Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Signed up for the Spurs-on free trial for a month, and this was my first text through! Good loan deal for all i think, Davenport says he knew he would be loaned out and is fine with that. It's easier for a player, as i believe Wilhelmsson said, to join up with a new club in pre-season. So when Davenport comes back off his loan he can rejoin Spurs in the summer as a proper player, this experience is useful as Southampton are struggling and get a lot of defensive pressure. His quotes make him seem like a very professional and positive lad, someone we should be well pleased to have on board!
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Good move for him, he'll be in the action alot their from what i saw of Southampton at the Lane.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton http://www.spurs.co.uk/article.asp?hlid=247676 I don't suppose they'd take Keller as well? Maybe they can buy Gardner off us instead at the end of the season, thereby creating an opening for Davenport here.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Good stuff. He's cut all his hair off too like Edman so he looks different. It'll be good to see how he performs at the top level. My dad made a point earlier saying they could quite easily sell King over the summer and still be in very good shape defensively. They'd have Gardner, Davenport and Defendi (who I hear is doing great), Naybet would probably be good for some games too and also Pamarot for centre back.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Good move for Calum, he needs the Prem experience. What's going on with Defendi, how is he progressing in the reserves?
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Good loan deal for Calum, He'll get good premiership experiance and should make him a better player
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton There was actually something in the Mail on Sunday about him. They just said he's 18 and is playing as well as Sol Campbell and Ledley King were at that age.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton The defender situation is looking good for the future with Davenport, Defendi & Mills looking to partner Ledley next year or the year after
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton I don't know why but the only youngster I'm not sold on is Anthony Gardner. He is exceptionally tall, fast and talented but he just doesn't seem to have that 'winning mentality' MJ is a big fan of.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Based on what I've seen of Southampton's defense this season he'll certainly get a very valuable trial by fire -- great experience.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Could he still be called a youngster? Gardner will be 25 later this year, Simon Davies 26. They're not rookies anymore.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton ^^ Well call him a bust then. BTW such a slow transfer window for us so far, I was hoping we would have picked up at least one contributing player by now.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Can a mod put an R in the title??? Might as well use this to report on his progress. He is starting today against Fulham along with Jamie R. Fulham have named a pacey strikeforce, so this should be a good test for him.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton He was ok. Went off in the second half (he took a knock on the calf but it didn't look like much and I think he was going off anyway). Didn't do anything that wrong (quite a few misplaced passes) but didn't dazzle. Redknapp was actually better. He got really stuck in and was at the hub of most of their attack play. Not bad considering I can't remember the last full game he played.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton warn people that a result from a match is contained within the thread. as for davenport, the write-up on soccernet gave him fairly high marks.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton I don't think he played poorly but hard to tell with Southampton being utter shite. I understand why he went out on loan though as he did get burnt by Radzinski's pace and a great ball by Pembridge. This can only help though as if he does suck and can't hack it at least we know without having to see it at WHL. Hard to pick him out though with his head being shaved now.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton He did better in Southampton's FA Cup game against Northampton. According to Saints fans he's promising but needs to get a run of games and to build up his match sharpness. It has been nearly 2 months since his last full first team start, so that is understandable, particularly as he got put straight into their team. Will be interesting to see how he does, Saints are trying to add other players to their back 4 which will help them.
Re: Davenport on loan to Southampton Results: Davenport is on an upwards curve now after a dodgy first few games. Against Newcastle he gave away a pen early on and was shakey, but did help setup the Saints consolation goal. However in the Liverpool game last weekend he is said to have had a much better game and got named to the BBC Team of the Week. Was marking Morientes and kept a comfortable clean sheet, dangerous at attacking set pieces as well. Saints fans I have heard from are rating him highly, say that he's improved their back 4 a lot and rate his ability. Like the Spammers fans they're yapping away about the possibility of signing him permanently or if there was an option to buy. This loan is shaping up to be a great move, at this rate by the time season ends he should be a completely comfortable Premiership defender.
Davenport was at fault a fair bit for the Everton equaliser today. He went too deep, although I suspect that was a tactical decision by the Southampton defence. Bent caught him out with the burst of pace and a great shot. He will learn from these things, although with Dawson here now and Huddlestone inbound the pressure is on him to be a strong player when he comes back to us in the summer.
