Well, we're nearly at the end of the story... With my thanks to @L'orange and Graham Taylor, who both reminded me about it in an indirect way. L'orange wrote during the lockdown about the dramatic Dutch v English men's match that was in a famous documentary. Even while losing, Taylor came up with a great line, "The referee's got me the sack. Thank him ever so much for that, won't you?" This Euro 2017 game, good enough to re-post, was dramatic in a different way - thankfully it was decided by the teams, not the refs. And no memorable catchphrases, but there was some very ugly abuse by England boss Sampson at that match. 27: Netherlands v England European Championship Semi-Final Enschede, 3 August 2017 ⬤ FIRST HALF (starts @ 40.00 mins in the telecast) https://www.npostart.nl/nos-ek-vrouwenvoetbal-voorbeschouwing-en-1ste-helft/03-08-2017/POW_03563683 ⬤ SECOND HALF www.npostart.nl/nos-ek-vrouwenvoetbal-2de-helft-en-nabeschouwing/03-08-2017/POW_03563685 Highlights: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVEgT6Iulj8 Match info onsoranje.nl/teams/207834/uitslagen/wedstrijd/29974 Reports: Eurosport / NOS.nl (Archive) / BBC Sport / DW.com In the other semi-final earlier that evening, at Breda's stadium, Austria managed a draw. Skills battle between van de Donk and Groenen to see who can fake out more English players, two critical goal line clearances from Spitse, Groenen and van de Sanden terrorizing England's left flank all match, Martens and Miedema with important goal contributions, England with peculiar shot placements, and Bronze with one of the most confusing dives I've ever seen.
Thought Spitse had her best game of the tournament with a quality free kick goal, a good assist, and solid defense. Still think that early challenge on Groenen could have easily been called a penalty since the contact prevented her from getting to a ball very much still in play. High quality individual goals from Harder and Martens, and classic center forward goals from Miedema (qreat counter attack for the first and neat build up before Spitse's pass for the second). Quite an entertaining match overall.
here's the full replay of Netherlands last game vs France in the Tournoi de France. The Dutch control the 1st half, but it seems the other way around in the 2nd a little extra both Ellis & Wiegman revealed of their battle plans for last year's WC final, but what Wiegman thinking that "the Americans would loose their patience" if they couldn't score in the 1st half?(considering how experienced the US side was) FIFA Women's World Cup on Twitter: "You know the result. But HOW did Jill Ellis and @wiegman_s try to win the #FIFAWWC Final? Here, they reveal their tactics. And reflect on how the game unfolded. @USWNT | @oranjevrouwen https://t.co/3nyaIOqzLQ" / Twitter
Big fan of Bloodworth, but that error was big in letting France back into the match. Despite all that control, I don't think France really created all that much. Well, the US didn't really look like scoring at all in the second half until van der Gragt's challenge. I'm not going to blame Wiegman for not predicting her center back would attempt a challenge like that.
For what ever reason, Bloodworth has been playing with her maiden name, Jansen, currently at Wolfsburg. If she starts using that with the Dutch NT it would mean 2 or possibly 3 Jansen’s on the same squad? WOB’s been playing a 3-back with Jansen to the left side, though that’s more cuz almost everybody’s been bunkering vs them in the Bundesliga. Look for WOB to be a stronger team in the upcoming CL if their allowed to use their new signees; Bremer, Hendrich & Oberdorf. This will give them a starting lineup of at least 5 German starting NT’s plus Jansen, Harder, Pajor & retired NT, Gossling. in the vid, Wiegman admits to switching from the previous so successful 4-3-3. I thought it was an mistake to turn Miedema into an #10, when they needed her to be the foremost striker. Shouldn’t of started Martens with an broken toe/why not later vs an tiring US defense? 2-0 scoreline without going into o.t., vs Wiegman’s more defensive stance was a strong showing for the US
new star is born?(scored first goal in the video)....Katia Snoeijs so far Wiegman's only given her one cap/18 minutes playing time & that was against group Euro qualifier/ last place Turkey, yet she's 23 years old(Miedema's age)
A first in the world. We now have a female player in a males competition first team. https://www.trouw.nl/sport/ellen-19...en~bbd93e98e/?referer=https://www.google.com/ Primeur Ellen (19) uit Slappeterp zorgt voor doorbraak voetballende vrouwen Ellen Fokkema (19) van voetbalvereniging Foarút mag komend seizoen als eerste vrouw in Nederland in een eerste elftal in de mannencompetitie meedoen.Beeld Sjaak Verboom https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/53649795 Netherlands pilot scheme to allow women to play in senior men's team for first time
Let's hope so or it would be embarrassing for the KNVB and female players. IShe must have some talent or she wouldn't have been nominated to play on a men's team--and she has been playing with boys/young men for years, I think.
She's been part of that team and those players long time and promoted with them. That's why the ruling had to be made to give her the right to play. Normally female players have to leave a team that's gonna play at this level. Would be fun if they promote again.
No pressure. But playing with men helps her development when pushing far beyond normal. Especially in terms of speed and physicality.
if she can keep up with the speed and physically after 15/16, and she has the skill, why keep her off the boys' team? she should be gold when next she suits up for the girls/women - altho that might not be what she's aiming at.
An ESPN article I saw says the team is in the 9th tier of Dutch football. At that level, I think a fair number of players in the NWSL and Europe’s top leagues could make up for any physical limitations with their skills on the ball. I have my doubts about her being NT good, but I very well could be wrong.
I know! Bit of a disappointment to hear 9th tier. I didn't know the Dutch--or anybody--had that many pro levels! That does make the announcement quite a bit less noteworthy, to be candid. I too wondered if she was talented enough to merit NT consideration in the near futrue--but that probably isn't the case or I think she'd be skipping the 9th-tier men's league in favor of the 1st tier women's league.
"Fokkema, who has also represented the Dutch national team at junior women's level, has even turned down a professional contract from women's top flight outfit SC Heerenveen, preferring to focus on her training to become a nurse." https://www.dw.com/en/ellen-fokkema...-asks-questions-of-german-football/a-54491890
So she turns down the top tier women's club contract, but still plays for the men's side at tier 9. This just a hobby for her then?
The BBC article says : The KNVB has given permission for one woman - 19-year-old Elle Fokkema - to join fourth-tier VV Foarut for the 2020-21 season. And if you look at their website it is the case https://www.foarut.nl/209/124/competitie/
Well, I guess apologies for citing incorrect information. Couldn't figure out VV Foarut's division in Dutch football; so, I decided to trust the one ESPN article I read that said 9th tier. Edit: Forgot to check out the original linked article in this thread. Apologies again.
Actually pure amateurs are almost non existent, as most clubs one way or another via sponsors pay their players.
