I saw him save a PK in the game against Koln over the weekend. Then, of course, Dusseldorf blew a 2-0 lead in the last 10 minutes with both Koln goals coming on headers. Neither were the GK's fault, but maybe a more athletic GK keeps out one of them?

he wasn't intended to be the #2, lol, Kastenmeier is supposed to be like 4th GK at the club. Just benefited from Rensing/Wolf being injured for too long and he moved up to #2 and then once Steffen got injured he got his chance to play pro for the 1st time. And hes getting praise so far.

talk about major luck. Steffen got the no.1 shirt back in early August due to a major injuring to Rensing

The Schalke move makes a lot of sense. Man City should give him another year to see if he can stay healthy and play at a high level.

I was trying to find whether this was referring to anything new. Apparently it's a Bild article, which I can't access but it looks like it's summarized here:

    https://www.transfermarkt.de/-bdquo...sh-steffen-amp-co-kandidaten/view/news/361894

Sounds like this is saying that Schalke are not satisfied with Markus Schubert (the sometime replacement this season for the outgoing Alexander Nübel), so discussions with Man City regarding Steffen are heating up again.

Also I believe it says that chances are slim Steffen stays at Dusseldorf; at Man City he'd be the backup to Ederson; and at Schalke he'd be competing with club veteran Ralf Fährmann (currently away on loan) for the #1 position if he went there.

That's pretty much my interpretation too. The games I've seen, Schubert hasn't been great. He's not the root of their problems right now, but he doesn't look like a Bundesliga starter to me. I looked up Fahrmann's situtation, and he was on loan at Norwich the whole season as the back-up at 31-years-old. I've never seen him play, but that doesn't seem like the resume of a Bundesliga starter either.

This is a self-promoting article that is only tangental to Zac even if it were true, so of course, I have to post it here (Utrecht keeper has Man City dreams.)

(basically, he moves to City this summer, expects to play U18s, hopes to play U23 and train with 1st team... and start for them and win the CL some day.)

No surprise here but Dusseldorf bid farewell to Steffen after their relegation and thank him for his service, though it's uncertain where he goes next.

Unfortunately he was injured for the entire second half of the season, and was not able to recover in time to help in their bid for survival.

Kicker ranked him as 11th out of 19 starting goalkeepers in the league this season. His rating was hurt by a number of poor performances in December, although it was later revealed that he was playing through his knee injury for those games.

I hope that's enough to get him a much more solid club for his next loan.

How many games do we think he'll get as MC's #2 keeper?

Well in the past 3 years Bravo got 31 games.

This year: 17 games. 4 league, 10 domestic cup, 2 Champions League, and the shield

2018-19: 1 game (The FA Shield)

2017-18: 13 games. 3 league, 9 domestic cup and 1 Champions League match.

With Man City's European ban (if that's upheld), it'll likely come down to how City do in cups. Unless Ederson picks up an injury of course

thanks! why did the #2 only get 1 game in 18/19? that would be bad for steffen.

    Bravo was injured.

Muric played a few games in the league and FA cup I think.

He blew out his Achilles in August.

The #3 (promoted to #2) that season was 20-year-old Arijanet Muric, who got 5 starts, all in the League Cup.

If Steffen is rated roughly as highly as Bravo, I'd expect to see him in cups, CL group stage matches after advancing is secured (if City's ban is overturned), and in the occasional league match when Ederson is inevitably suspended.

I'd be happy with 17 games obviously, but (especially with the European ban) I worry this will be more like Howard's final year at Man United after they brought in Edwin Van der Sar, when Howard was limited to a handful of starts.
