True. At a bar, painful commentary is less of an issue as there are other distractions. Someone has to be at Phil Schoan's level to annoy me at a pub.

Exactly, making the market even more limited because how may big games aren't on one of the Spanish channels? The market for streaming in sports bars is still very narrow because TV has almost everything (even if in Spanish) people would go to a bar to watch.

But still, in the long run streaming offers more options and the quality can be higher with the right equipment. I think if/when Sunday Ticket moves from DirectTV to a streaming option, that's when most bars will take the plunge and get everything in place to stream. Until then watch in Spanish or watch on the app.

For now the CBS app is more than good enough and to be frank provides a level of coverage even many European countries don't have (NBC is similar, better PL coverage than in many euro countries). The important thing is though I can at least watch the match. That's more than I can say for anything on Bein sports, and while ESPN/NBC/FOX let me watch everything, I have to get robbed by the cable company and pay for their app in order to do so. In my opinion a world in which I can give CBS/NBC/FOX/ESPN all 5 bucks a month and be able to stream almost any soccer match is more than good enough for me. Cancel cable and $20 a month for the football, a steal compared to what SKY (or other foreign broadcasters) charge.

The problem with canceling cable is those other family members. I need to ditch them. :)

Can bars broadcast Talk Sport Radio (legally)?

If I were a bar I would just show Unimas with Alexa playing Talk Sport from Tunein radio.

(It is about 25 seconds off but you are able to synchronize with a DVR. I tried it today on Dish.)

it’s a sad state of affairs when being forced to watch on a friggin app or a non- English station for the damn quarter finals are the only options.

most people I know don’t consider laptops/ phones/ tablets adequate for regular viewing, and as someone else said, perfectly fine for an airplane.

    It’s ridiculous.

If you’re talking about CBS All Access both the CBS All Access app and the CBS Sports app are available for all connected devices (amazon Fire, Roku, AppleTV, etc) and many smart TVs. As far as the Spanish stations, the images of the game are exactly the same as the images you’d see on the English stations. I don’t understand why anyone would care in the least what language the commentators spoke in. Frankly, I’d prefer no commentators at all.

Thanks for this. I might have missed it if it was covered in the thread (as I skimmed it quickly) but anytime I hear "app" I assume it refers to a mobile device, etc. I checked and indeed Roku does support it so appreciate the heads up.
Images yes, which is better than nothing, but a lot of soccer fans don't speak Spanish and like the commentary, and find it incredibly frustrating. I want to be clear, I am not taking a swipe at Spanish stations, but more at the lack of viewing options (your post addressed this, again thanks) for a rather large soccer event. Besides the Wcup, Euros, and WCQ, this is pretty much (late stage games) the biggest soccer event out there, and its a shame a major sports network didn't pick it up.

Hi, I have Youtube TV that has a channel labeled CBSSN all access. The CL or Europa League games, however, are not live, can be watched a few hrs later or recorded. Right now, Sevilla- Manchester, I had to find a stream on the web... inconvenient.

Do you know of any way around this issue other than paying $5.99 for a subscription?

I've had days where getting the bartender to change a TV to a particular channel was the toughest thing I had to do all day. So I'd file this idea under the 'good idea in theory' folder.

Anyone suspect CBS will air any early round CL games or probably wait until Playoffs round?

CBSSN has been fine for me but I rarely watch live. The only problem has been the WNBA games running long. I always set the DVR for 90 minutes of extra recording but that didn't work with Shakhtar-Basel and I ended up cut off in minute 87.

But what the hell was going on tonight with Inter-Shakhtar. The fake stadium sounds were completely unstable. An idiot must have been working in the engineering room thinking those crazy Europeans are allowing fans in the stadium. When you have screwed up stadium sounds of a fake crowd, cut out that part of the feed. The feed comes to the network in layers. Keep the commentary only. That was something a high school TV station engineer could figure out.

Do the CBSSN replays with the ticker spoil the game they are showing? Asking for the future.

I figure eventually they are going to start crediting the fake crowd noise guy and we are going to have opinions about them they way people at clubs have opinions about DJ's.

He'll get away with a pirate feed until ESPN shuts him down. He wouldn't be the first to be shut down either. The commercial licenses can get quite expensive. Back in the Setanta days, it wasn't uncommon for a bar to spend $1000/mo on TV, especially if they had multiple providers. Maybe they'd have DirecTV with Setanta Pub Channel and the local cable provider for redundancy/backup purposes. Their cable bill wasn't the same $45/mo as a residential customer.

Setanta was also verrrrry protective of their rights. They'd send employees around to make sure bars were charging the cover fee. Heck, even if you just wanted to take a peek at the Setanta TV to check the score, they'd have to charge.

Yes, but if you can't get a commercial agreement from ESPN or CBS to stream, I doubt they are actually enforcing this stuff. It really seems like the market is too small for them to even bother with commercial streaming agreements at this point. It's not as if these bars are trying to pull one over or skip out on fees, there is just no other way for them to broadcast some matches.

A heads-up that I think CBS will be streaming the Women's Champions League final 8 tournament being played in Basque, Spain. The quarterfinals begin today at noon ET.

They are not doing a good job of advertising this. Even if you click "Women's CL" on their app it is not obvious that they are showing live matches. Hence the "I think" above.

I'm very impressed with the early coverage of UCL/EL on CBSSN. Almost felt like i was watching Sky Sports at times. Light years better than B/R, obviously.

Doubt it. They mentioned during tonight’s match “follow next seasons group stage with every match streaming here starting Oct 20”.

I feel the CBS presentation caters more to the EuroSnobs than the actual American Audience, it might not fair well on regular American TV

They've been getting a lot of grief on Facebook since it's not on "free TV" where it's apparently been for many years until now.

I guess everyone has Hulu or YouTube TV or whatever streaming service that doesn't get CBS SN and are forced to subscribe to All-Access.

Apparently the broadcasters mispronounced a few names today. Someone thought they heard "Game 7 of the World Series" but I thought I heard "and the..."

Me? I thought it was professional. Yes, they could have tuned more lights on in the studio, but that's not a big deal.

However, I'm watching CBS SN now and it's listed as "Champions League Matchnight." The first 20 minutes have been an exact rebroadcast of the postgame coverage. I thought it was going to be a proper highlight show. The second 30 minutes (starting as I type this) seems to be a highlight show.

It's 1:23am (ET) now and from 12:30 to now, they're showing a condensed version of the match.

    However, my guide showed:

    CL Matchnight from 12-1.
    UEFA CL Final from 1-3:30.

Time to cancel my free subscription. I'll pay-up in October. Two months/$12 will be good for the entire group stage. Not too shabby.

CBS sent me a reminder email that my free month was ending in 7 days. Classy move. Many others would stay quiet and just hope people forget to cancel before their free month ends.

Anyway, I went to cancel my subscription and they offered another free month so I took it. Doubt I will watch anything from Aug 30 to Sep 30 but its free so why not?

Any other stuff on there worth keeping the sub? I have not looked that closely. Might they add some new stuff worth viewing?
