All of star trek CBS shows except big bang theory, twilight zone etc.. Oh they added all the Viacom stuff too plus the other sports content
Curious to see whether or not group stage matches will make it on to their CBSSN channel or if the whole thing will be paywalled. Their website has all access listed for all matches for now, but their actual tv listings don't appear to be released yet.
CBS Sports to unveil live Champions League whiparound ‘Golazo Show’ on TV and streaming https://worldsoccertalk.com/2020/10...ue-whiparound-golazo-show-on-tv-and-streaming SA www.soccertvblog.com
Definitely no incentive for me as a neutral to get CBS AA now. I mean with Univision Family there was no incentive but this is the final nail in the coffin. I like whiparound shows and now I have two to choose from as a Dish costumer on my Hopper receiver.
Yeah cbs screwed me on this one. A) as a Marseille supporter I would probably never see them on cbs anyway bar their Man City matches B) as someone who enjoys watching full matches and not a modern “watch clips on twitter” sports fan I can’t imagine watching a goal zone show. You got me cbs. Enjoy my $5.99/month!
I didn't even know that I had CBS SN until the Lisbon CL tournament was scheduled. Just 2 months later, the channel has become totally useless to me again. CBS probably think it'll make CL viewing more exciting and thus draw in more viewers who will then want to buy AA. Ironically, through staggering levels of incompetence, they actually get to their goal more directly. With CBS SN showing 0 games instead of 2 per week it makes getting AA quite essential now.
Everybody has their preferences. For me, I have used a multicast for years now as supplemental coverage along with a featured match. In other words, CL is at least a 2-TV event for me (on most occasions 3-TVs but lets not go there for now). One TV tuned to the match you want to watch with the other on the multicast. As someone who almost never watches matches on delay, it's the best of both worlds as I watch my preferred match and get all the other goals as they happen. CBS is far from being unique in this endeavor. Obviously, TUDN did it last season in the US but it's being done across Europe for a long time now. Some broadcasters offering multicasts during matchdays: - BTSports/UK - SkySports/Italy - SkySports/Germany - RMC/France - ZiggoSports/Netherlands - MatchFootball/Russia All have a unique approach to the matchday. It will be interesting to see how CBS does it. The craziest definitely comes from Sky/Italy where they don't spend more than 30 seconds on a match as they bounce from game to game (a bit much even for me). Most concentrate on 1 or 2 matches that they cover until goals or chances happen elsewhere. BTSports actually minimizes the screen and uses the left side (about 1/4 of the screen) to show stats from all the games as well as the bottom of the screen to show all the scores. Great concept but takes up too much of the screen. Match Football in Russia simply uses the official UEFA multicast feed. So plenty of ways CBS can approach this. What I would like to see: - When showing goals, show the whole buildup of the play. Just cutting in to show the 4-5 different angles of the replays doesn't cut it. This means a 1-2 minute delay but well worth it. - Use the int'l feed commentators when going to matches. Horrible when a single studio guy is trying to describe the goal or chances and it's often done with low stadium volume. In other words, you don't hear the crowd. Bad feel. - Full screen. Avoid BTSport style scrolling stats. It's cool in a way but I think US audiences will hate it. That's my view of this news. Very surprised the multicast is actually on CBS SN as I would have expected it on All Access. But as a big fan of the format, glad an english-language version is being presented in the US. It just may bring some new eyeballs to the CL as we all know the ADHD nature of the average American these days (and really, everybody in the world). SA www.soccertvblog.com
How about penalties? Would you prefer going live as the kick is being taken and then afterwards replay how the penalty was awarded? Or have your suggested 1-2 minute delay and show how it all unfolded with foul first followed by result of kick?
Yeah, that's really the reason of my complaint - that the whiparound is on the one TV channel dedicated to CL coverage. Perfectly fine to put it on AA for people who can't wait 'til halftime to see highlights of all the goals (either way you're watching them on tape-delay ). I predict CBS will move away from this plan sooner rather than later. I don't think it works well in the CL context when there are only 6 games happening simultaneously, of which usually only 1 is really high profile like Barca v Juventus and then there is quite a drop-off. Just makes sense to show that 1 big game on TV in its entirety. Pulling people away from Messi v Ronaldo to show a Rennes corner-kick against Sevilla isn't going to be popular IMO. Personally, I would definitely prefer the latter. IIRC, FOX was also very similar to the Sky/Italy approach when they had a whiparound for the Bundesliga. What ends up happening is that the controller instinctively tries to anticipate game-changing events, so they would switch to the match where a free kick or corner kick or VAR review was happening. The viewer ends-up spending 90 minutes watching players stand around, arguments with the ref, goalkeepers setting-up defensive walls, etc. Not the most exciting elements of the sport.
