Interesting discussion on the voting to form the DHS. One guy Republican Paul Rosenzweig (Dep. assist for policy DHS)
Was for it at the time.

Senator Feingold opposed it on the grounds that it could become a national police force at the beck and call of the president to exercise internal police authority.

Rosenzweig, at the time said he didn’t give credence to this and it shouldn’t stand in the way.

“Now in hindsight after watching what happened in Portland people like me who poo pooed Feingold owe him an apology.”

    Both condemned Bill Barr’s actions.
I copied this as they were talking but it’s essentially right.

a lot more of course in Christians Amanpour’s show.

Trump wants to move the election up.

    That's it, that's the joke.

Swan knows exactly what he’s doing and plays trump well.

    What Books?
President Donald Trump left a reporter baffled recently when he told him about unspecified medical “manuals” that advise against excessive testing for the novel coronavirus.

In a set of brief preview clips of an upcoming interview set to air on HBO Sunday, Trump can be seen telling Axiosreporter Jonathan Swan about the perils of mass testing for the disease.

“You know, there are those that say you can test too much, you do know that,” the president told Swan, who had a look of bewilderment on his face.

    “Who says that?” Swan asks.

“Well, just read the manuals,” the president replies.

    “Manuals?” Swan asks. “What manuals?”

“Read the books,” Trump insists. “Read the books!”

“What books?” an increasingly incredulous Swan asks.

    another crack ....

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/31/politics/senate-mcconnell-trump-firewall/index.html
Sen. Mitch McConnell is allowing Republican Senate candidates to do whatever it takes to salvage their campaigns ahead of what Republicans increasingly fear could be a devastating election for their party.

In recent weeks, the Senate majority leader has become so concerned over Republicans losing control of the Senate that he has signaled to vulnerable GOP senators in tough races that they could distance themselves from the President if they feel it is necessary, according to multiple senior Republicans including a source close to McConnell.

If only there was something Republican senators had the ability to pass some sort of stimulus to help their states and constituency...

Alexander Vindman Oped in the WaPo today, his first retirement day. This guy will not fade away quietly and I predict he will join the next administration or run for office one day. Respect!

As I keep writing, the Trump administration continues to expose the honor of so many Americans who spend their lives working for the federal government. The Republitarians campaign against them constantly, which is to their shame. These people are as valuable and decent as any in private enterprise.

That's part of the problem though. The Republitarians, as you call them, fail to see them as people in the first place. These chuckleheads have gone off the deep end for so long and so completely, that they hardly respect any government employee, whether they don a military uniform, a postal employee outfit, or a well-dressed man or woman at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Toward the end of my working career in a local government office, I sensed the public was getting a little more testy with me and my co-workers each passing year. Given that I worked in the court system, I was aware that there were very few instances for people to leave the courthouse in a happy mood. I took it upon myself to try and make things more palpable for people that may have been experiencing the court system for the first time, knowing full well that even if it wasn't the first rodeo for some defendants, there were nuanced differences in each county and how the courts ran their proceedings. Given the negative feelings people had (and still have) toward government, I thought it was incumbent on everyone I worked with to try and make the experience as drama-free as possible for customers, to at least try to give the place where we worked, a good name. I said this out loud at a staff meeting one day, and I think it landed with a thud. I worked for 4 bosses in that office, you know, the ones who make the most money and do the least amount of work...but not one of them ever said my approach would have made for good policy. I still felt good about saying it, even if my words went unheeded by some.

I haven't found any difference in customer service attitude between public and private employees, nor any difference in integrity between relatives/friends who work in the one sector vs. the other. For me, such attacks are both false and immoral, the latter because they encourage anger and divide society.

I also say the same about Wall Street, which means that neither the right or the left has much use for me.

I had a unique experience in Germany in 1989. We were up north, near Lubeck, at a place called the Ratzeberger See. One day we went through an EAst GErman Grenz-crossing with barbed wire, towers, raked sand, the whole thing. After an afternoon of driving on roads with linden trees pushing up the pavement we needed to get back. A local lead us to a cattle guard in a farmers field line. We crossed it and were back in West Germany. There was NO border indication save a panel of the cattle guard being painted white. The guide explained it as a nod and a wink smugglers crossing which had been unguarded for years. The East wanted a small quantity of what passed over and didnt block it. We were amazed.

Somebody should have told all those poor kids (they were mostly youngsters) who got shot down over the years trying to scale the Berlin Wall.

Same here... but I recently spent hours on the phone with Verizon trying to get an explanation for a $500 monthly bill for wifi. That experience vaulted the public sector far, far into the lead.

In my experience, the best customer-service experiences in the private sector (Trader Joe's, Amazon) beat anything in the public sector, but the worse are much worse. I have had much better experiences with the DMV and IRS than I have had when calling most technology companies.

I don't use TikTok and not sure how wide spread this story is but the kids seem to be messing a lot with the Trump campaign.

Yup. Don’t kid yourself about why TikTok is getting shutdown... It’s because they ruined Tulsa for him and made him look like a fool. Not a coincidence that is when you started hearing about it being shutdown around then.. It’s also become a meme to take clips or transcripts of Trump speeches and mock Trump with them..

it cannot unless you copy the Great Firewall of China.

only thing would be to revoke a licence or something (??) but I don't know if that makes sense either.

this is just more crap from President Batshit, to deflect from the real harm he's doing behind the scenes.
