It’s been 30 years since Benfica last reached the champions league final , and even longer since they last win the competition.

the fact that benfica is hiring Jorge Jesus is encouraging. Also, there remains plenty of strong youth talent in the system. I also believe the corona virus pandemic will deter some of the big teams from overspending. Barcelona is also experiencing financial issues.

I predict benfica will win the champions league by season 2021/22 with Jorge Jesus as manager. This will also be the year that Portugal wins the World Cup in Qatar on 18 December 2022.

    Thoughts ?

Benfica have 3 stars one in each area of the pitch CB Ruben Dias Midfield Florentino Striker Vinicius, Greatness can be achieved but big changes and financial support need to be achieved. The board have already guaranteed a large transfer budget the fact there will be no International tournaments helps us greatly as Jesus just spent a year in Brazil essentially scouting the country and some areas of the continent we can find high quality players that would normally go for much more than the norm.

In order to make a serious run in the champions league Benfica would have to drop the dead weight/peaked players ex. Andre Almerda, Grimaldo, Weigl, Samaris, Taarbt etcetera the names go on and on perhaps even Pizzi if a suitable replacement at a younger age can be found someone like Rony Lopes.

Smart money moves would involve playing youth players who are good enough and not critical areas of the pitch like fullback playing Nuno Tavares and Tomas Tavares at fullback can help to spend the transfer in critical areas of the pitch that need serious investment like attacking midfield and a partner for Carlos Vinicius.

Would basically require a Bernardo Silva and Joao Felix level players this will never happen. Maybe we can shit out 1 of 2 but not 2. Jesus is close to god but not close enough.

Excellent comment and analysis. I would love to see benfica try to sign Rony Lopes. You are already getting Ruben Semedo by the looks of it.

also Chico Conceicao is a good prospect as is Goncalo Ramos.

jesus will hopefully bring in some top
Players from Brazil. It’s about time benfica ends it’s european title drought !

Yes of course I have youth training credentials but not at your level, I was detained as a young lad and was sentenced to community service as part of my parole I ended up coaching young kids and fell in love with it and continue to help troubled young teens till this day.

Just a slight correction coach I think you are referring to Rodrigo, Chico plays for FC Porto. Chico indeed does look like a promising player Rodrigo on the other hand is already 20 years of age and I don't have high hopes for him.
