Atlanta has looked pretty uninspired under Boer. The players complained bitterly about his overly defensive, rigid style and indeed they often had trouble getting the ball into the attacking third against the better teams. But Martinez was a beast and carried the team offensively, like us with Zlatan. Plus Nagbe at defensive midfielder will make any MLS coach look better. Without those stars Atlanta looked awful in the current tournament. Not saying De Boer isn’t a decent coach - he obviously is - and I would take him in a heartbeat over GBS. But I also understand why Atlanta fans are frustrated and many want him gone.
(Warning: Debbie Downer bitching resumes.) Is there any player on our current roster you have a fondness for? A Franklin or a Dunivant or a Sarvas? Even a Chris Birchall, Michael Stevens or Ema Boateng? The latter were at best average players but each gave his all and wore his passion for the Galaxy like a badge of honor. And because of that I pulled for the success of each and every one of them. The current roster? Any one of them could be traded away and I would feel nothing. Absolutely no nostalgia or loss, just hope their replacement is better. First time in my life I’ve ever felt that way about a team I support. Ugh... (Debbie Downer out.)
I'm still willing to give te Kloese a chance, and by extension his choice of coach. It takes awhile to pull out of the dregs left by Vagenas, and also Klein bears a huge responsibility. GBS is looking pretty awful right now, however, I can't deny that. All of the complaints above, I hear you. It's so depressing following this team now, listening to the likes of Twellman and Holden bag on them endlessly, let's face it, we are bottom of the barrel. Something needs to be done, and it's up to our General Manager or whatever his title is. To answer skydog's question - there is no player that I have a connection with like we did the stars and role players of years past. It takes years and success to make that connection, and we haven't had either with this group. Then the coach gets up and says the problem is they're just not trying hard enough. It's depressing. Finally, we let the best coach after Bruce Arena slip through our fingers, and that is Bob Bradley right across the freaking town. I don't know any back story on that, but why should LAFC have hired him over us? Makes no sense to me. We needed to bend over backwards for that guy.
Jonathan Dos Santos Sebastian Lletget Daniel Steres I could grow to like Dunbar, Traore and Araujo as they play more. I adored the video of Dunbar's proud parents. EDIT: And potentially DePuy. Who looked like he cared.
Just wanna say a user on here took my stupid post about wanting Klinnsman after our LAFC loss and somehow found out my reddit user name and used that post to try to mock me on there. I use this forum because a lot of us have been on here for literally years and I still recognize a lot of the names from when I first started over a decade ago. I like having discussion with everyone even when we disagree about stuff because it's nice to get differing opinions. My post was a knee jerk reaction to our loss against LAFC and was me trying to cling onto the past. As a couple posters nicely pointed out to me why that was a bad idea, I came to my senses and that is honestly great. I come here to chat and post opinions which I know sometimes won't always align with everyone. So yea when someone literally copies my post in an attempt to make me look dumb, it really bums me out. We are all on the same side here. I want to see our team get back to being great, but shamelessly using previous posts especially ones where I admitted I was in the wrong to discredit me is awful.
That really sucks, Skevin, I'm sorry. The twitter/reddit corners of the internet can be brutal. What people get from that behavior I don't know.
Who goes to all that time and effort?!?! I'm so sorry. That's horrible. @TrickHog just in case there's something to be done?
Jonathon Dos Santos He clearly loves the team and the city. I wish there was some talent around him so that his time wasn’t a waste.
Skevin— really sorry about that - if the person is a BigSoccer member let me know. But I have no power or say on Reddit (I personally don’t even have an account there) and these forums are public and anyone can read them and screengrab.
Yea I get it that is why I am not saying the user should be banned nor do I plan to shame them. Just giving people a heads up that this happened to me, so it can happen to anyone else on here. Just strange since my reddit username is not the same as my bigsoccer one, and yet, they still found me. Creepy.
You're right - my frustration made me overstate the case a bit. I forgot about JDS and I freaking love his work ethic. And yes Lletget and Steres have some Galaxy tradition to them, even though neither is playing great. Plus I like Araujo's hustle. So more accurately - this team has few players I care about. Insua, Feltscher Kljestan, Corona, Cuello, Gonzalez, Kitchen, Bingham, Zubak, Pavon, Chicharito -- most I would cheer getting rid of, the others just meh. Pavon is good but his selfishness with the ball bothers me.
If I didn't have to worry about contracts, etc, and I was GM, I would keep: JDS Lletget Dunbar Wild Alvarez Depuy Araujo (i.e. 2 vets and then all the young, cheap talent that show promise) Then I would sign 2 new DPs (forward and attacking mid) and 3 new TAM players (winger, D-Mid, Goalkeeper) and then try to find upgrades everywhere else. Actually, first I would hire a new coach. Maybe try to steal Greg Vanney from TFC. Then all the rest with his input. I know that's not realistic but that is what GM T. Hog would do.
I would get rid of Lletget too, he is no leader, and his footballer's abilities are below top MLS team levels. And no, we don't need him as a sub at 300k.
Unfortunately, Seb was out of contract and resigned as a TAM player making over $530k. I assume that he is under contract until the end of 2022.
Perhaps, but wouldn't you say De Boer still had a much better team at his disposal than GBS and achieved even less? We also lost our star striker and CM but unlike Atlanta, we're a lot poorer at a lot of the remaining positions, particularly in midfield and defense. At least one starter from each of our games was a G2 player. Could De Boer or another coach have done better with the team at GBS' disposal?
I doubt that we can improve significantly with the roster we currently have. We are weak in ALL positions - President, GM, head coach, defense, midfield, offense, goalkeeping.

It strikes me that Atlanta did what ambitious clubs do. I am afraid that we are a shadow of the "Super Club" that we once were, and will be content to rest on our laurels. I had such high hopes for DTK.....
What I find crazy is that we don't even pretend to build a 'team'. There's no thought about what we need or what style we will play or even who will fit where. It's just, "oh, this guy is available, let's sign him." Until we have a credible defence, nothing else matters, so start at the back and build forward (revolutionary thought, I know).
