just noticed now that he did not have a thread. Made his debut this morning alongside Carlos Cuesta and Lucumi https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=796015361226118
Ha. I was looking for this folder. I posted the full game in the Lucumi thread. I always wanted to start a thread for a player. I had my chance!!
so I just saw the whole game with Lens, he played as a holding midfielder but he is given a ton of freedom because he moves around to pretty much anywhere the team needs him, he moves up higher centrally to support the strikers or he'll end up on the wing or maybe even in central defense to cover their 3 man line. He played very well, didn't seem like it was his first game in europe and he didn't seem to struggle much. Sometimes due to the nature of the game he would not get a ton of the ball but he was a great team player. Genk struggled to break down Lens because of the pressure the players place and because of their defensive shape so it at times there was not a ton of space or time on the ball. I will hopefully get a chance to watch more Genk, if I can sit through MLS games I can definitely watch the Belgian league
Haha hope to see the 3 Colombians starting games. tho if Lucumi does get sold and that gives Cuesta more game time that would be great too as long as Lucumi plays at his new club as well. 3 great prospects for the NT. Did Cuesta play some game’s as a DM?
I am so interested in knowing how Queiroz will use him. He was once again listed as a Defender during the last Fed callup/zoom meeting. But CQ loves Medina at RB and Arias is doing well at Atleti so he may never get a chance there. I would put him at the Cuadrado position to see what he can do as backup # 8. .
I want Cuadrado as RB like he plays for Juve at CB it’s the worst spot for anyone. A healthy Mina and Sanchez won’t be bench for another 10-12 years unless we are insanely lucky and someone magical comes out of nowhere.
Funny thing is Cuadrado is probably going to start at Right wing on the front line in the Champions due to injuries, You and a few others want to see him at RB but we have talked about this before. Playing RB for Juve is way different than Colombia. He seems to play much better for them at that position and gets calls for them he won't get for us. Also he seems to flop around and lose the ball more when he is in Yellow. And it seems like Queiroz is very closed minded to the thought of him at RB as well, I think I remember a press conference where he was asked about playing Cuadrado at RB like at Juve and he said something like if Juve plays him at Keeper should I play him at Keeper??? (That says it all folks, he is our #8.)
Personally, and my opinion means nothing in the grand scheme of things 1. Arias 2. Cuadrado 3. Medina 4. Munoz Should be the order for RB for now. Depending on how the WCQ process goes and how his club form goes, I would love to see Munoz gradually get involved similar to how Barrios got involved last cycle. I wouldn’t mind seeing Medina play against North American teams or against Bolivia/Ecuador/Paraguay
I think if we are going to play Cuadrado as an 8 then Munoz should be getting a chance to unseat Uribe. Uribe/Munoz/Cuadrado for 2 spots is pretty good cover. I like Uribe and think he's good but he's not indispensable by any means. I haven't seen much of Munoz but sounds like a real talent in an area we're short. Also if he or Arias can play LB we should be trying looking for more cover there going forward.
Sounds good. Althouth CQ seems to like Yairo a lot. And Ironically he plays another position (LB) at Leon.
I guess the two players many of us want to see make their NT debut is Muñoz and cantillo. Sounds like Muñoz has the flexibility to play defense and mf - similar to Lerma and his first few appearances. How would cantillo fit in the depth chart? Would he also vie for a spot in the uribe role??
I don't think Cantillo plays the same type of box to box roll as Uribe and Munoz, he's more of a Barrios positionally but with more creativity. I'd like to see Cantillo used as a backup/alternative to Barrios at first, or if we switch to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-2-2-2 we can use them both. Cantillo more of a deep playmaker then Uribe or Munoz basically so not sure he'd be ideal in the 4-3-3 we're using unless its in Barrios spot.
I think if Edwin Herrera makes this move to Mexico or, especially, Argentina, then he should be in consideration, too. Kid is talented. I agree with your listing, even though Quieroz has Medina at the top... I will say, Munoz, to his credit, is one of the best scoring full backs I've ever seen. Dude knows exactly where to position himself and when to find his way forward. Yeah, I don't know if Cantillo has the pace and physicality Quieroz appears to want from the 8s. The thing is, I don't see Quieroz sitting Barrios down for Cantillo unless we're playing against Bolivia at home. I'd love to see him there, though. If he has guys like Yairo and Cuadrado next to him constantly moving from box to box, with the wingers we have, he could work some magic...
Agreed, I find it baffling that if healthy and in form, Arias isn't automatic there. Had best balance of overlap and lower brain fart/temperament loss tendency at higher level.
My theory is that Medina crosses/passes the ball better than Arias. At least that is one of the reasons I think he is preferred.
Yeah qualifying for the WCQ is going to be a condensed schedule so even more then other years we're going to need depth at every position, and for games we're going to dominate it's a good time to let Cantillo do his thing, like you said as long as he's surrounded by other guys who will be covering the ground he can get on the ball and create for those guys. I think also some games we should be considering a 4-2-3-1 and in that case he can play as well, but especially with CDM's they are always going to be getting cards so we can't expect Barrios to play non stop, getting Cantillo settled with the squad as soon as possible is best for us especially considering Lerma likely can't play the same role as a sole CDM as Cantillo and Barrios likely can.
You can't forget Campuzano. He's the more natural substitute to Barrios, and even though I'm not a fan of him Lerma can play there as well. And, if things go well, Atuesta is another one who can potentially be a deep-lying playmaker in the future. It's pretty insane the potential depth we have in central midfield considering this was our weakest area in the last cycle. CDM: Barrios, Lerma, Campuzano, Cuellar (if he leaves the Middle East) CM: Uribe, Cuadrado, Yairo, Alzate, Munoz, Cantillo, and maybe Atuesta
I like Campuzano, but hasn’t he missed many games past two years? His club form and fitness was starting to show rhythm prior to Covid. Cuéllar against Paraguay was solid in CA19
Boca's current coach, Russo, loves him. Alfaro did not. I won't hold it against him too much. Barrios also took a couple seasons before he broke through, too. Cuellar...what a loss. Would've been a Libertadores champ and probably would've had gotten a nice transfer had he waited a few more months.
