I think that's a tough call to make. Bands have a signature sound, usually, and as much as I don't care about vocals and lyrics in the music I dig now (which is primarily piano trio jazz), you can't say how that sound would be with a different singer, especially if that singer has input on the music.

I just don't rate Grace that high. I like the songs I listed earlier, but I love Runaway, Count On Me, and Miracles even more, and she isn't the lead vox on any of them. Marty Balin is (or someone else). I also love Hearts more, but that's from his solo stuff. It doesn't hurt that the Balin-led stuff is from my teen years, and White Rabbit & STL predate them.

My workplace is the University of Idaho. The university spent about $1.5 million over the summer on several things they feel will position us well to succeed with students on campus. To whit:

    * The development of our own in-house Covid testing apparatus, in partnership with the local hospital. As folks return to campus and everyone has a test, they can process 1000 a day with results within 24 hours. They did a pair trial runs with 100 people each two weeks ago, and then rolled out fuller testing late last week and this. All students need a negative test before they are allowed back in class; testing is optional for faculty and staff but pretty much everyone I know is getting one.

I had mine yesterday, and was in and out in about three minutes. Uncomfortable to be sure; I would not have guessed that damn swab could really go that far into my head.

    * Upgrading all teaching spaces with cameras and mics, and covering or removing half of all seats. This is both to create adequate room between people and then to make sure anyone who does not feel well can stay home that day.

    * Instituting a robust track and trace system.

    * Purchasing PPE by the truckload for all offices, and installing plexiglass shielding wherever someone is in regular contact with other people.

    * Purchasing masks and hand sanitizer for everyone.

    * Hiring a Covid czar (coincidentally a friend of mine so I get good updates), with ample experience in managing logistics and chain of command sort of endeavors.

    * Going in-house for production of things like hand sanitizer and some PPE where supply chains are less reliable (the big issue right now is paper towels, believe it or not, which can't be produced in-house and have excess demand right now).

    * The refurbishing of a retired dormitory to serve as an isolation space if a student tests positive.

    * Lots of work with the Greek system and with university housing to train on distancing and the like. (No one has real faith in this one.)

There's more. It's as much as any place can do, and I am impressed as could be at what they've accomplished. If any place can succeed, it's us; they've done the leg work.

    And yet . . .

That's a lot more than our little college is doing. Which has me a bit worried.

Though luckily, we don't have a greek system.

you should read about how Taiwan reacted when Covid hit the news.

their response was spectacular - mostly because they actually had a national pandemic plan.
that most people knew about ....
    and had recently practiced ....
and it worked (almost) flawlessly when executed for real.

    freedom ....

not long after 9/11 I remember watching a tv piece on the reaction in the US. it included film of a woman teaching her high school kids (somewhere in the Midwest, can't recall exactly) about the cause of the attack. "They hate our freedom. You have to understand that America is the only country where people have freedom."

She was serious. And my guess is many of those kids will grow up believing that.

I miss the frequent updates from the Iranian spokespersons. It's bad enough that the German Monitor was banned thus we are only left with the Dutch remnant. :(

Ps....I wonder if they were ever able to sink that formidable aircraft carrier they nailed together!

I just saw a month old article that notes that while 60% of Covid-19 fatalities in Europe are over 80 years-old, in the US its less than 50%.

That's about as favorable as it's gonna get. It's y'all's generation the right is trying to kill off, in search of some sort of herd immunity...

What it's saying is that a slightly (for now, anyway) higher percentage of younger people are dying here. We already know why. What's probably going to happen here is, your age group's numbers won't go down, but the numbers for younger people are going to continue to rise as we go out and live our lives.

Texas seems to be combining the reopening of schools with a reduction in testing.

Good move! Reducing testing will reduce the number of positive cases.

    Elsewhere:

6.8% positive test results in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn (70% of the local population in Hispanic or Asian). Is this the NYC second wave?

Well, not only did the carrier capsize and sink in 40' of water they also "accidently" sent one of their own warships to the bottom during a training exercise. They are currently near Bandar Abbas, a major Iranian port responsible for shipping the country’s oil overseas and also one of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy’s largest naval bases. We might just win this one if we stay out of it. :coffee:
