NBC4 is currently re-airing the 2018 Red, White and Boom show. This was the one on which He Who Shall Not Be Named scheduled a friendly match for. 7023 people (according to Wiki) showed up to see a 60-minute match. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Columbus_Crew_SC_season
Los verdes douchetools signed their first ever player. 20 year old Paraguayan winger Rodney Redes https://prismic-io.s3.amazonaws.com...FC+ANNOUNCES+RODNEY+REDES+AS+CLUB+V9+0607.pdf From their press release, he’s scored 12 goals in 80 appearances in his short 2.5 year career. For a fan base clamoring for Messi and Chicharito, along with other Super star names, this signing seems to signify a certain lack of, dare I say (dare! dare!), ambition.
ESPN is saying it's a $ 2.75 Million transfer for Redes: https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-...fcs-first-signing-redes-to-cost-$275m-sources
Let me just say if I was an Austin fan I would be underwhelmed by the first ever signing. Instead of a real name or someone with a real track record they spend enough money that it appears they are trying but not nearly enough to get the quality required. Feels very very familiar.
Their fans are saying he's the next Almiron or Martinez. That it has a very "Atlanta United Feel" to it because no one ever heard of him before now. They are comparing Claudio Reyna and Josh Wolf to Tata. Hilarious.
So why is that the head coach of the Green Weenies didn't see fit to sign his own son to his 1st professional contract? Why on earth would he go to Atlanta and sign with them instead of Austin? Is daddy actually smart in keeping his son away from J. Antnie McDouchnozzle? Further, did Crew brass not value him enough to try to sign him? Why did he leave Crew academy to go to Atlanta to begin with? Is that their actual hometown where he grew up before coming to Columbus? Was their bad blood when Wolfe didn't get job when Berhalter left? And don't me started with how the hell ATL could even claim him as a homegrown when he's been there such a short while.
I've seen this bandied about from a couple of places now, but usually with the emphasis from Reyados that he is not for sale, buuttttttt....... WHAT https://t.co/O5h9grt6FR— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) July 8, 2020 So that is 18-20 million us dollars. We all know Tony McTaintLicker doesn't have the jack like that to spend on players, so I find it interesting that the infusion of minority owners has meant a BIG infusion of cash??? No idea who this cat is, or if he's even good. But my initial thoughts were, "IF he's worth THAT kind of money, wouldn't he be playing in Belgium, Netherlands, etc?" Maybe my impression of world values is wayyyyy off.
He was an absolute fizzle at Spurs. Might be the kind of guy that could light up a second/third tier league, I have no idea how he's doing in Mexico.
I want Austin to fail as much as the next Crew fan, but I think we're going a little overboard in declaring Redes a terrible signing. I mean, I hope you guys are right, but who knows.
1) I don't believe it for one minute. As you suggest, no way Fatboy McGarberblower forks up that kind of cash. And you don't pass the hat around the minority owners for this kind of thing. They invested what they invested. Paying some eurotrash hitters' salary out of pocket would be just short of literally stupid. 2) I thought he was focused on bringing in Mexican superstars. Some Dutch loser isn't going to move the meter with the local Latino community, which he discovered he didn't actually detest after he left Columbus. 3) All that said, I pray this is true. It has disaster written all over it. 4) BTW he just tested positive for Covid, although as you'd expect from a 26 year old professional athlete, he completely asymptomatic.
Former topscorer of the Eredivisie with AZ Alkmaar. Feyenoord wanted him, but we're beggars so can't afford him.
No no. I’ve been told professional athletes are just as susceptible as 39 year old pork belly’s who sit on their couch playing xbox all day. Shame on you Bill for making such an assumption.
It's funny how technology works. You get a message from a user, and you immediately know who that user is from their grammar and the way they use words. You go back to the conversation a few weeks later to look at their profile, and lo and behold, RED CARD. Pretty damn funny if you ask me.
Big news today in ManbunCity: in a pathetic attempt to try and not be completely lapped by The Crew, they've decided to add a "beer hall" to their plans. Fortunately, when drunk TechBoyz throw up their White Claws, the linoleum will clean up nicely. Still, nobody appreciate cutting edge 1990's design like I do, although it looks a lot more like a "beer cafeteria" to me. Love the park benches. And the lovely view of the parking lot.
As if we weren't already living rent free in AP's tiny pea brain... take a look at the TVs in the beer hall renderings.
Indeed it is. That's #Crew96 v #FCCincy in the US Open Cup on the TVs in the rendering. #SavedTheCrew https://t.co/SXaQFRtBql pic.twitter.com/dV0AqatOxo— Eliot McKinley (@etmckinley) July 14, 2020
I'm sure putting that match on the tv monitors in the rendering made our boy Anthony chuckle. That match on the tv really sets the mood in the overly formal, sterile, hospital lobby with picnic tables, aka Austin FC Beer Hall. After all, that debacle of a match for The Crew will go down as the all time high point for FCC and AFC. At that moment Precoit and Don Garble were actively scheming on how they were going to move the Crew to Austin, and how FCC would fill the Ohio MLS void. You can imagine their discussions after FCC got the victory over The Crew. The Crew loses to USL club. FCC fills their stadium on a regular basis($5 tickets), while The Crew has attendance issues(Thanks to AP). More ammo for AP to use to justify his October 2017 surprise. Then Precoit stumbles on this move The Crew initiative. The only thing that ended up moving was AP himself. Now he has to take the gamble and spend $300-$400 million before he has a team, or a first MLS match. FCC gets their spot in MLS, and ends up with multiple manager and player issues, and what appears to be the worst club in MLS history, all while they are dumping $300 million into a new stadium. They're reliving their glory days down in Austin. FCC is starting to see the nightmare they have stumbled into.
I just heard that theres trouble down in TechBoyVille. It seems a substantial number of Austin Anthem Grackles decided that they were tired of putting up with that Josh Douchenozzle and the Hipster 6 and have broken away to start their own SG called Los Verdes. Everybody wants to say that its all very positive and, really, the more groups the better but behind the scenes everybody is pissed at everybody else. The OG's figure it all belongs to them, the Hipster 6 (they actually call themselves that) figure everybody should just do what they're told and the latecomers can't understand why those chumps are in charge. Among other things they say that the songs and chants theyre all supposed to learn really suck ass and theyre working on their own. The new group doesnt even want to sit with the Gracks and are asking about alternative arrangements. Such fun.
Made me smile! Honestly could have predicted this from the beginning. But it is also very common lifecycle of supporters groups (our own included).
Their songs are pretty lame. Most groups just plagiarize other team's songs. I fully expect Austin opening match to feature the team walking out to "You'll never walk alone".
