also have to say that the kind of positional discipline wilder demands seems like a no brainer complement to robinsons attacking game.

Really like this move! Can't wait to see him fight for that starting spot.

Enda Stevens was a very solid performer for SHU this past season. If Antonee can beat him out we know we have a player.

I am on board with this move. Sheffield United was the surprise team in the EPL last season with their style and league position. Chris Wilder is the main reason why. Very excited for Robinson. I think he’s walking into a good situation. Reportedly the Saudi owner is looking to inject some cash into the club so that’s going hopefully improve the squad even more.

Stevens is good and was always available. They don’t use their lbs in a way that necessarily fits Robinson’s skills. But maybe this helps him develop defensively. Interesting move. Vamos Antonee

Well, if you're on board I guess we're all on board. I have to say it makes me nervous to hear @dougtee talking about positional discipline. I'd be happier if Robinson got to free-wheel it for the most part, but I guess he can do that for half of every game (when his coach is stationed on the opposite side of the field).

This is awesome. They clearly aren't buying him to stick him with the U23s or whatever, so he's going to get sub minutes at a minimum, it seems.

Maybe he starts out as a late sub for when the defensively-minded Sheffield need some attacking impetus to get a result?

Hopefully this'll force Egg's hand with getting him integrated into the squad. Easier to ignore a bottom half EFL player than a mid-table EPL guy.

I don't know who Antonee Robinson's agent is, but they've handled his career arc since his ACL injury flawlessly.

Stay with Everton U23s to regain match fitness.
Loan to a Championship side (Bolton)
Preseason with Everton first team, loan to Championship (Wigan)
    Transfer to Wigan
Interest (and a near-deal) from a big-name club. (Scuppered by medical issue, all in all a blessing in disguise)
Transfer to a mid-table EPL team team. (Sheffield United)

Every move gets him playing time and allows him to grow and develop. Every move is with the long-term in mind.

The kid is still just 23 and will be making millions and will be on a huge stage.

He's earned this with talent and hard work. But he and his family also hired advisors who have managed his career really well.

The only thing I hope for his sake is that he gest the PT he needs. Nothing hurts a young player more than to be on an EPL team that begins to flounder toward the relegation zone.. Coaches start ating weird doing whatever they can to keep from falling. Sometimes they tinker like fools to get points...
Id say they wont have that issue but I didnt expect Watford to go down this year. That one schocke dme.

Excellent move, and he's going to have his chance too. It's all on him now.

If you find out who his agent is, can you connect him with Sebastian Soto?

    Thanks in advance.

Stevens has just turned 30 and the other LB on the roster, Robinson is about to turn 27. He was signed in January until June 2022 and has been a specialist LB all his career, but has played at CB in all his Sheffield United games. He could be Stevens's long-term replacement.

The alternative is that, as @KALM noted, is that, with very little rotation going on and the manager recognizing fixture congestion and lack of depth in the squad as a problem, he's going to rotate both as they push for an EL place. Sheffield have a very small squad - only 21 players on the EPL list - and they still came very close to EL qualification. If they're to consolidate in their position, they'll urgently need depth to cover for the inevitable injuries and loss of form, as well as tactical alternatives.

Them getting Wigan the point deduction was the Wizard move however.

I guess the only cavaet to this transfer is he's a relatively reasonable gamble? But still, they like him enough to pay him. Really hoping he grows into a nice, solid EPL back. That would be aces.

I for one, am ready for all the posts about how this wasn't a good move when he fails to play the first 3-4 games and the endless discussion about how a bench player shouldn't start for the USMNT.

He will certainly get an opportunity. The English in general seem to try (especially mid to lower table teams) to get English defenders from the championship at a higher rate than other positions. Given that it's such a small squad and Antonee is a natural left sided back, it's really all up to him now.

What a fantastic landing spot for AR. He is going to get his shot to get minutes. Kid has his chance to move up to starter relatively quickly IMO. Stock is on the rise.

Beating out Enda Stevens will be tough for Antonee. On top of being really good, Stevens has played a ton of league minutes over the last 5 years. It's almost remarkable. His durability in England is something you just have to respect.

Here is a breakdown of how much Stevens has played the last 5 years.

    19/20: 3347
    18/19: 4029
    17/18: 3973
    16/17: 3981
    15/16: 4212
    __________
19,542 total minutes the last 5 years for Enda Stevens.

Stevens is now 30 and there are certainly some very dependable and steady 30 year olds in the Premier League but he has a lot of miles on those legs.

Robinson has a good chance to beat him out because he's a good player. But he's probably going to have to beat him out. Stevens doesn't seem to get injured.

This would be a great move, but I already know it's going to trigger the shit out of me in the long run, so I'll get this out of the way:

    It's Sheffield United.

There are two big clubs in Sheffield - United and Wednesday. They ********ing hate each other. Referring to either as just Sheffield is like referring to either big Manchester club as just Manchester. It's incomplete and weird.

Plus, there's an actual Sheffield FC that's the oldest club in world football (founded 1857), so unless you're referring to a club in the 8th tier, please complete the name.

Everybody calls them Blades, no one is going to be writing a long name. As for the others, Wednesday works fine (or Owls if you're too lazy), and Sheffield on the rocks is reserved for the old club no one outside England ever mentions.

I put in a decent shift.
This really seems like a "you" problem. I'm happy to say SheffU or just United. or "Not Wednesday" and possibly, "Not the pub league Sheffield" to try and get around your pet peeve.

I'm assuming, in this thread, when one speaks of Antonee and merely says Sheffield that everyone will infer he hasn't magically switched allegiance to Wednesday and just goes on about their business of assuming we are speaking of the side for which he plays.

There's a literal plague going on and you're going to get that riled up over the word United? lullz. You must be a hoot at a socially distanced party.

I plan to call them Shefieldski. And only use one F. Because I don't give two Fs.

    I'm bold like that.

Here’s a new exclusive interview with Robinson. Sheffield United is definitely offering him major playing time. Here are some telling quotes:

“The main thing for me next season is I want to keep playing and keep doing well and performing. If it looks like I’m not going to start, it (Milan) might not be an option unless I’m not getting the offer to start elsewhere.“

“My goal next season, no matter where I am and what I’m doing, I just want to play. We’ll just see what happens.”

“I was unfortunate to miss out on the Gold Cup last summer. I’d have loved to have been playing,” he said. “That would have been my first international tournament.”

“I’m just waiting now, hoping I’ve done well enough to get called up and hopefully start when international football gets back underway.“

“I do want to play, I don’t want to be second-fiddle to anyone anywhere. It’s just not in my nature.“

“When it comes to World Cup qualifying, I’m desperate to win anything. I have my heart set on doing really well and that would be a dream come true, playing in the World Cup as well.”
