WatchESPN is just the old name of the app that carried ESPN content (now just known as ESPN). ESPN3 is an online network that you have access to if your TV provider OR internet provider provide it. WatchESPN and ESPN3 were not synonymous. It used to be that Time Warner didn’t provide you access to ESPN 3 if you were an internet only customer. A few years ago you could only authenticate ESPN3 only through your ISP but then it became part of the carriage deal with TV providers as well.
I was just watching the MLS is back tournament on ESPN and after the game there was a commercial/promo for Mexican soccer on the Univision family of Networks starting July 24. That is the first time I have ever seen something like that.
So my info was a bit obsolete, but no big deal. I do remember giving people hookups to the ESPN3 site. They'd log in via my wifi and then be good at their own houses. I remember Time Warner being one of the last holdouts, but they were the first with WatchESPN.
Can someone confirm 100% that the FA Cup Final this weekend will ONLY be available via ESPN+ streaming? It won't be on regular ESPN TV? If so, what sense does it make to air one or both of the semifinals on TV but not the final?
Saturday 1 August on ESPN: 12:30 - NBA Countdown 1:00 - NBA Courtside 1:15 - NBA: Heat vs Nuggets Saturday 1 August on ESPN2: 11:30 - FA Cup Highlights 12:00 - Bassmaster Elite Series So they could replace it with the FA Cup final if they wish.
ESPN2 would seem to be a good fit. They're going to do all they can to have their NBA stuff start on time. Oddly enough, there's FA Cup highlights scheduled for ESPN2 at 11:30.
Or you can just pay the $5 for a full month of ESPN+ content inclusive of the FA Cup Final... It's all ifs and buts until you end up in the UK wishing you had half as much live TV access to the FA Cup as you did in the US.
There's a pregame of sorts at 11:30am ET on ESPN2. It's a long cry from when Setanta had it, but it's also better in a way.
Even though ESPN channels haven’t been added to Fubo yet, You can log into the ESPN app now with a Fubo account and watch from there.
Trying to catch ESPN's pre-match coverage of FA Cup Final, I'm having to: 1. 11:30 Tune in ESPN FC on Espn2 TV Channel 2. 11:55 Switch TV Input to Roku, then re-activate my ESPN+ creds (because they don't last very long) 3. 12:00 Find & start the FACF Countdown show 4. 12:20 Start the FACF Match Coverage show (I assume) Assuming that my WiFi Internet holds up, and the stream is solid (Kay Murray just had to apologize when Shaka Hislop interview just froze midstream), and I'm praying that there's not too much lag. But certainly things were a whole log simpler, easier and more solid when we could just turn on a single TV channel and that was all it took. Apologies to al the cord-cutters who feel that the above is just the "cost of doing business" and we should all just embrace it.
p.s. Kay Murray's on ESPN now! I had no idea. But glad to see her. She was one of the very few bright spots with BeIN Sports football coverage. Hope to see her pop up more in future.
I mentioned around here that she was on ESPN doing pre/halftime/post match for some cup match between America and and Atlanta United months ago. Glad to hear from you that she is getting more broadcast time..
Post-facto on ESPN+'s streaming of the FA Cup Final. The video stream was generally very good, not too surprising since ESPN seems to have the best streaming technology in the business. The choppy audio got better after the first 15-20 mins. So no real complaints with streaming the match, other than the extra effort described above. But while I was watching the post-game show, it crapped several times and Roku threw up this nice little error: "Status: -28. Reason: Operation timed out after 30002 milliseconds with 0 out of 0 bytes received" Who knows what caused that... could be a bottleneck on my home WiFi... but it's the kind of thing that you get occasionally while streaming that just doesn't happen on cable TV. My final thought is how normally I'd record to my DVR big matches like this for posterity, and the ability to rewatch in future without having to pay again in future. It'd be really customer-friendly if ESPN would offer a replay of this match on one of their several TV channels, maybe late some night. FOX used to do this all the time when they had rights to the EPL and FA Cup. I don't expect ESPN to do this, but couldn't they??? p.s. I'm not going to say anything about the result of this match, so as not to spoil it for anyone.
