I think you are both right. Mendez is still at a point where his game could benefit from a year at Jong Ajax, but the tea leaves suggest that Ajax don’t see him as a priority prospect. Unless he makes a huge breakthrough this season, I think summer 2021 is a time to think hard about an exit.

Now this I absolutely agree with. I don't think Mendez is good enough for Ajax. I do think he's good enough to use Jong as a step elsewhere and that Ajax will let him go for a small fee if someone else comes for him. So he's playing for his next move and now is the time to prove he's 1st division material, somewhere.
27 players. No Richards. I hope he's working on a loan or permanent transfer elsewhere. Our #UCL squad travelling to Lisbon 🔴⚪ #MissionLis6on @HUGOBOSS #SuitedbyBOSS pic.twitter.com/m7bgsMnsJd— FC Bayern Munich (@FCBayernEN) August 9, 2020
Yeah, I feel like they're kind of jerking him around at this point. It's like they're pretty sure he's not Bayern quality, but there's just enough doubt that they might be wrong that they want to keep him around and not let him explore other options.
In case people didn't see this news, there are reports out of England that Sheffield United have beaten West Brom to the signing of Antonee Robinson. The report here is that a 2 million pound bid has been accepted. As a reminder, Sheffield United finished 9th in the premier league last season. U.S left back Antonee Robinson nears transfer from Wigan to Sheffield United https://t.co/1TquNSfce3— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) August 10, 2020
Its a weird one, because their left back Enda Stevens just signed a contract thru 2023. But no matter what club a player goes to in a "big league" there will be competition for playing time. Enda Stevens ain't exactly Roberto Carlos. I expect Robinson will be "in the rotation" next season with an opportunity to win the starting role moving forward. If the deal is only 2 million pounds as rumored, that's a bargain at twice the price. If I remember correctly, AC Milan was willing to pay 6!
Hertha Berlin still in the picture. This is being reported as "close" by a couple of news organizations. Hertha's new owners are ambitious and want to splash the cash. The reason to like the move is that he's going to play in their first team. It doesn't seem like Marko Grujic is returning, so McKennie fills that spot in the lineup. By the way, the same clubs that have been connected to Wes in England have also been linked to Grujic. Southampton, etc. Schalke just seems to be a financial mess. They've been pretty transparent about it. That might be good news for our young players at the club like Taitague. If they can show their value, they have an opportunity to break into the first team. Bild reports tonight Weston McKennie could be on the verge of what they describe as an “emergency sale” by Schalke to Hertha. Schalke seeking 25 mill Euro for the #USMNT player. Hertha want to pay 20 mill. Compromise possible. Transfer key to Schalke as part of survival plan.— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) August 11, 2020

A thread eligible player scores a goal in the Champions League quarterfinal and crickets. We'd rather argue about Thomas Roberts. And assisting on the Tyler Adams goal was former #NYCFC midfielder/leftback Angelino. Peace and harmony in the #HudsonRiverDerby https://t.co/unP9ce0lD0— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) August 13, 2020 Brian reminds us in another thread of the path that Adams took, which is a model for what we want to see. He went thru the USL contract.................... Tyler Adams: RBNY academy ▶️ RBNY II ▶️ USL championship ▶️ RBNY ▶️ Supporters Shield ▶️ CCL semifinals ▶️ RB Leipzig ▶️ Bundesliga 3rd place ▶️ Bundesliga third place, again ▶️scoring the winner of a Champions League quarter final ▶️ Stay tuned— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) August 13, 2020
Hey everybody stop what you’re arguing about because Tyler Adams is going to score a goal 2 days from now
God it’s such a weird thing to think about. I remember RBNY fans being upset that they didn’t sign Olosunde, but were only okay with signing Tyler Adams. We all have huge hits and misses, we would have more luck betting betting on random snails racing. None of who pans out makes any sense. I say all of this to preface that I remember not speaking out about how much I like Tyler Adams because others didn’t like him. Although I never thought after a pretty decent U17 WC, that he would be here. Never write off these players early. Very non-standout player can become what Tyler Adams is to us now.
the adams stuff shows how much of this is about mentality once you get to a certain talent level. when you see him now you can clearly see that hes an incredibly thoughtful person and equally hard worker and theres no real way to know that about a 15yo besides by seeing him work day in and day out
This seems like it was really close, and then the plug was pulled. The transfer of Weston McKennie to Hertha BSC is off. The player has trained with the squad today and is set to remain at Schalke for now. [BILD,🥈] #S04 pic.twitter.com/sbLbev9ABo— Schalke Daily (@S04Daily) August 14, 2020
Dammit. Back with the reserve team. I think this goal highlights that Ledezma doesn't need more time at this level. Its a nice goal, but he did walk thru four Gent defenders like they weren't playing the same game. 1294244988587585536 is not a valid tweet id
Alex Mendez will travel with the Ajax first team to Austria! 🇺🇸 https://t.co/rhuyW1Bpq2— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) August 14, 2020
I remember Marsch throwing him out in a CONCACAF Champions League away game -- must've been in Costa Rica, maybe Panama. I *really* didn't get it at the time, he was mentally a step behind when passing and possessing the ball. He looked active at the time defensively, but the inability on offense looked really bad. The lesson is that the ability to improve is a really important skill.

English news reports are suggesting that Luton Town would like to sign Cameron Carter Vickers (22) on a permanent deal this summer following his loan but may not be able to stem the fee financially given COVID. Tottenham has reportedly put CCV up for sale for around $3.5M 👀 pic.twitter.com/VVIS2nSvKU— OneGoal (@OneGoalUS) August 16, 2020
As far as I'm concerned, that's a bargain for CCV. Surely that small of a price tag puts teams better positioned that Luton into the frame. McKennie to Southampton back on? 1295728531469672455 is not a valid tweet id
