The 2020 MLS TV thread

ESPN streaming is when you log in with you cable provider. ESPN3 you get through your ISP. ESPN+ is a paid streaming service.

 

Based on the number of cars I saw going up the hill at the beginning of the weekend and coming back down at the end, yeah, a lot of people were away from their TVs.

 

I rally logged the way UDN put in that crowd noise when they were playing on a field with no stands.

MLS on Fox last night averaged 519k.

That might be an understatement because the game didn’t start until 8:45pm. So, in other words, they have the MLS slot starting at 8PM, which was the original scheduled time, but the game didn’t start until 45 minutes later due to rain.

 

This doesn't seem like a number fox would be at all happy with in prime time...

 

Which game ? Because before ATL vs RBNY was NASHVILLE vs ATL . also the game was on TUDN for a higher combine

Worst game ever for that to happen.

 

Competing against more popular soccer teams in USA, CHIVAS, AMERICA, CRUZ AZUL on Univision at the same time.

 

And star attraction Josef Martinez sidelined

To put some of these numbers into context against other soccer matches airing last week:

 

I wish they'd publish streaming numbers.

 

It seems MIB tourney (AKA Covid Cup) opening game has good TV ratings, 492K viewers on ESPN and ESPN Deportes:

On other hand 9am ET kick-off of Phi-NYCFC on July 9 averaged 159K viewers on ESPN

I don't think they are publicly released.

 

Anyone knows or has any evidence that this "people starving for sports" effect does actually exists?

I know NFL draft ratings were a big success. But for instance, are golf, NASCAR, EPL or any sport that is already back having significantly better ratings than they get normally?

The first weeks and months of the pandemic I really thought this would be a big thing but as time goes by I am not that sure.

 

Well soccer ratings were up for early Bundesliga, EPL is kind of up, MLS was up for one game (but it was a bad game). Serie A is not up on ESPN.

Outside of the US, in England EPL has been getting record ratings.

 

Wonder how that compares with their usual 9 am numbers?

 

Also the 52k number was impacted by the
Liga mx games at the same time.

 

Not sure either, up to the mods i guess.
