It was the league's decision, not the team's.

Austin FC, which was announced back in January 2019 and made significant progress before the onset of the pandemic, will remain on schedule for a 2021 launch. The other three clubs, all announced in the second half of 2019, will each have their expansion seasons rescheduled by one year. The updated schedule follows below:

    • Austin FC: 2021 inaugural season
    • Charlotte: 2022 inaugural season
    • St. Louis: 2023 inaugural season
    • Sacramento: 2023 inaugural season

Toronto's winning goal over Montreal was bogus - a shoulder charge that knocks a defender to the ground, when he doesn't have possession of the ball (or in the vicinity, as the ball hadn't arrived yet)? Goals allowed like that make MLS a laughingstock.

Delamea's mistake vs DC, that glorious own goal scored by SKC for Vancouver on 7/15, and having to remove 2 entire clubs from the league restart make MLS look much more comical than that refereeing error.

Putting player safety above making money should be applauded, not mocked.

I completely agree. This is a sad commentary on this country's inability to contain the virus, and the fact that many Americans refuse to follow the simplest of precautions, as compared to other countries.

Absolutely correct, and I, for one am amazed at how well the league has done with containment so for, since starting in the bubble (I had criticized the idea, and I'm happy to admit I appear to be wrong).

Tough matchup, but if you're going to go anywhere, you have to take on the contenders at some point.

So what's the plan for the rest of the season, now that we've been knocked out at the round of 16?

It seems to me we should still be playing games against other clubs in the same boat, even if they don't "count." We've had a few games and things are still sorting themselves out, and the players need to keep the momentum going.

RBNY loans a 20 year old from Brentford (albeit, he didn't play much there).

The season continues tonight, with Dallas hosting Nashville (the 2 teams removed from MiB), in the first of three "make-up" matches. They play again in Dallas on Sunday, and will play in Nashville when the remainder of the schedule is announced.

Not necessarily trying to bring politics into this, but since it does apply in this case ... FCD did allow fans last night. Apparently a few booed when both teams took a knee. They had requested not to play the anthem at that moment, but it was played so they still took a knee. A few FCD players not very happy with their fans. This could get interesting.

According to this, Garber said the anthem will be played if fans are in attendance, but not if there are no fans.

Reggie Cannon says it's "absolutely disgusting" that some fans booed FC Dallas players kneeling during national anthem

There will always be people that think differently than you. There are some that put patriotism ahead of justice. Don't let that keep you from doing what you believe is right.

    Which is... weird.

In fact, the playing of the National Anthem prior to sporting events is a little weird, truth be told.

That's tremendously naive on Cannon's part. By this point, I think every athlete should realize that if you kneel during the National Anthem, there are likely going to be people who are upset with you.

But in the same breath, doing what you believe is right doesn't make you immune from criticism from those who disagree with your message and/or your methods.

Exactly. It doesn't do any good to get upset about it. Accept it, and move on.

If everyone agreed with them, there would be no need to protest in the first place.

No criticism intended, but they don't need to be mutually exclusive. Some would say (me, included) that the pursuit of justice is patriotic.

Accepting or allowing injustice is un-American IMO.
Totally agree, and it wasn't always this way. It was a political movement that inserted it there - and it's only grown since.