SkySports/Italia are the only ones that go live to the penalty and then show a replay of how it happened. Definitely don't like that. All the others go to the full buildup before the penalty. The only exception may be if they are headlining 2 matches and the penalty happens in that 2nd match while they were live on the first. With a glut of goals (as it happens), I have seen goals being shown as many as 5-6 minutes after they happen. Not a big deal unless you have livescores on a web page which I actually avoid during the CL multicasts. SA www.soccertvblog.com
Couple of things on this - while I understand the "frustration" of not having a match on the TV channel, we live in an age where the TV channels are secondary to streaming. Unless you put the hierarchy (streaming over tv) right, you will get nothing but frustration. ESPN uses this philosophy but perhaps they are a bad example in that they still demand a nice price per subscriber from providers for their TV channels so it's a bit of a balancing act. For others like CBS, you have to have the mindset that selling the streaming service is priority vs the TV service. Second, the multicast can be viewed as good advertising for the streaming service. It's a "hey look at these bits and pieces and you can watch any of these matches by subscribing to All Access." I have long ago stopped differentiating between tv channels & streaming services. Yes, it can be a bit frustrating when the streaming service quality sucks (think beIN) but whether a match is on ESPN or ESPN+ makes no difference to me. It helps with the frustration level. But to be clear, if we start talking about cost and all the different streaming services you need for full coverage, we will be on the same side of that argument. SA www.soccertvblog.com
The pl goals show was not produced very well. It's a lot easier to do it with nfl and you have to get it right and there's a lot of production decisions that go into that. It's nice that cbs hired real talent, but looks like a real flop that uefa sold their rights to another holder that won't really grow the game and might actually shrink the base.
Are we really there already though? To me it seems that almost all the mainstream sports are still on regular TV, as it still provides the easier and more pleasant viewing experience for people of all ages. Less choice, sure, but the meat is still on TV while the excess fat goes to streaming. The day local NY TV stations aren't showing the Yankees or MTL stations aren't showing the Canadiens then TV will definitely be secondary but not there yet. Soccer seems to be handled differently than the mainstream sports, but maybe because its not that popular (hence relegated to a secondary platform - even "big" matches).
I, too, want to see rappers present us with Nations League highlights but it's going to be hard for them to find something to rhyme with "Luxembourg".
So here is how Matchday #1 of the UEFA Champions league will be shown in the US (all times US Eastern): Tuesday, October 20 12:55pm Dynamo Kyiv v Juventus UniMas, TUDN, CBS All Access 12:55pm Zenit St Petersburg v Brugge Galavision, CBS All Access 3:00pm Barcelona v Ferencvaros UniMas, TUDN, CBS All Access 3:00pm PSG v Manchester United Galavision, CBS All Access 3:00pm Rennes v Krasnodar TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm Chelsea v Sevilla TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm Lazio v Dortmund TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm RB Leipzig v Istanbul Basaksehir TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm 'Golazo Show' CBS Sports Network (multicast) 3:00pm 'Zona Futbol) TUDNxtra (multicast) Wednesday, October 21 12:55pm Real Madrid v Shakhtar Donetsk UniMas, TUDN, CBS All Access 12:55pm RB Salzburg v Lokomotiv Moscow Galavision, CBS All Access 3:00pm Bayern Munich v Atletico Madrid UniMas, TUDN, CBS All Access 3:00pm Manchester City v Porto Galavision, CBS All Access 3:00pm Inter Milan v Borussia Monchengladbach TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm Olympiacos v Marseille TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm Ajax v Liverpool TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm Midtjylland v Atalanta TUDNxtra, CBS All Access 3:00pm 'Golazo Show' CBS Sports Network (multicast) 3:00pm 'Zona Futbol) TUDNxtra (multicast) SA www.soccertvblog.com
So Univision down to two matches per window on TV? And to my knowledge they still don't have any apps for connected devices (Roku, AppleTV, FireTV, etc) for the games on TUDNxtra.
The Golazo Show on CBS SportsNetwork is following the BTSport/UK format. So smaller screen with results of other matches on the side and info on the bottom. If you don't want to spoil results from the earlier kickoffs, don't look as the scores are on-screen. They are going to the Int'l commentators which is nice although the studio people are talking a little too much as they switch venues. Most importantly, they show a goal scored on the ticker but do NOT say which team scored as they prepare to switch over. They show the buildup to goals it seems (they did on the 1st goal of the day). This is very professional. I'm sure many will hate it - especially those that want to watch full matches on delay. But this is obviously geared to people that want to "see it all as it happens". I personally give it a thumbs up. SA www.soccertvblog.com
It is very professional but I still prefer the Spanish language version because they are so excited after every goal. The cbs show is more sedated.
Feel like they haven't learned the lessons of how others have done it. RedZone is the gold standard and there's a reason for it. American football is it's own sport and is easier to cover in this format, but they have one pro doing it and he doesn't spoil what's about to be shown. It can actually be dramatic, but a little graphic indicating GOAL and then going to that game where they're in one half of the pitch makes it pretty obvious what you're about to see. And if they want to show a highlight and you haven't seen the GOAL indication, you know it will be a save or an incident. The chatter was just annoying and I say that as a big Carragher fan. Him squealing before a highlight was also another thing that takes away from the enjoyment. There's enough personal preferences with a goals show to make it a minefield for people's preferences, but this was a bit of a letdown for me. I can deal with the cringefest of "HERE'S AN AMERICAN COMING ON" if they get the rest of the stuff right. Worldsoccertalk also tweeted that it was supposed to be 60 FPS, but the app's streaming quality has been a major letdown for me. I can barely tell what someone's number is from the wide angle shot with a 65 inch television FFS.
Just tried my ROKU instead of my Androidtv and it looks very clean so obviously an androidtv feed issue.
