Now it works: thanks! Edit: as an Italian (thus speaking a language that, although not as close to Spanish as many claim, has anyway a lot in common with Spanish), I can totally subscirbe this part of the article, that basically express the same doubts I had indicated in my post above: "The term replaces the "o" in "Latino" or the "a" in "Latina" with an "x" to make it gender-neutral. But in doing so, its critics say, English speakers are imposing a term on the Hispanic and Latino population that doesn't make sense for them. [...] "Perhaps the most ironic failure of the term is that it actually excludes more groups than it includes," wrote Guerra and Orbea. "By replacing o's and a's with x's, the word "Latinx" is rendered laughably incomprehensible to any Spanish speaker without some fluency in English".
My college has a lot of students who come from Spanish-speaking households, and these students never use "Latinx.". I'm glad I noticed that early on, because HR and Admin is really big on it, even though it generally results in eyerolls from students supposedly described therein.
I find "Latinix" used at work among those from Spanish-speaking backgrounds and not but my workplace slants heavily towards activists.
soooo ..... people who reach for their pitchforks at the merest hint of cultural appropriation think it's OK for them to bastardize a word from another culture.

The irony is indubitable here - however - since English lost its gendered nouns between 600 - 1000 years ago, it leads us to this issue with assimilated loanwords, especially when they are gendered nouns. Most native English speakers would consider both ‘Latina’ and ‘Latino’ as English words nowadays - hence the inclusive attempts to remove the gender assignments. This seems paradoxical at best, though YMMV.
The term came from Latino/Latina academics. I think everyone should just start using the "vos" and end the words with "i" and "u". That'll help.

Quite an afternoon for America. We were treated to a lovely demonstration of intelligence, compassion and integrity. Then we saw some idiot take a shit on the stage at the White House as 160,000 Americans have died. Decision 2020 sure is a headscratcher.— Adam Parkhomenko (@AdamParkhomenko) August 12, 2020
