Austin's stadium is coming along. St Louis has started building or at least excavating with the notable exception of the parking lot they don't yet own. Charlotte isn't in doubt. But Sacramento has been saying for years they could start building at their old railyard right away. And still haven't started.
They'd never make 2022 if they didn't? Still, I think the Dome is still there as an interim solution.
To land a team the Charlotte City council committed to a whopping $110 million in "hospitality funds" whatever that means, towards the cost of a soccer stadium. Thats looking really ridiculous now. Like Nashville in Nissan, Charlotte will be playing in BoA for a long, long time. I'm not willing to bet much that the Miami Beckhams aren't going to be in Lockhart for the next decade. And now that Enterprise and every other rental car company is basically out of business one wonders how long the Kindle family is going to keep bankrolling the effort in St Louis. Garber says the league will lose a billion dollars this year. At some point the chickens are going to come home to roost.
Part of me wants to point out that Garber is a liar. Part of me wants to think this true so I can laugh at Garber. This calls for bourbon.
Yeah, I'd like to see a breakout of where the billion dollar loss comes from. Maybe they are counting reduced franchise values or something like that? Teams aren't operating with an average loss of $40 mil each.
Six FC Dallas players have tested positive for Covid-19: FC Dallas confirms reporting by multiple outlets that 6 players have tested positive for COVID-19 since arriving in Orlando. https://t.co/sLM2s7ZWTo— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) July 1, 2020
Dallas now has 9 players and a coach who have tested positive for covid. https://www.espn.com/soccer/fc-dall...positive-for-coronavirus-ahead-of-mls-restart
I think its safe to assume that players are going to continue to test positive on a regular basis. This thing isn't going away They'll go into 14 day quarantine, some will feel ill, many won't, they'll get out and life will go on. Its just how things are now. Waiting until there is no chance of catching this thing is not an option, unfortunately. Lockdown/stay at home was never intended as a permanent solution.
#NYCFC CEO Brad Sims on where his team will play home games after #MLSisBack: "Neither the Yankees nor Mets have told us anything definitively. We’re anticipating that’s going to be challenging. We’re engaged with #MLS on alternative places to play."— Glenn Crooks (@GlennCrooks) July 6, 2020 The CEO of NYCFC says they may not be able to play at either baseball stadium (Yankees or Mets) this year.
I'm very glad to see that Miami wasn't able to secure a jersey sponsor, even with 90 extra days. C'mon Becks, call up some of your millionaire friends!
Wait. Do they have Coca-Cola on one sleeve and Standard-Chartered Baptist Health on the other, but no MLS patch? Or am I seeing things?
Private Equity will be allowed to buy into MLS teams. I know they need money, Just wondering what others think. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/11/mls-join-nba-mlb-in-private-equity-financing.html
One of Charlotte's proposed names is Carolina Sliders FC. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...m-reveals-seven-remaining-possible-team-names I can see it now: White Castle Stadium....with porcelain walls.
I had to look it up because it sounds like something you'd find on Urban Dictionary. There is an entry for East Carolina Mud Slider, but apparently a Carolina Slider is also a turtle. Of course they have a few entries that copy English club names, with Charlotte Athletic and Charlotte Town (no love for Charlotte Albion?), but at least they didn't put Charlotte United out there. On a side note, if the rumored Crew rebranding goes through, I say we embrace the English copycat trend. They could become Crewe Flavortonia.
On the money on lockdown/stay at home. Too bad we utterly failed to do the things needed during shutdown to make reopening go well. And we reopened in violation of the guidelines (in a lot of places). Genie is out of the bottle now in a lot of places. Gonna be hard to get him back in. Still, I have enjoyed watching footy again.
Agreed. With all these videos of people claiming they have rights and they refuse to wear masks... there's certainly a recurring theme.
