if the MLS does leave, where will a new team in the CPL play?? I believe the minimum # of seats for a stadium is 7 000- certainly, BC Place is far too big and I would be happy to see a facility with natural grass and no T&F space

so what community outside Vancouver would be willing to see that happen, especially with the covid-19 issue crashing the economy ?

and swangard would seem to be undoable due to its community policy for usage

but I agree that in some ways that a CPL franchise would bring happiness back to the soccer supporters, even if it is semi-pro-- just too much doom, gloom, lies, betrayals and incompetence from the ownership group and the old-guard FO

unless the existing owners try to sell the Club-MLS franchise and keep it in Vancouver- and with no stadium outside of BC Place which is a renter, so its hard to see it being profitable- I would have to agree with Old Fan... the franchise will be moved by around 2023-- money talks, owners/MLS walk across the border

The business case for Whitecaps was not good due to lack of stadium and now has to be significantly worse due to coronavirus. At same time, it is not a good time to sell a sport franchise due to all of the uncertainty. I find it hard to believe that you hire someone for 4 years and then part ways 6 months later without extraordinary circumstances playing a part and that those extraordinary circumstances aren’t most likely the very one’s staring us all in the face. I’m sure Pannes got some sort of buyout and will land on his feet and we won’t hear much from him about “why” due to the typical confidentiality agreement that goes with a buyout. Maybe there is more to it but you have to believe any vision in place at time of Pannes’s hire severely changed over last couple of months. Maybe I am way off.

NO, YOU ARE NOT WAY OFF

the owners, IMO, have decided its time to down-size the franchise and any employee who contradicts their plan will be exited asap- hence, a high-quality sports executive like pannes, who no doubt wanted to succeed and be very competitive, was fired with a compensation package that will cause him to be muted

what he believed he was coming into is much like the false messages- LIES- we supporters have been getting for many years - how a guy like jeff mallet can stomach this is beyond me!! I was hoping he had more integrity than greg kerfoot

I wrote 5-6 years ago of how disgusted I was in the FO puppets and bob lenarduzzi being content with vying for a play-off position and having a home game every 3-4 years- nothing about winning the MLS Cup or the conference - we would always be competing to be at or near the play-off line-- and that was and still is the owners' vision- MEDIOCRITY AT BEST- developing players through the academy in order to sell them was also part of the vision, but NOT ONE has made it to the first team spot- talk about incompetence !!

the message is now coming to be realized by most of the faithful supporters and the stands will be half-filled in the lower bowl for most games and the STs will be at the 6 000- 7 000 range for 2021

ITS PROBABLY GAME-OVER FOR THE WHITECAPS IN MLS - the owners have executed their plan perfectly and will cash-out in a few years

On the positive side, professional soccer will not die in Vancouver. If the KerfootCaps end up in flames, someone else will get going here. We will have something even if we need a couple years off. We may even get the CPL while the KerfootCaps are still playing.

I wish I VHSd all the 86er games on TSN back in the CSL days. It would be fun to have a bunch of games from that era. I know there are a few garbage copies on youtube, but it is minimal at best. Its a lost league in many ways as there is minimal archiving of stats and footage and it mostly lives in our collective memories. The MLS Caps pay minimal attention to that chapter as they went all in on trying to connect them to the 1979 Soccer Bowl caps.

Same with the NASL, there is not a lot of game footage out there. I do have a complete run of Soccer Digest from 1977 - 1984 (minus a couple of missing issues from the 84 year)which is a comprehensive history of the NASL that can not be found any other way, and one day I may make a hobby of digitizing it and putting it online.

after a +40 year relationship with the Whitecaps, i have had all my passion, loyalty and enthusiasm sucked out of me by this inept, callous, lying, disinterested ownership group

some dig at the older FO people, such as anderson, lewis and lenarduzzi, but the truth is and always will be, IT ALL STARTS AT THE TOP

as a passionate and loyal whitecap supporter- and sometimes through some lean years- i have never felt so drained and disconnected from this team

unless the team is sold to different owners by 2021-2022, we all know that we will be continually served the same BS and lies... and professional soccer and MLS will be a distant memory in 3-4 years IMO

Losing the MLS may be the process we have to go through in order to get a professional club we can be proud of again. Sad as it may seem, but after the Pannes fiasco, can't ever take them seriously again (I didnt before, but I figured Pannes was a sign maybe they finally saw some light;' how wrong it was on that).

