Racing seems a bit too obvious to me, but then again it's so obvious I'm not sure if there really was anything better. But yeah, the colors are incredible, plus that crest is dope, right up there with the Thorns IMO.
Louisville has had a long lead-up to get everything in order, and they've got their candidates for head coach down to 4 or 5. And they're also in process of constructing their training facility, which will be for the men's and women's teams: https://equalizersoccer.com/2020/07...l-expansion-team-logo-colors-crest-announced/
Nowhere, at the moment. Hard to start collecting players without a coach. Not that management hasn't scouted a bit already - but the article also mentions that the shortened "season" has made scouting hard.
From the Equalizer article: "Roster building is still down the road a bit, although the window for Racing Louisville FC to claim discovery players opened recently. James O’Connor, executive vice president of development for both Racing Louisville FC and USL Championship club Louisville City FC, is leading the coaching search and is in charge of roster building until a technical staff gets put in place. Estes and O’Connor agreed that the abbreviated NWSL season will make it more challenging to identify players for an expansion draft, but neither were keen on offering many details." Also from the article, tickets are hopefully going to go on sale late summer.
Also they're already selling some merchandise. https://shop.loucity.com/racing-louisville-fc-c18.aspx
By the way, both the colors and the crest vaguely remind of Italian club Fiorentina. Wonder if it's intentional. Neat design, anyway, and a change from the predominance of blue in NWSL shirts.
Highly unlikely. It's a much lighter shade of purple, plus the secondary colors are entirely different. Also, the crests are entirely different shape and layout - are you referring to the fleur-de-lis itself? Because that's used everywhere, including on the city flags for both cities.
Yes, I was basically referring to that and to the general choice of purple as a color (that's why I said "vaguely"). Wasn't aware (or didn't remember) it was in Louisville's city flag (although I of course was aware about Firenze).
The color-commentator from the Utah Royals-OL Reign match just called it "lavender", during hydration break of the game when they were talking about the new expansion team. She's a woman (although I don't remember who she is) so I assume she knows what she's talking about when it's about shades of color.
Haha well it's not a woman thing, that's also what RLFC said about their own colors, and quoted in the EQZ article too: NGL, I am SO READY to see the mint green on kits and merch!
Not quite. Orlando's is a darker purple than lavender but not as dark as midnight violet, and their secondary color is a light blue. So, not the same, and since I'm a female, I guess I can speak with authority on this. In practicality, their primary jerseys might look similar shades of purple from a distance, so thank God, none of Louisville's colors are a shade of blue.
Jeff Kassouf @JeffKassouf 3h @RacingLouFC announces they have over 2,000 deposits for 2021 season tickets. Yes, they are only $50 deposits, but there are current NWSL teams that were targeting 1,000 season tickets for this season.
Racing have tipped their hand at who they might be eyeing in the expansion draft already: Built in the bluegrassShining in the @NWSL pic.twitter.com/B0pfJ08EJR— Racing Louisville FC (@RacingLouFC) July 29, 2020
Rumor has it that Louisville is hiring Christy Holly as coach: According to multiple sources, Racing Louisville FC have hired Christy Holly as head coach, with the announcement/press conference tomorrow at 1 p.m.Holly coached Sky Blue FC in #NWSL, stepping down August 2017, then served as a scout for the #USWNT for the 2019 World Cup.— Meg Linehan (@itsmeglinehan) August 11, 2020 Sigh.
I am not sure, but the "Sigh" @lil_one has put at the end of her post looks quite revealing about her opinion...
Looked up about him. He helps scout some talent, but didn't do a good job with Skyblue FC which has been on a downturned. Not sure if its his fault or not. But heard there was some tensions with him and the players. Sure don't want the new expansion team going down hill on its first year.
Yeah, I would love to see some new coaches entering NWSL, instead of people continuing to dip into the existing NWSL coaching pool of white guys with foreign accents and, in the cases of the guys not currently in coaching positions, losing records. Hopefully Racing rethinks this, though not likely... Hopefully LA is more ambitious. NWSL is established enough that I'm honestly expecting expansion teams to start luring away NCAA coaches or at least people with good WoSo records.
Is their an unwritten rule that every NWSL coach got to be from the UK? It’s not like they’ve set the World Cup ablaze with success; it took their men’s team(England) over 50 years to make the semi finals again/their ladies squad coaches seems to always beset by controversy. it’s not like US don’t seem to know a thing or two about winning. My one own answer could is that Americans are only used to coaching the unlimited subs game
