amused and both a little flattered and puzzled that we did the "Six Degrees of John DeBrito" feature in every PoCM issue. If you're not familiar with it, we were able to track many of the greatest players the game has ever known--Pele, Stanley Matthews, Ferenc Puskas, Johann Cruyff, Diego Maradona--in 6 moves or fewer to DeBrito.

Got to have a little pro career and now a great opportunity for a long-lasting and socially beneficial career in medicine. Well done ML!

I wonder how other teams' alums stand up to ours. We have Dr. Leonard, Zak Boggs who is a serious scientific researcher, and Father Chase Hilgenbrinck.

A little more accomplished than some guy whose coaching a yoot team somewhere, not that there's anything wrong with that...

I had a friend, we used to joke about who coached the most doctors. We were tied at 2. I told him that I had the upper hand because I had a player who was on the Tufts championship team and pre-med. I don't know if he became a doctor, but it was fun and helps put the yoot's game in perspective.
    Stay safe.

And Marshall ran a series of training sessions for the Mariner Youth Soccer team that I coached in Fairhaven, lo these 'several' years ago. Always giving and cheerful. Congrats. Dr. Leonard! Thank you and be safe!

No knock on Benny, but it must be a pretty humbling experience to go from pro (and World Cup finals) player to college assistant, even if it is a big/storied program. I understand you have to work your way up, and his playing experience has put him in a position that would take others years of work to get to, but to take on a pretty-much grunt position in your late-30's ... I imagine his job will include running training sessions and recruiting high-schoolers around the state/country.

Well, OTOH, UCLA is a pretty cool place.

He has to get his A coaching license, doesn't he? I imagined that he would get some high level OJT while he worked toward his license.

I'd rather he do that then ... well, our previous two coaches.

Point taken with Heaps, but I think Friedel had better prep than Bennie's likely to get as an assistant at UCLA. If BF was lacking experience, it was mostly in dealing with the Revs' dysfunctional organization IMO.

I honestly do like Brad, but I had to laugh the other day when he implied that Henry and Kraft are both as well known worldwide.

The announcer who covered broadcast for Brad last night was good. He was on top of the details of what he was seeing.

Yes, please. He didn't feel the need to fill the audio voids with babble -- this also opened up the broadcast for Charlie to add more to the conversation (first time I think I've liked Davies' color commentary).
