Taking a page from the Arsene Wenger book of Post-Match Interviews, I see.

Sooner or later, I hope someone can post a picture from a wider angle of the ball crossing the line. Curious to see where the AR is when the ball actually crosses the line.

Until I see that, I think I will refrain from calling for the AR to drop dead, sacrafice his firstborn and french-kiss the Queen in pennance.

Well I just looked at the Tivo, in Slo-mo, on the one shot where the AR can be seen.

He was even with the last defender when the ball was kicked (not Spector BTW, he was closest to the shooter). The last defender was about half way between the center circle and the arc on top of the box.

When the ball was kicked he ducked his head, took his eye off the play and went into a dead run in the direction of the end line. The AR went out of the picture before the ball got to Carroll but if I had my guess when the ball went in, the AR was around the top of the box, with his head still down.

    No. Va.

You are right. Sorry about that. I guess that I saw SA "skipper" and somehow read it as SA keeper! My dislyxia I guess. If you read my book, you know I can't spell, now you know I can't read either.

There are a couple dozen NHL goal judges looking for work at the moment.

Really didnt get to see too much of Spector...although I'm sure the Carroll incident made anything but that blunder hard to notice....hhaha...

Holy $hit i know i started the thread but had to be somewhere at 4 and just watched my tape.

During the game i was mad cause Man Utd did not really create any chances to score and i also was saying to myself the way defense is playing Carroll is not going to have to make a real save until the milan champions league game then one of the greatest blunders of all time happened. Why would he try to catch it off his chest intead of his hands. The one positive it will move ahead of Timmys mistake last year in the champions league against Porto(which was not even close to the level of fukcing up).

This might give Timmy another chance or this just might remind United that they need to pick up a #1 during the transfer window.

spector i thought played well for the amount of time he was given. He passed a great long ball in the 91st or 92 min that was ruled dead because rio was offside.

Somebody, who looked similar to Spector, played some wicked long
balls out of the back for some "almost" chances for ManU. If it was
    Spector, I was very impressed.

    Sky Sports gave him a 6 & Carroll a 4.

Tottenham's goalie must be man of the match.

didn't do much for United. Did not really add anything, although he put a nice through ball in as I recall, but never did anything to screw us up (of course that's taken relative to Caroll's little moment of delight).

Some action at Blackburn will bring him up nicely, as he's not ready to play for United yet.

Fascinating stuff, but we all know this thread is really about Howard.

    How will it effect him?

First, will this hurt Caroll's status as ManU's #1. He has a half season of solid play interspersed with two complete howlers. He also looked shaky in this game and possibly a few of the preceding games. One could argue that Caroll makes his mistakes and moves on, unlike Howard who seemed to be shaky for entire games. But I will be interested to see how Carroll reacts if given another game -- though he may have the luxury of not even seeing a shot the way ManU's defense plays at times.

Secondly, even if Carroll is out, is Howard the man? I would definitely keep my eye on transfer activity, as I am not sure that SAF has kept faith that Howard can do the job, even if publically says this is the case.

Have to agree, losing faith in the man who replaced someone you lost faith in does not put the first guy back in the side. I'd like to see TH get another shot, but a blunder like this (and both of carrolls have been of the absolute certainty save turned into goals (or should have been counted as a goal in case two)) is more likely to convince the board to spend money.

Spector looked a bit nervous but played a few nice balls out of the back. IT's hard to rate him because the game went so topsy turvy at that point.

With respect to Spector, he certainly appears to have talent. Hopefully his stint at Blackburn will provide him with enough opportunity to play and obtain the experience necessary to challenge for regular playing time.

With respect to Carroll's mistake, it is one of the worst goalkeeping errors I have ever seen, and perhaps the worst at this high a level. His form has been poor for the last month. Howard's form was similar prior to his benching. As an American, I hope Howard gets another shot, as I believe he has more shot stopping ability than Carroll and covers more of the box. The decision to go with carroll really invlved Howard's lack of steadniess, i.e. the one or two mistakes a game Howard was committing. If Carroll is making the same mistakes, there really is no reason to go with Carroll, as Carroll is much less likely to make a game saving save than is Howard.

I don't think MANU will enter the transfer market for a keeper at this time, as I doubt the Board will give Fergie the necessary funds. It seems to me that the time is ripe to give Howard another and probably final shot and claiming the number one shirt for now and the future.

I hope you're right that Fergie will nto get the funds to get into the transfer market for a keeper. If that's the case, it may seem indeed that Howard would get another chance. But I'm afraid that Fergy has lost faith n both keeppers, and would look elsewhere if he could for a keeper, rather than turn back to Howard.

It'll be a new fricking era when they start enforcing the rules that are already written.

I'm almost positive you're not allowed to pull on people's shirts, simulate fouls and that a man even with the last defender is not offside.

When I opened this thread I was praying that Carroll would make some huge mistake and it would cost them 3 pts. Damn, Carroll was bailed out by some amature call. Maybe SAF was seen enough from Carroll. I think it would be kinda funny if Riccardo made the gaffe instead because I could see the English tabliods with this headline: "Retardo Riccardo"!! Seriously, though Carroll has been bailed out many times by the grace of good luck and at some point it will cost Man U points. Timmy lost his starting job because of some gaffes and now its time for carroll to take a seat. I dunno what it is but ever since Peter the great left, ManU's keepers have looked scared and timid. I know those are big shoes to fill but damn come on show us something!
I hope Howard was sick and didn't make the roster because I lokk forward to him being in the first 11.

I can quite honestly say that Carroll's howler lastnight is the stupidest mistake I have ever seen a GK make. Worse than the Massimo Taibi's classic.

It is getting so much coverage. The gaffe is smeared all over the tabloids in huge pictures and diagrams.

I don't think Roy will be in the line up too much longer. Howard should be starting in this weekends FA Cup match against Exeter if he isn't sick or whatever. If he does well there, I think it will be a good reason for SAF to give him a good run in the starting 11.

Unless SAF just decides to go with Ricardo altogether instead.
