Corporate media benefits big time from this, no doubt. As I've said before, that 24 hour news cycle doesn't fill itself.
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/07/who-will-speak-at-dnc-392533 Not sure if this means anything, but Kamela Harris has a confirmed speaking role at the Convention. You wouldn't schedule her if she was going to the be the VP
Also they're insane if they don't have AOC to speak to a big audiece. I don't agree with all of her politics either, but she is by far one of the most impressive legislators I've seen in recent history - and that's based on substance. She and her staff do an incredible job of prepping her for hearings, do the real work of lawmaking and rule making - and then you add her personal charisma, her ability to connect - I mean she is absolutely going to be a national Democratic figure for the next 20-30 years. She's earned a big spot at the convention.
Nah.....I disagree. You have so many more important figures that won't even be on stage. That would be way premature to have AOC there. How to justify an AOC if you don't have a slot for Mayor Pete, Stacy, Amy or Beto?
She more popular, dynamic, talented and representative of the future of the party than any of those good people. I'm an AOC "fan" - I don't agree with a lot of her politics, but her talent is undeniable. I mean this is like passing over Pulisic to start Jordan Morris for the USMNT. Morris is really good, and I'd probably start him across Puli, but Pulisic is a superstar in the making.
She is media savvy, and she is not afraid to speak up (and appears to be intelligent to boot, which can't be said for a lot of congressional members). But she has been in office for less than 2 years, and prior never held political office. In political terms, she is "Johnny come lately while those charlie mentioned are not. Give her time, maybe in 4 years, to let her speak. Besides, while she is liked by many of us on BS, she is not a friend of moderates. And anybody from The Squad will be attacked, as will the Dems, by Individual One.
They got Hillary Clinton speaking. You think Trump isn't gonna attack ANYONE who's out there for them?
Exactly. Go full bore against him. Have Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Rep.Tlaib speak. Turn Rep. Katie Porter loose. She is awesome. Have Senator Hirono speak. She is good for a few choice comments. Maxine Waters, as well. I would mine his tweets and the top 20 Democrats that he has abused should each get 5 or 10 minutes. Make his head explode. The only limiting thing is time, since the programs are short. In 2016, they gave Sarah Silverman a prime slot.
But mostly, can we just quit with the fretfulness about how Trump is gonna react, McConnell react, Bernie Bros react, me toos react, BLMs react, etc etc. Either you get on the bus or you're going to get a face full of bus exhaust, and wind up hitching home. Time to just take Tiger mountain with or without strategy.
It wasn't just a slot, it was the keynote. And he mentioned my home town about six times as an example of a place that was getting roughed up by the economy.
Did you read the last line. Clinton is a moderate. Moderates. Moderates. This election will be won in the suburbs, and they are not lefty like those you mentioned. Remember, this is a war, and you don't win a war on a single attack, or a single battle. So while I would love to hear all of them speak (apart from Tlaib, as Chad said, her antisemitism can stay at home), they are not representative of all dems nor are they likely to win the suburban voters.
Most of the party are moderates and not fire breathing Progressives... Bernie’s getting a speaking role, but I doubt anyone on your list will..
Different times and different sets up as well. The convention evenings were 4 or 5 hrs of speeches. This year the event will only last 2 hrs max every night. With all due respect to AOC, Obama even then was a different caliber.
Interestingly, Bernie will share his evening with John Kasich. A way to show that from Kasich to Sanders, Biden is getting support across the spectrum.
Biden met with Whitmer last Sunday. Whitmer Met with Biden Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) traveled to Delaware last weekend to meet with Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s first known in-person session with a potential running mate as he nears a decision, the AP reports.
Josh at TPM is raising there AOC question as well. There is also reportedly significant debate over whether breakout progressive star Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will land a primetime role. The argument on either side is not hard to see. President Trump’s campaign is aggressively attempting to paint a Biden presidency as nothing more than a vessel for the “radical left” agenda — and GOPers have cast AOC as the most “radical” of all. But giving a young, rising progressive star a speaking role at the convention could help excite younger voters about Biden, and the party more generally. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/prime...ced-leave-high-profile-figures-out-convention
Sure, I know that, but the further reaches of the parties often "fire up the base" a bit. Plus, it would drive Trump craz(ier).
Okay, agree about Tlaib. And, of course, I agree that the suburbs will win the election. My post was about poking the bear.
