It's too late to do this, but what about reconfiguring the groups... Old: Orlando, Miami, NYCFC, Philly, Chicago, Nashville Seattle, Vancouver, SJ, Toronto, New England, Montreal, DC Salt Lake, KC, Colorado, Minnesota Atlanta, Cincinnati, Red Bulls, Columbus LAFC, LAG, Houston, Portland New: Orlando, Miami, NYCFC, Philly, Nashville Seattle, Vancouver, SJ, Salt Lake Toronto, New England, Montreal, DC Chicago, KC, Colorado, Minnesota Atlanta, Cincinnati, Red Bulls, Columbus LAFC, LAG, Houston, Portland Move RSL from Group D to Group B Move Chicago from Group A to Group D Realize that if this season gets underway again in actual cities, it's a long shot at best and since you gotta redo the schedule anyway, why not give up on those regional rivalries in a tournament that few people are watching anyway. Plus, wasn't the draw fixed to begin with? 2/3 teams in one group will make the playoffs and since the third team won't play as many games as other third-place teams, it seems they're at a disadvantage. I also think it's crazy that the NHL and NBA want to continue their current season. I saw today that the NHL season will end in October and the 2020-21 season will start in December.
It's a matter of time before Nashville gets removed from the tournament like FCD. The fairest solution would then be to move Chicago over to the West and have them be the fourth team in Group B. Then all groups would be four teams, but you have to redo the schedules for Groups A and B for that which isn't going to happen. The best realistic option is for the three Group B teams to play out Nashville's schedule and then instead of automatically giving the three Group B teams two spots, that second spot goes to either the #2 team in Group B or #3 team in Group A based on standard tiebreakers. But doing nothing will give Seattle a competitive advantage so that's likely what Garber will do.
Tweet from Goff late last night: 1888 MLS players/staff tested, 4 positives all from 2 teams. Doesn't explain whether these are new. Frustrating. Not as frustrating though as the reporter from something called Vival who, in reference to Reyes going down, Tweeted that it was an "I can't breathe moment". They fired him before dawn today.
I will note that while Germany, for one, successfully completed their season, there's still some complaints. Dynamo Dresden is thinking about filing a legal complaint over their relegation, as they had to skip two weeks of the restart due to cases and then their schedule was heavily compressed to get all of the games in, which put them at a disadvantage. I don't think this will go very far, as similar issues have been caused in the past by bad weather. They finished dead last in the 2 BL, however, which is the same place they were when the season was originally stopped (albeit not as far back, points wise).
Good piece highlighting The Crew, TV time and the importance of getting CBus onto national TV https://www.forbes.com/sites/ianqui...-mls-is-back-provides-precious-equal-airtime/
I enjoy a Nani game winning goal more than probably anyone on this board, but in reality that game was as expected a very hard watch and not exactly a great advertisement for the league. Fortunately, the pregame display by the teams and the Black players will likely get more press than the (relatively poor) soccer, and that is only good news for the league. That made me proud to be a supporter of this league.
If anyone wants a mess, some grade-A racist named Drew Pells tweeted something very idiotic last night. 1281044172246564873 is not a valid tweet id He got his MLS media credentials yanked by his organization and continues to double down today. Last night, Julie Stewart-Binks called him out and he took it as a badge of honor, just like he did every other time he gets called out. 1281059882951675904 is not a valid tweet id
I thought there were positives from FC Dallas, Nashville, and Columbus. Maybe he was only referring to this new round of testing?
Nashville is out of the tournament. "Sources" are saying Chicago is moving to group B. Both Chicago and Nashville will still be considered Eastern Conference if/when the season resumes. Reporting with @jeffrueter and @MLSist: Nashville SC is out of the #MLSisBack tournament. More to come on @TheAthleticSCCR— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) July 9, 2020
If anyone wants a viewing party for Saturday, here's some ideas as well as where that Morgan chick will hang out. Bars expect smaller crowds as Columbus Crew fans plan alternatives to watch games https://www.thisweeknews.com/sports...us-crew-fans-plan-alternatives-to-watch-games
1) Per mls website, Crew v Impact on 7/11 is cancelled (sorry if this was previously posted) 2) Twellman taking a real beating online from Dallas players and staff for spreading utterly false stories
The Crew weren't scheduled vs Montreal were we? The other teams in our group are Atlanta, FCKY and Red Bulls.
I saw them play preseason on that field too several years ago (one Higs' early years). Have awesome pic with my son & Josh Williams on sidelines after game. Then my son actually played on that field a few years later against an all star team from Japan's pro academies - 1-0 at half (won't share final score - but we did score and no other team team did against them).
Ah. Gotcha. Its confusing because they list all the Corona Cup games along with the regular schedule, making it hard on the slow and stupid.
Obviously, this is one of those YMMV things, but I'm watching Montreal vs New England now on TUDN and my SAP is in English. This is a good sign for when we play Atlanta.
