The Fire are back and riding an incredible 1 game winning "streak"! Beric and Pineda scored in the victory over Seattle and the team looked okay. (Then I watched the second half of the LAFC match last night and realized LAFC are on a whole different level). With a win, the Fire would almost definitely secure a slot in the 'knockout round.' A loss would be difficult for the Fire to overcome, playing a likely angry Vancouver in the third game. By the way, the Fire are currently in 9th in the Eastern Conference, but with a game in hand. A win sees them into a tie for 3rd or 4th (depending on goal differential). Too early to think about the Playoffs? [Answer: of course it is. It is not likely the season returns, at least not in front of fans. So, the games will be just like the 2019 Fire home games)
Going to be watching the Vancouver Seattle game closely, too. Fire could still be in a good spot with a tie tonight depending on that result. My hope is they get the W and can rest players for the final game. Might sound weird thinking about rest after only two games, but fatigue has already been a factor for most teams and we’ll probably have a short turnaround for the knockout round thanks to the scheduling shift necessitated by the group change.
If we win and Vancouver doesn't, we win the group. With that said, the Vancouver game still counts for the regular season, though I'm in favor of tanking a game for the better of the Redneck Virus Cup
Yeah, I'm up on how the outcomes tonight affect the group standings, absolutely why I'll be watching the second game, too. Not really super concerned about the regular season implications right now since we have no idea what the rest of the season will even look like schedule and playoff-wise. Did they even announce how they'll deal with the two teams that were sent home? Seems like it diminishes the 'MLS is Back games count in the standings' part of this if you have two teams that (blame aside) didn't get to earn those points on the field.
I'm hoping for a win simply because it's my birthday. Of course, my free slice of chocolate cake from Portillo's will help take the sting out of a poor showing/loss.
My guess is the Redneck Virus Cup is the only MLS we see this year. Next season starts late and the regular season results from this season get combined with next season. Then again, nothing from this country surprises me anymore so maybe we'll have fans in the stadiums in December
Happy birthday! Redneck Virus Cup is more creative and somehow even more honest than MLS is Back I've been skeptical myself about what happens to the rest of the season, another reason why I'm not really sweating that aspect of this tournament.
We decided not to go to Soldier Field tonight, as we have a lot to do at the house. Plus, as I thought about it, sitting in my car for 2 1/2 hours in the steamy heat did not sound that much fun. Instead, we will watch on the 65" LG OLED, on the couch, eating cherry pie.
Beric Sapong Stojanovic Gimenez Medran Navarro Frankowski Calvo Pineda Sekulic Kronholm The best line-up the Fire can muster? Perhaps.
Do you have to drive to watch the games at soldier field? My ac is broken and seems a bit stupid anyway but I have some time off coming up and looking for cheap/free shit to do
You have to be in a car. You have to register in advance. You can only leave the car to sit (with a mask) in front of the car.
