I know that many labs are seeing delays due the 4th holiday. I'm not sure if MLS is using a central lab or if they control their own testing, but they might be playing catchup on the results.
You asked the same question twice within an hour or so span. Most of us are just as much in the dark as you are.
It sounds like they have been getting tests back in a timely fashion. All of the teams that arrived over the weekend have gotten their teats back and are clean.
I wonder why whomever (or the whomevers) is running that MLS is Back insider account didn't just opt out of the whole tourney. Like, say, NYCFC backup goalkeeper Brad Stuver just did. NYCFC back-up keeper Brad Stuver has opted out of MLS tournament "due to a personal matter." Charlie Lyon, from league pool, will train with the team in Orlando.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) July 8, 2020
MLS is using BioReference Labs services before and inside the bubble. They have at least 2 centers in Orlando, one is right next to the bubble.
Here's the latest OO list then: Players out due to COVID: VAN (5) - Montero, Cavallini, Ricketts, Rose, Mukumbilwa RSL (1) - Onuoha LAFC (1) - Vela LAG (1) - Dos Santos (due to hernia?) MIA (1) - Robinson PHI (1) - Burke (COVID travel restrictions) NYCFC (1) - Brad Stuver ______________________________ Total: 11
Perhaps you could just call this "Players opted out", because "due to COVID" makes it sound like they have COVID.
Ok, here's updated "Out-Of-Office" list: Players out due to COVID-related reasons: VAN (5) - Montero, Cavallini, Ricketts, Rose, Mukumbilwa (OO) RSL (1) - Onuoha (OO) LAFC (1) - Vela (OO) MIA (1) - Robinson (OO) PHI (1) - Burke (COVID travel restrictions) NYCFC (1) - Brad Stuver (OO) ______________________________ Total: 10
I closed the "MLS Suspends the Season due to Coronavirus" thread because, well... the season isn't suspended anymore. I think anything that links Coronavirus and the tournament can go here. That way, we can keep the PBP thread for actual play-by-play.
Source confirms that all four Nashville players who were awaiting follow-up tests have been confirmed as positive for COVID-19. That’s nine total players who have tested positive for the team.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) July 8, 2020 maybe boot Nashville and have a 24 team tourney. Then have Nashville and Dallas play each other twice in a few weeks “for regular season” points? yeah never mind on that second part...
Yes, this is almost certain to happen with a team from group A sliding over into group B to even out the groups
Interesting analysis here, if the assumptions are good once we get to Saturday any positives will likely be a failure of the bubble. https://www.americansocceranalysis.com/home/2020/7/6/piercing-the-mls-is-back-bubble
Got it! I didn't know the background. I was hoping it wasn't something that a marketing exec dreamed up.
So, for our prior talk about how MLS is in a bubble, so even though Florida/Orange County/Orlando is bad the league should be fine, that only works until somebody leaves the bubble. Like, say, being taken off the field on a stretcher and probably taken to a local hospital dealing with a ton of COVID patients who's ICU is likely full or close to it.
It’s not like he is just going to be inserted back into the bubble. If he does actually end up going to the Hospital, he’ll likely end up being isolated for a period of time and not leave until he tests negative.
Well yes, my point wasn't him returning, my point was that what's happening outside the bubble is relevant to MLS being there if they need resources from outside the bubble (like a hospital).
The ICUs may be full, but other than that, hospitals as a whole are largely underused. People are avoiding doctors in general right now.
Isn't like half the league from current Covid hotspots? What if a player gets injured during training in Houston? Or a car accident in LA? Or a fight with relatives in Miami? Or hack their arm off trying to do house projects in Orlando?
Half is a stretch. The ten hottest states, including the two hottest spots in the world per capita, have 5 teams (MIA, ORL, HOU, DAL, NASH).
