It's already light years better than B/R Live was.

But how about some of us who think like this:
"I hate your news ticker because it is distracting and makes my screen smaller, so I will watch the games in Spanish on the other channels, and not watch your channel at all."

Yeah, if there's a game I 50% want to watch and there's a ticker, I'll just not watch it or find it elsewhere. That's what happened with the MLS return cup. I hope the ticker dies a miserable death during sporting events.

CBS is not showing any of the quarterfinals or semifinals on live TV....only on their streaming service.....

That's already much worse for US soccer fans.....turned on CBSSN just now to watch PSG-Atalanta only to find them showing some stupid talk show.

    EPIC FAIL.....

You have to get the app. Atalanta are quite good.

No, you don't. You can just tell CBS to f**k off....

I'm watching the game on Univision instead.

App has been a buffering nightmare for Android TV. Wired connection as well. Haven't seen too much buzz about that on social media so maybe it's a me issue, but I don't think so. Don't really got the logic for airing the round of 16 and not these when their network channel has a nothing show on. Studio better than tnt, but at least tnt would've had this one.

You can do that too, if you get Univision (now TDUN). Funny thing is, we bitched about cable prices and wanted to just pay à la carte, now it turns out we want so many channels it is expensive. The reality is Champion's league does not have the viewing numbers to be on CBS, and soccer always has the network issue of no comercials (thank god), so no reason to be bitter about it.

Sorry if this has been covered above, but for those having trouble finding the game on the CBS All Access app (scrolling through their shows, etc ... I tried to put the ManU-Copenhagen game during extra time and couldn’t find it), you can use the CBS Sports Live 24/7 app. The games are prominently listed on the splash screen. You just add your All Access credentials and voila. (Sorry if this was already covered. I’m not really following this thread as I’m happy with Univision. But my friend just told me this and I tested it on Roku, AppleTV and Fire stick.)

I'd be fine paying a la carte. The issue is when you have to pay for bundling and then a la carte on top of it. Just a huge mess with the cable companies having rights so they don't want people to cordcut(NBC<>Comcast) and networks like ESPN able to double dip since they still rely on the old ways of collecting massive per-subscriber fees.

Not sure why you would torture yourself just to make a (very small) point. A bit like those that vote against their own interest. CBS' coverage is quite good. Univision is even a step down from Fox Sports World days. Complete amateur hour. lol

They have their sports network, CBSSN. It was showing some stupid talk show during the match.

And every previous Champion's League rights holder has shown as many knockout round matches as possible on live TV. I think it's probably been 25+ years since the Champion's League QF/SF matches have NOT been on live TV.

Why the heck did CBS buy the TV rights to show the matches if they're not going to actually show them?

I wish they were still on TBS....

Doesn't make a difference how good CBS' coverage is if they don't show the matches on live TV.

I didn't torture myself by choice....it's because CBSSN was showing some stupid talk show instead of the match.

I'm not signing up for some stupid app I couldn't care less about just to watch a couple of Champion's League matches.

    Maybe it was contractual.

CBS did acquire the rights last minute after all. They weren’t planning on anything this year.

I just can't follow the logic for that. They were able to hire A grade commentary and studio teams. This is clearly a push for people to get the app, though I oddly don't remember them pushing it too much when they were on CBSSN last week.

So, then we get the app or watch in Spanish. Simple.

I'll have to check if I get CBSSN. I wonder what the talk show is and what it's ratings are. In normal times, I worry for the sport if everything is on obscure channels, because it is never on in bars and such then; but these are not normal times.

I see what you're saying but I don't know how in 2020 someone could run a sports bar and not have access to all the sports streaming apps. Its a failure to provide the main thing that their business is supposed to provide.

But yeah... even here in NYC the main soccer bar closest to my office doesn't have bein.

Sport bars can't just stream whatever they want. Like TV, it requires a licence and I'm not sure commercial licences even offered for most streaming services. Most bars also wouldn't have the bandwidth to stream everything. One or two streams is fine but a sports bar showing 20 different things would probably strain your average small bar. I've seen a few big games broadcast at bars on ESPN+, but thats about it.

I'm perfectly fine with CBS putting everything on an app as long as all the games are in fact on the app. What is obnoxious is NBC/ESPN most games on a paid app and then still requiring you to have the cable channel to see big games. CBS doesn't do this, the app is functional, the price isn't absurd, production is to an international standard and you get all the Europa league stuff. Its really the same amount of remote clicks for me to stream v watch CBSSN, and its nice everything is on the app because games are in the middle of the work day usually. This is as good as it's reasonably going to get unless you speak Spanish.

I had to try the app because I wanted to see the post-game analysis with Roberto Martinez and CBSSN just cut the post-game off in the middle on the replay.

The app looks pretty good. There is no news ticker on the app, unlike on CBSSN, so that is a big improvement. The image quality also looks a little better on the app than on CBSSN. There is also a lot of other programming (mostly non-sports related) on the app.

I am pretty sure they are offered because some bars have them. In fact, I am heading to one of them in a few hours for Barca x Bayern.

You have a point about the commercial licence. I am curious how much that would cost.

Bandwidth is a non-issue IMO. We're not talking about showing 20 different things on streaming. Just having the capacity to stream 2 things at once covers 99% of all realistic scenarios IMO (since regular TV could supplement and that's where most sporting events can still be found).

Does the bar actually have a licence? I watched the FA cup at a bar and asked them how they were able to show ESPN+ and the guy basically said he just streamed as normal on a computer and projected it to all TVs in the bar, one stream no licence. I suspect more and more bars will do this sort of thing until it becomes easier to get a commercial licence. I don't think it would be any different than what DirectTV offers now for commercial businesses, but realise that almost all major sporting events are on TV. Soccer is really in a niche where people will go to a sports bar to watch, but its not actually on TV. This is why there aren't a lot of bars with the right commercial licences yet, it really only applies to soccer and maybe other niche sports like cricket.

Bandwidth can be a big issue because even small bars today run their POS, wifi etc all on the internet. Of course they have the bandwidth for a couple of streams, but most don't have enough to show 20 different streams at once reliably without impacting their bandwidth. If there is one big game on then bars can have only one stream which they project to various TV's, but for multiple events I think most small bar would need to significantly upgrade their internet capabilities. Again though, this is a specific issue for soccer, where even big matches are streaming only. For every other sport, the big items are on TV, and the benefit of streaming is being able to watch something obscure or niche (i.e. showing 15 different college baseball games at once).

Point being a downside to things being on streaming now is you can't just stroll into Buffalo Wild Wings and ask them to put the game on. It really needs to be a soccer bar or a bar with streaming set up, which are few and far between. But I think we are in a transition period, and in another 10 years every bar will stream everything so you will be able to walk into Buffalo Wild Wings and ask them to put on the Serbian B league and they will have it.
