In truth, I’ve lost some respect for the FO on this one. They should have just named the club Charlotte FC from the start. This just feels like a hallow announcement. Big disappointment.
Maybe we can change Tepper's mind before 2022... Also - My in-laws have mentioned in about a year or so they will be moving to Maine in a year or so. There goes the chances for me to catch a game or two whenever i'm in town.

I doubt they’ll go back now. They should have listened to the fan base from the start. Which, from my observation, most fans were saying anything but Charlotte FC.
People were going to complain either way. I agree a lot of the buildup may have been unnecessary, but perhaps in wake of the pandemic they had to alter their initial plans for a brand reveal and they were simply still working to generate excitement. I like going with a simple name and let the team identity come organically.
And see, I observed the exact opposite. Amongst my friend group, we all agreed Charlotte FC was the best name they could go with.
There really is no point in branding at all anyways if the logic is to just go with no name. They announced expansion in December, and created all this hype, for what? No name? Oh, that’s great. If the intent was to be boring and unoriginal, just start with that. And, what I observe is that there is a small pocket that clamors for this no name style, but it certainly is not the majority.
Charlotte Crown FC was awesome. Charlotte Athletic FC was safe. Charlotte FC is pandering only to that small niche market. I’m still undecided on my loyalties... I live between both Charlotte and Atlanta. I’ve been proud to be an Atlanta fan, but there was room to turn me. This didn’t do that.
Also - if you are going to go with the monarchy angle, I think it's criminal not to have the crown on top of the crest. It's a legit theme and an opportunity missed. Tepper would have had a unique (for MLS) but very traditional (seen across the world) type of crest. Instead he's gone with something I could knock up in 30 mins.
So much hype and speculation and teases only to go with no name at all and the Panther colors. Charlotte FC fans need to ready themselves for this to the first of many disappointments this FO is going to will onto their fans. St. Louis needs to take notice of the disappointment of the fanbase and not make the same mistake.
actually I will be disappointed if Saint Louis is anything else but SLFC unless they go back into their distant past and become the Stars again.
It’s extremely unoriginal. Only possible thing they might have in their favor is that Atlanta United rebounded with some right moves that won over a lot of unhappy fans with the branding. Although, I’m still not a fan of another United in the league. Nonetheless, I’m worried for Charlotte. They pretty much pigeonholed themselves. They’ve alienated the rest of North Carolina, all of South Carolina, and the fans of pro-American style naming, in order to satisfy the most niche of the fan market. Very lazy, clumsy, unoriginal, and foreboding.
I agree the name is fine, it's all about Charlotte. The crest though, unoriginal. Charlotte is now the 6th team with the coin/token crest, 7th if you count Chicago. Glad the Timbers changed theirs when they entered MLS. Oh well, good luck guys
Well, since there is no name, I guess it’s time to start considering possible nicknames... Crown Mints Monarchs Spiders Blues Queens Royals ???
What "disappointment of the fanbase" are you referring to? As a Charlotte resident, I'm yet to talk to a single person that plans on following the team that just absolutely despises the brand/name. Of course there were differing opinions, but it's not like anyone hates the name and brand to the extent that they are no longer excited to support the team. Anytime a team releases a new logo, uniforms, etc these days the response amongst social media is almost always negative. Literally the only time I can recently think when a team rebrand was met with widespread vocal approval was these recent LA Chargers uniforms. You have to remember that the people who openly criticize this logo and team name are very much a vocal minority. At the end of the day, they could have chosen any name, any colors, any logo etc and I'd be no less excited to support the team.
I understand your sentiment. Again, let me bore y’all with the fact that I have a hard choice between Atlanta and Charlotte, given that I live in Greenville, SC, I’m from Georgia, most of my family live in the Carolinas (none live in Georgia now), historically I have rooted for Georgia teams first and Carolina teams second, yet I prefer Charlotte over Atlanta as a destination. In other words, I fit in that fan base that’s splitting hairs between who should I support. I get that Charlotte residents are going to be all in. And while Charlotte residents should be the bulk of the fan base, it’s a little short sighted to say, Charlotte fans are the ONLY ones who matter. That said, I’ll say, I pitched my support for Charlotte as my number one team or my number two team, initially on the branding. Honestly, I hate the name Atlanta United, but I guess, it still has a name. I’ve always said, Atlanta United is the worst name they could have picked except for Atlanta FC. Now, look at what Charlotte did... they picked the absolutely worst branding choice possible. Sure, it’s just a name. And sure, the fans will get over it. Hell, Green Bay supports the Packers... so, a name isn’t going to make or break a team anyways. But for now, I have no reason to choose Charlotte over Atlanta. Maybe, in time, they can do so, but it’s going to take them offering something unique, that I like, that Atlanta United doesn’t offer to achieve that. Personally, I was hoping they would buy out the Charlotte Independence, because they have one of the best names and logo in the US. If they had done so, or something somewhat equivalent (Charlotte Crown), I think that would have been enough. But for now, it’s a tight race, and it’s still Atlanta #1, and Charlotte #2. And for what it’s worth, I don’t know a lot of Greenville or other SC residents who have been impressed enough by Charlotte FC to drop Atlanta United.
