Yanks have been big ballin with the empty stadiums and the corona virus. Pulisic has taken charge at Chelsea, Tyler Adams gets a brace in a huge champions league game, Ream and Fulham get promoted, Novakovich and Frosinone are one game away from Serie A promotion, Sarg and Werder Bremen pull off the German Great Escape, and Ian Harkes is helping Dundee United gatecrash the SPL. All good things.
Juve reportedly on the prowl for Dest. It'd be great if we suddenly had two players in next season's Serie A. "Juventus are negotiating for Sergiño Dest, Pirlo would welcome him voluntarily". https://t.co/MBRyjZv0d8— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) August 13, 2020
Are you serious? Adams doesn’t have an offensive game. He’s TERRIBLE out wide in possession. Not much of a defender out there out there, besides recovery runs.
May we continue to have players in the USMNT pool so bad that they are on the field in the final minutes of Champions League quarterfinal matches and scoring the winning goal . . .
I'm not super concerned about limiting the offensive potential of a guy who just scored his first goal in two years, even if it was an important goal.
This kind of reminds me of the Kante debate when he was moved from 6 to 8. Yes he improved offensively and actually showed to be adapt at making late runs into the box. However, while it made him a “better” overall player it took him away from what he was literally the best in the world at.
One of our YA, Nicholas Gioacchini may be choosing Jamaica over us? Playing in the 2nd division in France but gaining first division interest including by impoverished BuLi clubs. Any YA followers know him?
20 years old(6'). 2 goals and 0 assists in 1204 minutes of last season's Ligue 2. Am I missing something? In the way of young YA forwards, we already have Nova, Kelman, Sargent, and Efford. Then there's Siebatcheu who has a much better Ligue 2 record.
This seems like it was pretty close, but then the plug was pulled............ The transfer of Weston McKennie to Hertha BSC is off. The player has trained with the squad today and is set to remain at Schalke for now. [BILD,🥈] #S04 pic.twitter.com/sbLbev9ABo— Schalke Daily (@S04Daily) August 14, 2020
Sorta disappointed to see both of them (and especially Ledezma) back with the youth team. Is there anything to this? I know they were training with the first team (and maybe played in a friendly?) a week ago.
that will galvanize the likes of West Ham, Crystal Palace, Everton into action. Maybe even more. West Ham could sell Rice and use part of that fortification on Weston
ARE You kidding me? You want this kid on the wing? Berhlater is a stubborn maniac if he does anything but having Adams as a core player in the middle for his USMNT. We have one of the most dynamic DM/CM's we ever had, and lets have a formation that does not suit our player pool at all, and screw this all up just so Berhalter can pretend he works for barcelona and to satisfy his network and find a spot for bradley.
He's not on "the wing". You have to drop your prejudices and ask exactly what area is he playing. b.t.w., I'd like to see those stats adjusted for playing with a 3 cb line and a 2 cb line. Just think for a minute: with 2 cb's, Adams sits between two cb's who are set wide. Now look at his "times dispossed" stat. There's nobody behind that dispossession - only the gk. And, b.t.w, when he gets dispossessed higher up or by the touch line, if he is playing with somebody who is also good at pressing, he should get the ball back.
Gioacchini is my favorite U23 striker besides Sargent (Balogun looks good too, but it seems like he’ll wait for England). I think he has a very high ceiling and could even be in contention to start in Qatar if he breaks out this season (not saying this will happen, but there’s a realistic possibility). He is highly technical and creative. He kind of reminds me of Dempsey in the way that he “tries stuff.” He can dribble by guys and draw fouls at a higher level than any of our other potential 9s. I could be wrong, but I believe he drew the most amount of fouls per 90 in all of Ligue 2 last year. He also seems to have a natural ability to find himself in good goal scoring areas. He and his manager have said that the next step is improving his end product. If he improves his finishing, Gioacchini could easily score double digit goals this year. And if he does that, it sounds like a move to a top 5 league is imminent. He has rumored interest from Serie A and his manager said it will be very hard to keep him in Ligue 2 for much longer. Based on his recent interview with ASN and his social media activity (he follows USMNT, USYNT, and Pulisic on Instagram), I doubt that he ends up choosing Jamaica unless he doesn’t develop as planned and isn’t good enough for the USMNT. Here are some quotes from the ASN piece: “I watch all of their friendlies and the World Cups that they've played in,” Gioacchini said of the U.S. team. “I watched Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey - those were always my idols, Jozy Altidore too. I really appreciate all those players playing for their country. I want to play for it too.” “I love playing here at Caen in France,” Gioacchini said. “But if this national team brought me back, it would always be a joy.” “I didn't even know it was him,” Gioacchini said of his call from Berhalter. “When I did realize it was him, I was like: whoa. It was quite an honor to see his number on my phone…I was not expecting that. I've been wanting to be with the national team for a long time. It is any kid's dream. As soon as I heard about it, I was so happy that it looked like I was in shock. It's been my dream since I was young and it's what I want to do. Representing your country is every kid's goal but not everyone can reach that. It's only a few selected players. I felt really honored and happy.”
Thanks for the overview. I had a contact at Schalke ask me about him given that he was a player they were looking at maybe buying. The profile was similar to your summary; creative, attack minded with flair, technically very good, tactically very sound, and quick/fast high enough work rate to be a successful wide attacker in the BuLi. Could be a poor man's yet more technical Leon Bailey.
Very cool. Schalke could really use a creative player like him. I forgot to mention this, but he’s also pretty good at holding the ball up and playing with his back to goal. He’s more of a wide attacker for Caen, but he calls himself a 9 and definitely has the ability to play as a single striker, even if he may project more as a winger.
And by "contact at Schalke" THHF means another clueless message board poster like himself. Seriously, I remember when this guy tried to get folks to believe he was an insider with the USMNT and now he's doing the same with Schalke. How pathetic...
