Look how he goes to catch the ball, like a 5 year trying to catch a ball for the first time, terrible, I cant imagine another goalie let alone another athlete in the world trying to catch a ball like he does, there are tons of O-lineman in the NFL who look more graceful trying to catch a deflected pass.

It will be interesting to see what SAF does about this. I know it didnt cost them the game, but it was pretty bad. Right after signing an extension, I believe?

No score or scoreline is indicated in the title or the posts. Settle yourself.

What I would like to see is some video of the bench just after that. Of course, I am assuming that young Tim Howard was a sub.

Probably because we're making plenty of comments in the actual game thread.

Understandable from Arsenal fans though, with their rock-solid keeper.

As an assistant referee, I've been in that situation numerous times, but usually when the ball is shot from about thirty or thirty five yards out. You're staying with the second last defender, and you have to haul ass down to the goal line. By the time the ball reaches the goal line, you're are in no position to make a decent call (the angle is terrible) and it's not your fault. In this situation, the ball is shot from midfield. The assistant referee had no chance in hell to get down there to give it a decent look. However, the ball did go far enough into the goal that he should have seen it, no matter how terrible his angle was.

Horrible blunder by Carroll. Howard had a couple of horrible errors, now Carroll's had a couple. I think it's time that Howard got another chance in the league.

With this blunder Carroll has probably no chance to get an extension to his contract, even when he decides to play without getting paid. I got to say that mistakes in games do happen, but why is he trying to catch the ball like that (I am a goalie in five a side, not eleven a side. But there shouldn't be much difference, only that the goalmouth is much smaller). He seems to be able to get a clear look of the path of the ball and I think he should have catched like when you are setting the ball in volleball or tip it over.

Anyway, thanks to assistant referee Ray Lewis for letting us get a point. Hope he doesn't get fired by the FA. :D