We have had multiple leagues and team names going back to the Royals. We can most certainly accept that this does not have to be "whitecaps" and "MLS" in order to be a healthy thriving part of Vancouver sports.

^this is just the beginning. It will be hard for players not to be catching it as it is all over Florida right now. More will test positive and I have to wonder if this tournament will even finish. Will depend if a team loses enough of their gameday 18 to have to forfeit.

This will be fascinating to see.

I see that Steve Nash will be bringing his "Hang Tough" mantra to coaching the Brooklyn Nets.

That was interesting. Nash strikes me as a type who would be bored with retirement so good to see him taking a shot at coaching in the NBA.

Terrible minority owner of the Caps, but he has the tools to be a good coach in the NBA. Although he is taking the heat for his skin color and not being an assistant first. Fascinating and sad that we are so muddled down in racial issues every day :(

    https://www.whitecapsfc.com/post/2020/09/10/wfc-new-organizational-alignment

put up your hand if this will cause you to renew your STs and bring you hope and excitement for 2021

bureaucratic BS that they- the owners and FO- think will give substance and reconnect with the lost thousands- when games can be viewed live, it will be a natural social distancing because of the small crowds

even PORKY PIG would be a better hiring and then its... THAT'S ALL FOLKS

Well another "smash and grab" with 3 points to show for it. LOL. In a macabre way it is fun thinking of the players on the other team kicking themselves all the way home saying "How did we lose to that team?" over and over.

Gallows humour aside the fact that our passing is bad, we make repeated turnovers, can't keep possession with a man advantage and let teams back into a game is very problematic.

The second Montreal game was not bad. We passed our way out of the high press repeatedly even before we got the man advantage. While it made my heart skip a beat several times that is what we need to be able to do. Last night was just a reverting to the mean.

Or so they and everyone tells you but in reality 99.999% of the time it is the fault of the kids not listening. It's a teenage hormone thing and challenging authority. Other mammal species have it (elephants and gorillas for example). They get to beat them up and put them in their place. Not advocating violence, just saying it seems to work ;)

You can lead a horse to water but holding its head under will get you in trouble with the animal rights groups. :)

Hitting kids doesnt make them any better or worse as adults.

The "hitting" generation was just as messed up, racist, phobic, oppressive, politically flawed, and war mongering and crime ridden just like today's generation who didnt get strapped and belted by parents and teachers. Humans are flawed by nature. Beating them might make those parents feel better or get a couple of years of compliance, but it doesn't work.

while we appreciate your comments, its easy to see that the 'hitting generation' didnt work with you - in fact, it would have made you even more the way you are

lets keep our focus on the magical mystery tour called Caps Fantasyland- just when you get some hope with 2 wins- regardless of their flaws in those games- they blow smoke up our arse with a 6-0 rout... and it should/could have been double digit figures

Well, they haven't lost a game this year when their opponent has had a player sent off. That's a positive, am I right? Shill and Dolie should spin that into the next pregame build up on TSN.

assinine comment that makes no sense. Piss off. Any of you dorks who think hitting kids in the 40s 50s and 60s made for a better society need to actually do some research.

Dude it was a joke. Chill the hell out. Sheesh, what did you do? Have an extra bowl of bitch flakes in the moring? I grew up in the 60's and 70's and no, corporal punishment (as it was called) doesn't work.

Can we get back to Caps discussions now?

Theres on field dumpster fires and long term ownership dumpsters. I think those are separate.

I have no issue with dumpster fire seasons when there is hope and ambition by the ownership group to turn it around. They are honestly kind of fun to look back on when a team recovers and gets good again. Caps are status quo year after year as far as FO culture, lack of goals, spending, covering things up, etc. They are an eternal dumpster fire.

    now thats a good idea

re: dumpster fire that is called the whitecaps- the long-suffering supporters have decided to piss on their STs and rightfully so-- its going to take a leadership miracle from the owners down to put the fires out
