9 goals on 8.3 xg might technically be outperforming but i’d be hard pressed to characterize it as anything beyond his production being in line with expected stats. this isn’t like a mason greenwood situation where you have ~3x actual as expected goals.

I agree but it’s also reversed from a negative goal to xG ratio from Dortmund days. Along with the other numbers I mentioned, seems to point in one direction... not drastically, no, but somewhat.

That is fair, but I don't think it entirely negates the point that his finishing was not as bad as it was made out to be.

I think the biggest thing is his playing more inside. His movement is more in the middle than it often was at BVB and FL seems to want his players to "see goal, take shot" now obviously that is a bit hyperbolic but Frank did not score all those goals passing up shots.

I do not think it can be understated how heavy a toll being undersized took on him thus far. He had to play in space because he wasn't strong enough to hold off challengers. He does look to have filled out some, and I think it only helps his game get back to the goal scoring prowess that caused him to be noticed in the first place.

Folks forget he earned his place at the big boy table scoring goals for fun. That isn't gone, he is just now getting strong enough to be able to use his whole game.

One would suspect that if he has a good agent, he has a release clause. Probably north of what anyone would want to pay, but he's got one.

20/10 in the EPL is definitely world class. I think he's either going to get 15-20 goals or a double-double with 10-10 being the baseline. Defenses are going to have to decide who they slide to for help.

As for CP's goal scoring ability. All I think we're seeing is his knowledge that he is the man to make things happen and his teammates are starting to get it too. At BVB he was wonder kid from the US but about the 4th option for scoring or setting up scores. His teammates regularly ignored him. His mental game is on right now, maybe for the first time we've ever seen it at the pro level.

I still call them NASL assists to give credit where credit is due. The only more accurate term would be hockey assists.

Its possible, but not nearly as commonplace as it is in Spain who put ridiculous clauses in all star contracts. When there’s good evidence to believe one exists, I’ll agree with you.

I don’t disagree, it may have been overblown somewhat. It’s still a thing I haven’t seen consistently from him, his final ball can be great but it sometimes hasn’t been despite his ability to hit many kinds of passes and shots... but it seems to be coming together for him.

Even for some of those deemed critical of him in this thread, it was more a matter of when, not if as far as I could tell.

Also, it’s worth mentioning it wasn’t just about finishing... he was often a guy getting in dangerous positions but not shooting a lot to show for it, and thus having lower impact despite his dribbling and touches in box. That’s changed, since he’s had almost as many shots at Chelsea as he did in his last 2 seasons in Dortmund combined.

To be blunt, I think he was criticized and discouraged from taking shots while at BVB. Especially when Reus and the other core players were in the lineup. The times he did well was when they were all out, and he was suddenly expected to carry the team at 18, which he even did a in a few key games.

Only to add on, it really remains open as to how injury prone he is in this league.e.g
Was injured the past two games, after
.. five games? He won't have corona recovery time either.

I just got caught up on the thread - couple of thoughts -

Some people shockingly missed a good RickRoll opportunity - it was rather disappointing.

I went to the Chelsea forum half thinking there would be a petition to fire Lamps and hire Pulisic after they named the team after him - but was a little disappointed.

Is it true that they are considering changing the scoring in Qatar to xgoals?

It’s a real shame Pulisic didn’t point at his watch - but not to sound like a broken record, do millennials even know what a watch is? I guess he could have pointed to the pocket where he keeps his phone.

I will put on my tombstone that Clint’s career was derailed as much by dodgy ACLs as it was by partying. #poormansGazza.

I will say that it’s cool seeing Pulisic thoroughly outplaying the much hyped Pepe on the season even if he may trail in xgoal delta.

I would have been ecstatic with a Mahrez ceiling at the start of the season. Now that feels like selling him short - although I’ll take 1a best player on a title winning team. Here’s hoping he can stay healthy.

Millennials use watches for a different purpose: they get their emails and latest Tweets mentioning them in those.

I think Puli has improved as a finisher. He must have been practicing it. Yes, he still fails his share of chances, like everybody does, but now his shots are a lot more dangerous.

As for over/under, I'd hate to make any fixed prediction. It depends greatly on his fitness, and I'm still concerned that he may remain injury-prone. The better he looks, the more savage the tackles coming his way too.

His time at BvB was really, really frustrating to watch. It's as if he was wearing one of those magnetic neck collars from Wild Wild West and any departure from the touch line without the ball at his feet would have cost him his head.

He doesn’t look like he is about to Duece face any Jamaicans or tear up a ref’s notepad but when he came on second half he was on a mission.
He basically willed the game back to life and was serving up passes in front of goal that a brick wall would have been able to score.

    Dudes got so determination.

That's why we shall call him "Double Deuce."

He's like Deuce, but modernized and empowered. Same grit and determination. More goals, more assists, more pace, more dribbling. Better, stronger (not really), faster.. (cue six million dollar man music).

He's clearly improved his finishing. Neither of his last two goals were in his toolbox last year.

I'm pretty sure has 2 very like those in earlier instances. Certainly a left-footed shot upper left corner from a similar angle. Also, he has done a spin and shoot for the U.S., though certainly not against this level of competition. But the tool was there...

It's not the spin and turn that's hard, it's where he placed it.

The other shot, I don't remember him ever doing that, not off the move he did, with that little separation.

Pulisic's big weakness has always been his finishing. It's been vastly improved this year and more specifically recently.
