Return to Gillette Stadium. Originally scheduled for Friday Aug 21, moved to Thursday. New England Revolution vs. Philadelphia Union | 2020 MLS Match Preview Dylan Butler
Is that official? The knockout stages weren't part of the MLS regular season (though I don't see MLS letting him escape punishment at some point).
I have comcast in Connecticut and don't get NBC Sports Boston. Will I be able to watch the match on ESPN plus or will it be blacked out because I'm in New England? Anyone know?
I'm in roughly the same boat: I'm in Boston and don't have any cable, but I do have ESPN+. I think it will be blacked out on ESPN+; at least, that's been my experience in the past. I've found that Twitter is the best way to follow "live," though sometimes there are feeds that are accessible if you do some digging online.
Yes, Pehota had it in her training report video (starting at 3:11) : Training Report | Games, games, games August 14, 2020 11:40AM EDT
Lemieux reported that neither Manneh nor McNamara will be available for this game, due to a 10 day quarantine imposed by MLS on players changing markets. Keeping that in mind, my XI: Buksa Bou Penilla Polster Rowe Buchanon Büttner Kessler Farrell Bye Turner Key Subs: Rennicks, Rivera, Caldwell, Jones, Fagundez Teal has looked really bad, I dont think he even offers late game energy right now
Lemieux Previeux | Revs make long-awaited return to Gillette Stadium with rematch against Union August 19, 2020 5:59PM EDT Jeff Lemieux
Philly defended us very well in the tournament - hopefully the coaching staff has come up with some new tricks this time around.
What is it that incessantly prevents the Revs’ forwards from connecting on attacks? Same old, same old!
I have to believe if they keep playing like they did for long stretches tonight they will eventually start to score.
How many times are Bunbury/Buchanon going to be allowed to kick and run right into a defender before they get taken off the field. These are professional attackers, they cant be giving the ball away so cheaply
Im lucky I even saw the game. Turned on the TV and there it was... I thought we looked good and ALMOST scored (hit the wood). Something still isnt right though. We seem to have little strategy but cross and pray. We still need something else up top. I am not a Buksa fan I guess. He's big and works hard but I just dont see him doing much for the Revs. Seems a little slow and depends on someone else setting him up to maybe score. I would like to see a faster, more mobile guy up top if I could make a change. I think Diego and Caldwell's days are mostly over. I have Verizon fios and have no problem getting the games.
I thought the Revs looked good. Polster is a positive addition. I agree with the sentiment that somethings missing. I'm hoping that McNamara or Manneh can play Gil's spot so that Bou and Buksa can both be in the box together. Bou playing Gil's position doesn't work in my opinion. Sure he can play it, but I didn't see him make any passes to himself in the box.
at about the 55th minute I was thinking this is going to be a 0-0 tie or Philly was going to score late on a counter attack. Polster was pretty good. He and Rowe seem to work well together. I am just not a fan of Bou dropping deep to collect the ball. the revs looked the most dangerous when Bou and Buksa were flying around the box at the start of the season. They need to get back to that. This game should have been a win. to many blow chances
I was able to watch it on ESPN plus. Not sure if I consider that fortunate or unfortunate in the end I was impressed with Polster. Saw play a couple times for Rangers and he was competent without standing out. They need to figure something out so they can get Bou up top. Not convinced by Buksa so far. Has not looked DP quality.
Not while they play two track stars (Teal/Tajon) who forget how to kick a soccer ball on the RW, and have Penilla and Jones on the field
I thought they dominated Philly to a large extent, but just didn't manage to create quality scoring chances. I was rather shocked to see the time of possession pretty even - it felt like the Revs owned it. A vast improvement from the last time the two teams played. I thought Polster was very good, but came out pretty reckless. He was lucky not to get a yellow well before he did - and almost seemed determined to collect one asap. Maybe he's still playing Scottish-style, but he won't be on the field long in MLS chipping at player's heels and tackling from behind. All that said, I loved the assertiveness and leadership he showed. I'm not worried about Buksa - he's already shown what he can do when he's given reasonable chances. Agree with the comments about Bou - having him as the playmaker is weakening his attacking threat while not adding much to the overall attack.
Some positive comments on Polster: Armchair Analyst: Miami make their mark, Sounders roll & more from MLS's return August 24, 2020 1:17AM EDT Matthew Doyle
Agree that Rowe and Polster were a pleasant surprise, though Polster seems to have the Jermaine Jones gene for How-far-can-I-push-the ref-without-getting-a-yellow? The defense as a whole looked as organized as I have ever seen them. Philly is a good attacking team, and they got nothing. Agree with Monty and many others - it looks like we could go the entire season without scoring at this point. I disagree about Buksa being physically slow, but mentally, he always seems to arrive at the right spot 1-2 seconds too late. What's worse, he (Buksa), Penilla, and Bou were sloppy. Bou is no #10. There was a decent amount of pretty football in the approach play, but no hive mind when it came to shots on goal. Without Gil, this team has no - zero - creativity in the final third.
