I still love Fulham. Really happy for them and Ream. Hope I get back to London to see them live again before their next drop. They need to buy a few more Amis. Hope they go for Yedlin.
4200 minutes in a season is remarkable, especially when so many of our guys struggle to finish 90 minutes in one go
Uncapped at last ... https://www.starsandstripesfc.com/2...-fulham-are-headed-back-to-the-premier-league "In the end Fulham would prevail with US Men’s National Team defender Tim Ream going the full 90 plus 30 minutes of extra-time. Ream led the team with 111 passes and chipped in with two interceptions, three clearances, and one block."
So proud of Tim Ream. So cool seeing an American play in such an important match. He's been silently doing his damn thing in England for years now. He consistently goes above and beyond for his squad. Real glue guy. I look forward to seeing him in the EPL again! He's been consistent for years, which is fantastic for Yank players who will one day follow in his foot steps. Thanks Tim!
How is one suppose to read those stats? Are defenders not judged on percentage of successful passing or something like that?
So now it's not enough to make a lot of passes, you need to complete a lot of passes, too? Serious question: Did anyone here see Ream's late-game 'pass to no one' (in the deep left corner) and not understand what he was trying to accomplish?
Right now we’re at a period in time where the American fan base is obsessed with teenagers - or at least those under the legal drinking age in the USA. Whatever, I get it, sort of. They’re the future. But so much of that is getting excited for “accomplishments” that, on their own, are meaningless (like scoring two goals in a random U-19 Bundesliga game). Sometimes I think American fans should stop and smell the roses a bit and take in an actual accomplishment. Earning promotion out of the Championship is a hard, hard thing to do. Playing in the Championship promotional final is an enormous stage to step foot in. The pressure is through the roof. To win it twice is rather remarkable. Ream’s career - including his consistency, leadership, durability, and his ability to help his teams win in a tough league (I once heard someone describe the Championship as “the footballing equivalent of the Battle of Stalingrad”) - is very, very underrated
If Ream had this type of career while playing for like...Braga or Feyenoord, he'd be lauded constantly. But because he did it primarily in the Championship, he's viewed (fairly or not) as a minor-league player.
The American Sisyphus has been the best YA in the Championship this season without a doubt. It must be a bittersweet moment, knowing chances are he'll get benched in the Premiership and someone else bought to take his place.
Hopefully has a built-in raise clause in case of promotion in his contract. The satisfaction of such a long, grueling success is probably front and center in his mind and for a guy who's 32/33 and can be relied on for leadership, it's certainly a nice place to be. And a year of winning will make a year of losing much easier to take
Given how often Ream's team has gotten promoted, and how much promotion is worth, I'd like to see Blackburn offer Fulham $20M for him. In all seriousness, a player like Ream, who has shown he's a great Championship level center back, is more valuable than a hell of alot of players who are at the top level. I know your first thought probably is, well, if those players dropped down a level they'd be great too. But it's a whole different animal. There's no guarantee they'd be able to adapt.
there are a bunch of "vets" right now that have been passed over basically who are just as good or maybe better than the youngsters right now...(meanwhile somehow MB90 is still in the picture somehow) ....i think it comes from the GB and the staff...they are overly obsessed with youth at the moment (not advocating for Ream in USMNT, though)
Ream deserves a lot of respect for his career in England. I think he is a great player that has earned his success. However, there is definitely an element of his success that is due to his situation. Miazga and maybe CCV and Aaron Long put in the same situation might have the same success. Ream is definitely lucky he is at a club like Fulham.
Miazga and CCV have time to find the right situation, if that's all that's holding them back. Interestingly, Fulham tried to purchase Matt Besler not too long before they brought in Ream, and Besler said he came very close to joining them. Since they're both similarly aged left footed center-backs, it's quite possible Besler could have had been in a very similar position and had a very similar career as Ream if he had accepted that offer.
I expect Ream to get one or two (if they stay up) seasons of EPL football, then become one of St. Louis MLS’s first signings. I’d bet anything on it happening. If there’s one thing people from STL love, it’s other people from STL.
Miazga still has his EU passport which can find him work and 2 appearances in the PL for Chelsea which helps.
