Brendan aaronsons movement and feints are REALLY good. Hes taken the next step this year.

Philly should get $6m for him. He can play in the bundesliga next season.

Hannes Wolf would be Aaronson's biggest competition and he is really good last and he also played for Rose at Salzburg too. Also, there's Embolo who played in that spot some last year but he'll probably move more to striker depth.

I can say that [the interested European clubs] are not just in one league," Union manager Jim Curtin said. "Multiple leagues and multiple clubs in each league. Now you have real competition for a player and that just speaks to the player that Brenden has become.” good read

maybe the sooner rather than later got me unrealistically hyped for something soon, but this seems like its gone a bit cool? hoped he might arrive with a chance to acclimate preseason even if the windows are open later. thought now that this is more likely in winter or just he shows up midseason?

Yeah, it feels like a winter move makes more sense now. The Euro seasons are already starting, and MLS seems like it's going to be able to finish out something of a regular season and playoffs.

I do wonder too, though, if some of the hype was generated by Philly trying to increase his value as opposed to there be real, substantive offers.

i wondered about that too. hopefully its real and we dont have the union becoming the new skc of pumping up their players for transfers that never come.

Transfermarkt were reporting the rumors. It wasn't coming from Philly AFAIK.

We should want young MLS players who are on contending clubs to finish their seasons before they transfer ala Tyler Adams. See out what they started, get valuable playoff experience, & show their clubs + others around the league why they should invest in youth so they're copycatted.

You can win AND sell players for a profit. Can't do the first if you move prospects as soon as they show a pulse. Teams can't operate just to satisfy YA.

The ideal situation for Aaronson IMO would be to compete for a MLS Cup Title and head to Europe in the Winter Window. Dude is just starting to get on the score sheet on a more consistent basis. I want to see if he can help will/play his team to a championship. You don't want him leaving now and possibly sitting on a bench somewhere rather than featuring for the Union in the MLS Playoffs. If he does well it will only raise his stock further.

Somewhat of an underwhelming move but getting him into the Red Bull system is nice

Just like the Danish Superliga... I am not all that familiar with the Austrian BDL and how it's level compares to the MLS. Football League Rankings has the MLS at 21 and Austria at 14. I am not sure about the source... but if it is legit then it is a decent jump in competition and he would still be a part of a team that is in the hunt for a title... err... probably more likely to win a title. But would he be a centerpiece like he is with the Union? Not nearly as assured. At any rate... Chambers... you are correct in that if he succeeds with Salzburg he would have an immediate in with RBL.

I don't claim to know anything about the Austrian Bundesliga, but I think maybe we should start to see Salzburg as an individual club more at the level of teams like Ajax or Benfica, strong individual teams in weak overall leagues who regularly develop players and sell them to the big teams. 538 has Salzburg ranked as the 14th best team in the world, which seems too high, but they have pretty consistently done well in Europe in the past several years and have cranked out lots of talented players.

Seems like a move that would have been exciting before his trajectory got bumped up these last few months. Either way, it would be exciting if he finds his way to Leipzig in the next 18-24 months

I think its exciting. Players seem to be able to move along from RBS if they prove themselves. I don’t mind a season or two their for Aaronson.

Yeah, Salzburg seems to be a decent stepping stone club. That said, if he's known enough and good enough, maybe he could aim higher.

Have Salzburg managed to successfully replace Minamino since he left for Liverpool last season? I haven't seen a lot of Minamino, but I'm thinking Aaronson would be brought in to play a similar role.

Salzburg in just the last year have sold Haaland, Minamino, and Hwang Hee Chan to top clubs in the world. Success there will catapult him to a big club. I like the potential move. He can also work on getting Bryan Okoh to switch to the US

man we really have gotten spoiled if we are complaining about him moving to a Champions League club like RB Salzburg. I get the idea about the strength of MLS vs the Austrian Bundesliga, but let's be realistic--> the Austrian Bundesliga is a better pathway to bigger things for him than MLS is...

    And what is RB Salzburg?

It's a Champions League club that is managed by an American with ample experience in the MLS. That means a likely better integration than many other club situations our guys have faced when leaping across the pond.

It's a club that does not hold on to it's young talent, but nurtures it and sells it when it's time for them to go.

It's one of the more heavily scouted clubs at the moment relative to its reputation.

Yeah sign me up. I'm down for this if it's real.

Let me rephrase compared to some of the links going into the Bundesliga this seems somewhat underwhelming, but its a good stepping stone. Like I said getting into the Red Bull program is pretty good for him.

A move to Red Bull Salzburg is gaining steam...

There is a possibility (a possibility) he is loaned back to Philly for the remainder of the season.

    NOTHING is set yet

Well, at least we have a new working thread title:

The American Havertz: Brenden Aaronson at RB Salzburg (with a possibility {a possibility} he is loaned back to Philly for the remainder of the season)
